Young Global Changers Recoupling Awards 2025 for young Entrepreneurs & Innovators (Fully Funded to Global Solutions Summit in Berlin, Germany)

Applications are now open for the 2025 Young Global Changers Recoupling Awards. With the “Young Global Changers Recoupling Awards” the Global Solutions Initiative aims to identify, recognize and reward young changemakers from all over the world who contribute actively towards a better alignment – a “recoupling” – of economic prosperity with environmental sustainability and the needs and demands of societies, communities and individuals. 

The award seeks to recognize concrete practices and impactful youth-led projects and initiatives that drive change on the ground, while also serving as examples and inspiration beyond their immediate impact. Projects can be social enterprises as well as youth-led nonprofit initiatives.

  • Reimagine Business
  • Reimagine Social and Climate Action
  • Reimagine Civic Engagement

Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility Criteria for all Applicants 

The following criteria need to be fulfilled by all applicants to be eligible, independent from the category in which they apply. 

  • Individuals Only: Only individual people can apply. You cannot apply as an organization, only as its representative. 
  • Leading Role: Participants should have a leading position in the project or initiative they are applying with. (This can be the founder, co-founder, project-lead, initiator or a similar role.) 
  • Strong English: Participants must have a command of the English language  strong enough to present their work in front of a jury and an audience, and to participate in group conversations. 
  • Age: The Young Global Changers program aims to empower youth. Applicants should preferably be between the ages of 18 and 35. 
  • Motivation: The applicants should show motivation to become active members of a global network which aims at bringing about lasting global change. 

Eligibility Criteria for all Projects  

The following criteria need to be fulfilled by all projects to be eligible, independent from the category in which they apply. 

  • Recoupling: The project, business, or initiative with which you apply needs to aim at recoupling, i.e., a better alignment of economic or political activities with social well-being and environmental sustainability. This means putting the needs of people and environmental sustainability at the center of economic and/or political activities. 
  • Organizational Stage: The project or initiative must be beyond the idea stage. It should be currently active and running.  

Benefits

ALL ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS  join the Young Global Changers Extended Circle where they receive invitations to Global Solutions events, workshops and more.

THE TOP 50 applicants will become the new members of the Young Global Changers community. Projects will be presented on the Global Solutions Initiative website.

THE TOP 15 applicants will receive a full scholarship to join the Global Solutions Summit in Berlin, where they present their projects to a jury and a global audience. The scholarship includes the following:

  • Two full days of preparation, workshops and coaching sessions (May 3-4, 2025)
  • Free admission to the Global Solutions Summit 2024 (May 5-6, 2025)
  • Your chance to present your project in front of an international jury and a global audience.
  • Networking opportunities with great minds from academia, business, politics & civil society.
  • Fully funded accommodation for the time of the Summit and Prep-Days (May 2-7, 2025).
  • Travel expenses to and from Berlin.
  • Post summit possibilities for further engagement as part of our global network of Young Global Changers.

The 2025 YGC Recoupling Awards will have…

THE CATEGORY WINNERS: The winner of each category will receive a €2,500 prize and additional support for their project.

Scholarship cover,  

  • Travel expenses: Economy Class airfare or train tickets to and from Berlin, including the visa costs* 
  • Accommodation: A six-night stay (May 2-7, 2025) for the duration of the YGC Program and the Summit (breakfast included) arranged and covered by GSI** 
  • Summit Access: Free admission to the Global Solutions Summit 2025.

With the “Young Global Changers Recoupling Awards” the Global Solutions Initiative aims to identify and recognize young changemakers from all over the world who contribute actively towards a better alignment – a “recoupling” – of economic prosperity with environmental sustainability and the needs and demands of societies, communities and individuals. The award seeks to recognize concrete practices and impactful youth-led projects that drive change on the ground, while also serving as examples and inspiration beyond their immediate impact.

