World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) Learners’ Voice Program 2016/2017 ( Fully Funded to Qatar and Spain)

The WISE Learners’ Voice Program brings the perspectives of young people to the challenge of rethinking education, and equips them to take on leading roles in their fields and in the world of education. The Program is based on the idea that when learners are co-creators of their learning environments, they become active participants invested as stakeholders in the progress of their communities. The Program focuses on building knowledge of education, social entrepreneurship, leadership, and communication skills.

The Learners participate in the annual WISE Summit and in two intensive residential sessions delivered by expert faculty. These are supplemented by practical workshops and various online and on-site activities.   In a key component of the Program, the learners form teams to conceive and design grass-roots projects that address critical education challenges.  Selected projects, developed throughout the year, are presented at the following WISE Summit.

Learner Selection Criteria
  • Age and status: Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 25 on December 1,2016. All applicants must be considered legal adults in their home country.
  • Availability : Participants must be able to travel to Doha, Qatar, and be able and willing to participate in the full, mandatory WISE Learners’ Voice event in November/December 2016
  • Participants must be willing to contribute to online discussions prior to the event and to work with the WISE Team to prepare for your full engagement.
  • Participants must be able to take part in two mandatory residential sessions from January 2–13, 2017 in Doha, Qatar, and May 28-June 10, 2017 in Madrid, Spain
  • Attendance and participation in the mandatory sessions is critical. By submitting the form you are acknowledging these terms and committing to them.
  • Continued involvement and participation: Participants must be able to continue their involvement with the Learners’ Voice Program throughout the year. This includes no-site, on-line and group activities.
  • All participants must hold a passport that is valid for at least 18 months from 1 November 2016.
  • Academic and professional competencies: All participants should be able to demonstrate
    their academic and/or professional achievements and experiences to date.
  • Professional and wider interests: Participants should be able to demonstrate interest
    and/or involvement in education and other wider global development issues.
  • Social engagement: All participants must be able to demonstrate their engagement in wider social networks or communities broadly as sociated with their studies and/ or professional interests.
  • Character: Participants should be friendly, flexible and able to work well in multicultural, multinational teams.
  • Communication skills: Participants should be comfortable with presenting and speaking in public. Participants should have strong active listening skills.
  • Language skills : All participants should be proficient in spoken and written English.
  • All nominators and applicants must agree to respect final selection decisions made by the WISE Team. No appeal or claim will be accepted. Should your application be unsuccessful you can apply/nominateagain next year.

Benefits

  • The successful Learners will be expected to attend the activities in Doha in November/December 2016 and will be involved in year-long activities throughout 2017.
  • Your full attendance and participation is mandatory if you are to be considered for the program.
  • In addition to this, the WISE Learners’ Voice Program requires your individual commitment, attendance and full participation in two mandatory residential sessions.
  • The first will take place from January 2–13, 2017 in Doha, Qatar, and the second from
    May 28-June 10, 2017 in Madrid, Spain.
  • WISE-Qatar Foundation will cover all program-related expenses, including flights and
    accommodation, for the selected Learners.

The  World  Innovation  Summit  for  Education  (WISE)  was  established  by  Qatar  Foundation  in  2009   under  the  leadership  of  its  Chairperson,  Her  Highness  Sheikha  Moza  bin Nasser. WISE  is  an  international,  multi-­sectoral  platform  for  creative  thinking,  debate,  and  purposeful  action.
WISE  is  a  global  reference  in  new  approaches  to  education.  Through  the  annual  Summit  and  a  range  of  ongoing  programs,  WISE  is  promoting  innovation  and  building  the  future  of  education  through  collaboration.
The  annual  WISE  Summit  will  take  place  3-5  November  2015,  in Doha, Qatar.

Since   2013,   Learners have followed a   tailor-­made   yearlong   Executive   Education   Program.

