The Islamic Development Bank Young Professionals Program (YPP) is the strategic talent pipeline for the professional career in the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group. The Program is designed for outstanding young graduates who can significantly help the IDB Group to carry out its mission and attain its objectives.

This Program enables each Young Professional (YP) to receive extensive exposure and experience of the IDB Group’s various activities through job rotations in different departments. Participants will initially spend two weeks Orientation stage in HRMD. Then, 27 months in Foundation stage which will be split into three rotations of 9 months each in IDB Group departments.

Participants will also benefit from a coaching/career counseling arrangement and a wide range of relevant training and developmental opportunities.

Upon successful program completion, the participant will gradually climb up the professional grades in the IDB Group.

Progression	Activities
Foundation Stage	Two weeks Orientation at HRMD Three department rotations of 9 months duration each The objective of this stage is to develop/strengthen the foundation of YPs with required competencies, knowledge and skills needed in the IDB Group, so that they could succeed professionally
Integration Stage	YPs shall be confirmed in one of the departments subject to meeting requirements Assigned a 3 to 6 months graduation project YPs are expected to be in this stage between 1 year to 2 years before considered for graduation The integrated YPs shall be exposed to LeadDP (Leadership Development Program) YPs to be fully integrated with the IDB’s operations and culture
Graduation	HRMD shall ensure that the YP is ready for the professional role Direct placement on the grade of the position for which he/she was selected Successful YPs awarded Certificate of Graduation

During the Program, the participants will also benefit from coaching/career counselling arrangements and a wide range of relevant training and developmental opportunities.

IDB Young Professional Programme Eligibility Criteria

Prospective candidates for the YPP must fulfill the following minimum requirements:
- Holds a Bachelor degree in development, education, economics, finance, accounting, business administration, engineering, information technology and law or any other specializations relevant to the work of the Bank from highly reputed Universities or international centers of excellence.
- Outstanding academic record. The indicators of high grades shall be based on education system of each country or region. The following grades from different education systems shall form a baseline for candidate’s eligibility for the YP program:
  - GPA 3.5 on the scale of 4 or equivalent for any other system
  - ‘A’ Grade according to regional systems following ABC grading
  - ‘Excellent’ (ممتاز) in Arab, Russian or any other region’s system following such grading system
  - Bien in French and Francophone systems.
  - 2nd Class Upper Honors in British system
- Shall be a citizen of an IDB member country; applicants from Muslim communities of non-member countries may be admitted
- Age not more than 32 years at the time of interviews. May be allowed to attend interviews if they are under the age requirement at the date of application.
- No working experience is required. However, experience shall be considered favourably
- Applicants in the following categories shall be considered as Priority candidates subject to their meeting entry requirements:
a) Professionals with experience in a field directly related to the IDB Group’s activities particularly experience working in global organizations

b) Under-represented nationalities from IDB member countries

c) Master’s degree or its equivalent or Ph.D

d) Good command of Arabic or either English or French provided he/she is able to work in English.

Selection Process

The General Selection Cycle is as follows:

Applications are received throughout the year
All candidates are subjected to a comprehensive, rigorous and competitive selection process
The Final Selection Interviews shall be normally held at IDB HQ in Jeddah
Selection of the final Candidates will be carried out through an Interview Panel
Successful candidates will be sent an offer from the Bank and expected to join the Bank in the next six months upon acceptance of the offer
The IDB is an international organisation and operates from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia having the headquarters based in Jeddah. In view of this, our employment conditions are subjected to the regulations and requirements of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In view of this, candidates are advised that you do not leave your current employment until a work visa invitation is approved by the Saudi authorities and forwarded to you through the Bank.
Further process will be carried out by the Human Resources Management Department (HRMD) upon receiving the response of the candidate.
The YP intake generally takes place in two to three batches annually.
Depending on the period your batch is processed, you shall be informed of the status accordingly. This may take some time as we typically receive large volumes of applications each time.

Worth of the IDB Young Professional Program

YPs shall be provided with continual support through coaching and guidance from the department they are rotated to. HRMD shall provide career and counseling support to help them in their career aspirations.

The YPP provides intensive training opportunities, a unique on-the-job training at the hand of international experts and continuous development. The YPP envisions a “total development” concept. It anchors on the 4Ts Development Model¹ encompassing the following:

Remunerations and Benefits

Basic Salary: Internationally competitive tax free salary based on education and experience of the YPs.
COLA: Cost of living allowance as per the management’s decision.
Transportation Allowance: Lump sum monthly payment besides basic salary.
Spouse Allowance: 5% of basic salary if the spouse is not working.
Housing Allowance: To a certain maximum limit.
Children Education Allowance: 75% of the actual costs of education to a prescribed limit.
Air Tickets: Granted for home leave
Dependency Allowance: A maximum of 5 dependents.
Medical Coverage: Medical treatment for staff members and their dependents
Leave: 24 working days leave for new staff members during one year in addition to 10 days casual leave to attend emergencies. YPs are only allowed to consume a maximum of 10 days annual leave once in each rotation.
Staff Retirement Plan: Co-contribution.

Medical Treatment Fund for Retirees: The IDB offers staff members the opportunity to participate in a medical treatment fund for retirement on a cost sharing basis.