To be successful, projects must be guided by a people-centric approach, that puts the needs and voices of their stakeholders, customers, workers or communities at the center. Projects must be beyond the idea phase and can include social businesses as well as nonprofit activities. The finalists present their projects at the Global Solutions Summit in Berlin.

Reimagine Business

  1. Social Enterprise

Your organization needs to be a viable entity actively involved in commercial, industrial, or professional endeavors, with a demonstrable capacity for generating a positive impact on social or ecological dimensions. 

          2. Financial Self-Sufficiency 

Your organization may presently receive financial backing from external sources, such as grants, but must aim for financial self-sufficiency over a medium to long-term horizon.  

          3. Purpose Driven – Alignment Focus 

Your business or social enterprise is effectively executing a business strategy that purposefully incorporates and tangibly actualizes economic prosperity with the enhancement of social well-being and/or the promotion of environmental sustainability.

  • Accommodation for the time of the Global Solutions Summit (five nights, May 3-8, 2024)***
  • Free admission to the Global Solutions Summit 2024

*Please note that all expenses must be paid upfront and will be reimbursed within 6 weeks after the Global Solutions Summit. Participants are responsible for submitting reimbursement claims. Currency fluctuations may lead to small changes in the total amount reimbursed.

** Costs for train journeys or flights in economy class as well as visa costs can be reimbursed. Additional costs may apply, which will not be covered by the scholarship (this may include local transportation in Berlin, food, health or travel insurance and more).

***The hotel will be arranged and paid for by the Global Solutions Initiative. It will be located in the vicinity of the summit venue.

Please note that traveling to Berlin will only be possible if the local health and security situation allows!

Young Global Changers Recoupling Awards 2023 for young Entrepreneurs & Innovators (Fully Funded to Global Solutions Summit in Berlin, Germany)

The Young Global Changers (YGC) are individuals with innovative ideas on how to make this world a better place. They must have developed a project or an initiative to turn these ideas into action. The Young Global Changers program brings together these young people from around the world who are working towards a global paradigm shift, combining their talents and together becoming a strong voice for change.

Since 2017, the Young Global Changers program has attracted over 410 students and young professionals from more than 120 different countries to participate in the Global Solutions Summit and to attend the Global Solutions Summer School

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Young entrepreneurs or innovators who have started or are involved in a leading role in a social enterprise that aims at aligning economic activity with environmental sustainability and social prosperity.
  2. Young business leaders aiming at changing “business as usual” from the inside (“intrapreneurs”).
  3. Young non-profit actors, community organizers, advocacy leaders, campaigners, or implementers of social, economic, or environmental change on a local, regional or even on the global level.
  • The project, business or initiative that you apply with needs to aim at recoupling, i.e. a better alignment of economic or political activities with social well-being and environmental sustainability.
  • The applicant should have a leading position in the project/initiative they are applying with. (e.g. founder, co-founder, project-lead, initiator or a similar role.)
  • The applicant needs to be between the ages of 18 and 35.
  • Applicants need to be willing and motivated to become active members of a global network which aims at bringing about lasting global change.

How to Apply

Step 1:
Complete the online application form and include all relevant information about your project. There are no costs associated with the application. For a successful submission the following information and material will need to be provided:

  • Personal information (name, email address, place of residence, date and place of birth)
  • Project information (name of the project, project description, connection to recoupling)
  • Upload of the following documents: 1. CV, 2. project description, 3. photo of you, 4. short video (max. 5 min)

Step 2:
The selection and evaluation of the projects will be done by a jury. Of all projects submitted, the best 50 will be presented on our website, a minimum of 10 projects will be selected for the final round in Berlin.

Step 3:
The best initiatives among the finalists will be presented in front of a live jury of experts and a global audience at the Global Solutions Summit 2023 on May 15/16 in Berlin. The pitch can be held digitally or on-site. (It will not be a disadvantage if one of the finalists is not able to attend the summit in Berlin in person.)
