UNICEF Uganda has launched an Innovation Fund Challenge to deepen participatory practices in providing innovative solutions to national social policy challenges, with a view to transform the local ecosystem by leveraging on the disruptive power of technology as a driver for inclusive and sustainable growth. The main objective of the UNICEF Uganda Innovation Fund challenge is to provide innovative avenues to enhance UNICEF’s ability to achieve the outcomes outlined in the country programme document, and the achievement of the SDGs.

The main objective of the UNICEF Uganda Innovation Fund challenge is to provide innovative avenues to enhance UNICEF’s ability to achieve the outcomes outlined in the country programme document, and the achievement of the SDGs.

Selection criteria

All valid applications are reviewed by Judges in their respective challenge areas, and the top-scoring Finalists proceed to pitch their solutions.

Stage 1: Shortlisted ideas

These are ideas that make it to the last twenty (20) to pitch in-front of a panel of the advisory panelProblemSolution and InnovativenessPotential Impact

How well the applicant demonstrates an understanding of the beneficiary pain-point.
  • What is the problem and who is affected by it? Is there a clear articulation of the root causes beyond symptoms?
  • What is the magnitude of the problem? Is it frequent? Is there a large number of children and adolescents affected by the problem? Is it urgent? Is it mandatory? Is it expensive to solve?

Stage 2: Top ideas/solutions

These are ideas that make it to the incubation program after a pitch event.

They should have the necessary experience and skills to realise their idea to market. We shall be assessing:

Team composition: The founding team should have nationals and residents of Uganda. They should demonstrate availability to participate in the initiative.
