2013 Simon Cumbers Media Fund.

by lanredahunsi

Media professionals are advised that applications are now being accepted for the Summer 2013 round of the Simon Cumbers Media Fund.

The fund was established in memory of the late Irish journalist Simon Cumbers, who was killed in Saudi Arabia in 2004, while working with the BBC.  The aim of the fund is to support quality coverage of development issues in the Irish media to increase public understanding of the challenges facing communities in the developing world and the progress which is being achieved.

The fund is also designed to stimulate debate and greater public understanding of Ireland’s role in fostering international development, including the work of Irish Aid, the Government’s programme for overseas development.

The fund is open to all media disciplines and welcomes proposals from journalists wishing to report on issues including health, education, environment, business and sport in developing countries.

Projects that explore climate change and/ or sustainability; that promote a positive image of Africa and tackle stereotypes and those that are relevant to the Millennium Development Goals will be favoured by the judging panel, as will projects that focus on Irish Aid’s partner countries in Africa and Asia.

The deadline for receipt of applications for the summer round is 5pm on Friday, 10th May 2013. For further information, see: www.simoncumbersmediafund.ie.

All applicants are advised to read the guidelines before submitting their application form. Applicants are also encouraged to look at information available in the supporting materials page to assist in preparing their applications.
