United Nations Office for Disarmament Affaires /OSCE Scholarship for Peace and Security- Vienna,Austria (Funded)

The OSCE Scholarship for Peace and Security is a joint initiative of OSCE and United Nations Office for Disarmament Affaires at Vienna in partnership with a number of organisations whose work contribute to disarmament, non-proliferation (DNP) and development-related issues.

The initiative offers a training programme providing foundation skills and knowledge on non-proliferation, disarmament and development related issues. In particular, it also focuses on conflict prevention, arms control and confidence and security building measures implemented in accordance with the commitments in the OSCE area.

The programme consists of two components:

Online foundation course lasting 8 weeks on:

  • Weapons of mass destruction
  • Conventional weapons
  • Disarmament and development
  • Gender and disarmament
  • Impact of conflict on neighbouring regions
  • Multilateral security coopearation initiatives

In-depth in-person course lasting one week to be held in Vienna (Austria) with:

  • Workshops
  • Case studies
  • Lectures
  • Visits to Vienna based organisations

The space available for the course is limited, registration is reserved to nationals of OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation.
A total of 70 scholarships are available to facilitate participation of young professional woman and men from OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation. The participation to the in-person training is reserved for women, all genders are encouraged to apply for the online course scholarship.

Requirements:

  • Early career professionals from various fields from OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation. It is not required to have previous knowledge of the issues of disarmament, non-proliferation and development.
  • Age 22-32 at the time of application
    Nationals of OSCE participating States and Partners for Co-operation are eligible Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Armenia, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Holy See, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Thailand, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Tunisia, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States, Uzbekistan
    Qualifications A university degree or equivalent qualifications (which could for example be constituted of a degree obtained with minimum 2 years of higher education, combined with relevant professional experience).
    Language The training courses will be conducted in English only. All applicants are required to be fluent in English.

Scholarships

  • 15 full scholarships covering registration cost for the online and the in-person courses as well as travel and accommodation to attend the in-person course;
  • 35 partial scholarships covering registration cost for the online and the in-person courses
  • 20 online course scholarships covering registration cost for the online course

What do participants need to follow the training courses?

Online:

  • a computer or mobile device, with audio
  • reliable internet connection
  • no special software is required

In-person:

  • travel to Vienna, Austria to attend workshops and training sessions for five days

What kind of certification will the participants receive?

Certificate of completion: all participants successfully completing the training course will receive an official certificate of completion.

Voluntary diploma: eligible participants who successfully pass the additional voluntary examination will receive an official diploma from UPEACE, carrying university credits.
