Applications are now open for the YALI RLC West Africa Emerging Leaders Program Cohort 52 (Onsite). The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) is the United States government’s signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders. The Accra Regional Leadership Centre (RLC) caters to 9 West African countries: Togo, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, The Gambia, Burkina Faso, Liberia, Cameroon, and Sierra Leone. The RLC is hosted by the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). The Center offers an innovative and game-changing leadership training program and develops the skills of young people so that they become the change they want to see in their communities.

The YALI Regional Leadership Center West Africa provides young African leaders who meet the above criteria with the necessary skills, tools, and opportunities to serve their organizations, communities, and countries better. Cohort 52 application which is currently open would offer in-person training in leadership for the Public Policy Management, Business and Entrepreneurship, and Civic Leadership track.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You must be between the ages of 18 – 35
  • Must be a citizen of Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Cote D’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone or The Gambia
  • Proficient in English language
  • A young person driving change within your organization, community or country
    With demonstrated leadership capabilities and interest in Public Policy Management, Business and Entrepreneurship, and Civic Leadership

Applications are encouraged from:

  • Rural-based and economically disadvantaged young leaders
  • Young leaders living with disabilities
  • Women
  • Other minority groups

Programme Details

Business and Entrepreneurship

This track caters to the range of emerging or aspiring entrepreneurs who expect to take on leadership roles within the private sector or build their own business ventures on the continent.

Civil Society Management

This track is oriented to those who are or aspire to be civically engaged and serve the public through non-governmental organizations, community based organizations, or volunteerism.

Public Policy and Management

This track is tailored to those who work or aspire to work in any level of government (including elected positions), regional organizations such as the African Union or the West Africa Community, international organizations such as the United Nations, or other publicly minded organizations or think tanks

Applications are now open for the YALI RLC West Africa Emerging Leaders Program cohort 51. The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) was launched by the United States government as a signature effort to invest in the next generation of African leaders.

The YALI Regional Leadership Center West Africa is looking for young men and women between the ages of 18 and 35 from Togo, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, The Gambia, Burkina Faso, Liberia, Cameroon and Sierra Leone who are ready to embrace leadership and work hard to transform their countries.

Requirements

Competition for the YALI Regional Leadership Center West Africa is a merit-based and open to young West African leaders who meet the following criteria:

  • Are 18 to 35 years of age at the time of application submission,
  • Are citizens and residents of one of the following countries: Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Liberia, Sierra     Leone, The Gambia and Burkina Faso.
  • Are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.
  • Are eligible to receive any necessary visa to Ghana, and
  • Are proficient in reading, writing, listening and speaking English.

Benefits

  • At the end of the program participants will be awarded with certificates and become members of the YALI Alumni
  • Participants will be taken through various forms of leadership training to prepare them for leadership roles in their various endeavors.

Applications are now open for the YALI RLC West Africa Emerging Leaders Program – Cohort 50. YALI RLC West Africa, Accra’s Hybrid Sector-specific Training Program “YOUTH IN AGRI-BUSINESS.”

Selection for participation in the YALI Regional Leadership Center West Africa, Accra training programs is conducted as a merit-based, open competition. All eligible applications are reviewed by a selection panel and shortlisted. Shortlisted applicants are interviewed and a final selection is made.

Join Cohort 50 Onsite training for agri-business actors serving vulnerable groups on the agri-business value chain. Get networking and mentoring opportunities through the program.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Youth with innovative businesses or social initiatives in agriculture
  • Youth whose work in public organizations addresses the needs of agric-stakeholders.

If you are selected to participate in the YALI West Africa Emerging Leaders Program, all of the following expenses will be covered by the program:

  • Visa to Accra (if required)
  • Round-trip travel from your country of citizenship* to Accra, Ghana
  • Transportation to/from Kotoka International Airport to/from the YALI Regional Leadership Center, West Africa – Accra, for all non-Ghanaian participants
  • For Ghanaian, transportation to/from the YALI Regional Leadership Center, West Africa – Accra will be provided for from your location of residence
  • Customized academic and leadership course;

  • A commitment to apply leadership skills and training to benefit your country and/or community after the program.