The West African Health Organisation (WAHO), the Health Agency of ECOWAS, and its Partners announce its Young Professional Internship Programme (YPIP) 2014 which will commence in January 2014 and hereby invite applications from citizens of member countries of ECOWAS.

Goal
The goal of the programme is to equip young professionals with knowledge skills and experience for effective management of health problems in West Africa

Structure:

The 12 month programme is divided into 4 stages (I – IV).
Stages I and IV will take place at the headquarters of WAHO in Burkina Faso, during which the interns will acquire knowledge and competence in basic principles of public health, a second official language of ECOWAS, computer and new information technology as well as basic principles of management and leadership.
During stages II and III, the interns would be posted to host Institutions in different countries in West Africa to acquire practical skills and competencies in their technical areas of interest or professionals specialisation.
The technical areas should respond to health needs of the sub-regions and the priority domains of WAHO.

Priority Domains for 2014
The applicants for 2014 Internship should have interest in one or more of following priority technical areas/domains:

HIV/AIDS
Reproductive Health
Child Survival
Nutrition
Prevention Of Blindness
Malaria
Health Research
Disease Control/Epidemiology

Benefits
The Interns would be provided with accomodations and would receive a monthly allowance during the period. All travel costs related to the Internship would be paid for and learning materials would be provided

Eligibility
All applicants must be citizens of ECOWAS member countries, must be available throughout the 12 month period and should have:

Obtained a University degree or equivalent within past five years
Fluency in reading and writing at least one official ECOWAS language (English, French, Portuguese). Knowledge of a second language would be an advantage
Basic competence in information and communication technologies.
Not be more 35 (thirty five) years old by 31^st December 2013.

The United Nations is looking for highly qualified candidates who are ready to launch a professional career as an international civil servant. The young professionals programme (YPP) is a recruitment initiative that brings new talent to the United Nations through an annual entrance examination. For young, high-calibre professionals across the globe, the examination is a platform for launching a career at the United Nations. This programme builds upon the national competitive recruitment examination (NCRE) which was held for the last time in 2010.

Are you eligible to participate in the young professionals programme examination?

Do you hold at least a first-level university degree?
Are you 32 or younger by the end of this year?
Do you speak either English and/or French fluently?
Are you a national of a participating country?

The examination is held worldwide and is open to nationals of countries participating in the annual recruitment exercise – the list of participating countries is published annually and varies from year to year.

This examination is also held for staff members of the United Nations Secretariat who work within the General Service and other related categories and aspire to a career within the Professional and higher categories. The examination tests your substantive knowledge, analytical thinking, drafting abilities, as well as your awareness of international affairs.

Initially you will be appointed for two years and then be reviewed for a continuing appointment. The Organization promotes mobility within and across duty stations and job families. As a new recruit you are expected to work in at least two different functions and duty stations within your first five years of service. You will be offered orientation and mobility training as well as career support. This will help you adapt and accelerate the learning period leading to productive work and job satisfaction as an international civil servant.

The 2013 Young Professionals Programme (YPP) examinations will be held on 3 December 2013 in the following job families:

Legal Affairs and Statistics: 8 July – 5 September 2013

The Young Professionals Program (YPP) targets motivated and talented individuals under thirty-two (32) years of age, who are committed to African development, have demonstrated outstanding academic and professional achievement, and have demonstrated effective team work and leadership potential.

The African Development Bank (AfDB) hires approximately twenty (20) young professionals each year. Upon acceptance of offer and entry, the YPs complete a mandatory minimum of two years and maximum of three years on rotational assignments in different organizational units and sectors within the Bank. The YPs will undergo on-the-job training and mentoring that will equip them with skills, knowledge and experience to address developmental issues in Africa in particular and the developing world in general.

At the end of three years and upon successful completion of the program, the YPs will be equipped to compete for any relevant vacancies in the AfDB.

2013 YPP Selection Criteria

The following established selection criteria guide the recruitment and selection into the Program, and at no time will the Bank make an exception for any candidate:

Citizen of a member country (regional or non-regional) of the AfDB.
A maximum of 32 years of age by December 31st of the selection year.
A minimum of a Master’s degree or equivalent in Economics, Engineering, Social Sciences, International Development, Business Administration, Finance, or any discipline that is relevant to the business of the Bank, and with outstanding academic credentials.
Multi-disciplinary background and a minimum of three years relevant work experience. Demonstrated strong analytical skills; dynamism; results-orientation; and problem-solving capability.
Areas of particular interest to the Program include leadership potential; ability to work in a variety of operational and corporate tasks; ability to leverage knowledge with others; and adaptability to working in a multicultural setting.
Demonstrated passion for development issues and a commitment to Africa (field experience on the continent and/or in other developing countries is an added advantage).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English or French with a working knowledge of the other language (working knowledge of a third language that is relevant to the Bank’s operations in Africa is an advantage).
Working knowledge of Microsoft operating systems (PowerPoint, Excel, Visio). Additional I.T. skills are an advantage.

In addition, the AfDB will take into account skills in areas such as Information Communication and Technology (ICT); People management and Administration; Fiduciary Risks (i.e. Audit, Risk Management and Anti-Corruption); and Knowledge Management.

Please note that all applicants must have completed and obtained a Master’s or equivalent Degree Certificate by the time the vacancy announcement closes to be considered for the program.