Cost:

Qatar   Foundation   will   cover   all Program-related expenses,   including   flights   and   accommodation,   for  the  selected   Learners

Eligibility

In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:

  •  Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 25 on November 1, 2015. All students must be considered legal adults in their home country.
  •   Participants must be able to travel to Doha, Qatar, and be able and willing to participate in the full, mandatory WISE Learners’ Voice event beginning on November 1, 2015 and ending on November 5, 2015.
  • Participants must be able to take part in two mandatory residential sessions (10 days each) from January 3–15, 2016 in Doha, Qatar, and June 1–14, 2016 in Madrid, Spain.
  • Participants must be willing to contribute to online discussions prior to the event and to work with the WISE Team to prepare for a successful WISE Summit.
  • Participants must be able to continue their involvement with the Learners’ Voice Program following the WISE Summit, and participate in all Program events and activities during the remainder of 2015 and throughout 2016.
  • All participants must hold a passport that is valid for at least 18 months following the WISE Summit dates of November 3-5, 2015.
  • All participants should be able to demonstrate their academic and/or professional achievements and experiences to date.
  • All participants must be able to demonstrate their engagement in wider social networks or communities broadly associated with their studies and/ or professional interests
  • Participants should be able to demonstrate interest and/or involvement in education and other wider global development issues
  • Participants should be friendly, flexible and able to work well in multicultural, multinational teams.
  • Participants should be comfortable with presenting and speaking in public. Participants should have strong active listening skills.

  • All participants should be proficient in spoken and written English.

Each year, the WISE Awards  recognize six successful  innovative projects that are  addressing global educational  challenges.  WISE brings to light these educational models for  their positive contribution within a community or
society and their potential for scalability. Year by  year, WISE is building a community of educational  innovators which offers a fertile environment for  groundbreaking collaborations.

WISE is a global reference for new approaches to education

Each year, the WISE Awards identify, showcase and promote innovative educational projects that are having a transformative impact on societies and education.


The Selection Process:

All eligible applications, presented in English on the official application form, will be evaluated in accordance with
the regulations. A Pre-Jury will select 15 Finalists and the Jury will make the final selection of six winning projects.

The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), an initiative of QATAR FOUNDATION, invites applications for the 2013 WISE Awards. These Awards recognize, showcase and promote educational projects and activities that
have demonstrated a transformative impact upon societies and communities over a period of time.

The 2013 WISE Awards will celebrate six innovative educational projects for their positive contribution within a community or society. WISE seeks to share best practices world over and inspire others to spark change in education. The WISE Awards thus highlight today’s most innovative solutions and approaches that are addressing educational challenges confronting the world at large.

Project holders from any region, educational sector or level are encouraged to submit applications which demonstrate the quality and impact of their activities in accordance with the criteria.

ELIGIBILITY OF APPLICANTS

  • Eligible applicants are individuals, representing a project and the team associated with it, working in any sector of education, any type of organization and from any part of the world, whose achievements can be considered as outstanding.
  • Contact details and complete information on two external referees (e.g. former donors, local governments, other NGOs, etc.) must be included in all applications.
  • Only one application can be submitted for a single education activity or project. If more than one application is received for the same activity or project, all applications for that project will be deemed to be ineligible.
  • If the project is limited in duration, the applicant must provide a beginning and end date on the application form.
  • The initial applicant will be the recipient of the Award celebrated on stage during the Awards Ceremony held in Doha during the WISE Summit, October 29 – 31, 2013. Teams of individuals should select a project
    representative to apply and be the recipient of the Award.
  • People working for the WISE initiative in any way are not eligible to apply.

Wise-Prize-for-Education-2013

SUBMISSION PROCESS

Applications must be submitted online to http://www.wise-qatar.org/awards on the official application form that is also available at http://www.wise-qatar.org/awards. All applications should be uploaded using the filename “projectname.doc”.
The language of applications for the 2013 WISE Awards is English. Whilst the quality of written English is not a criterion for assessing applications, it is strongly recommended that applicants whose first language is not English pay particular attention to ensuring that their applications can be properly understood in English.
In the event of failure of the online application system due to exceptional circumstances, applicants should request a special dispensation from QATAR FOUNDATION before the final deadline for submission on [email protected] allowing them to post hard copies of their applications to the postal address that will be provided.
Requests for dispensation after the deadline will not be considered.

The WISE Awards are not intended to be a source of funding for new and untried ideas, and any such applications will not be considered. All applications must include evidence of the existing and current educational achievements of the project. General enquiries for funding support and submission of curricula vitae will also not be considered.

TIME SCHEDULE

  • The deadline for submission of applications is March 31, 2013, 23.59 GMT.
  • The Pre-Jury will then review all eligible applications.
  • The pre-selection of the 12 Finalists will be announced during June 2013.
  • The 12 Finalists will then be evaluated by an external team visiting the project onsite.
  • The Jury will review all the 12 Finalists and the evaluations conducted onsite.
  • The Awards ceremony will take place during the 2013 WISE Summit held in Doha, Qatar, on October 29-31, 2013
