Applications are now open for the 2024 Waislitz Global Citizen Award. Celebrating its tenth year, The Waislitz Global Citizen Awards are annual cash prizes totaling $250,000 that recognize the excellence of individuals in their work to end extreme poverty.

The awards are presented by the Waislitz Foundation and Global Citizen. The Waislitz foundation exists to create a positive social impact locally and globally through innovative projects that empower individuals to meet their full potential and make a measurable difference to the world.

Eligibility Requirements

Entrants aged eighteen (18) years of age or older from anywhere in the world are eligible to apply for the awards.

Prize

The 2024 Waislitz Global Citizen Awards feature three awards totaling $250,000.
$100,000: Waislitz Global Citizen Award (Grand Prize)
$75,000: The Waislitz Global Citizen Disruptor Award
$75,000: The Waislitz Global Citizens’ Choice Award
In addition to the cash prizes, the three winners will be profiled in editorial pieces that will be featured on the Global Citizen platform and social media.

The awards are presented by the Waislitz Foundation and Global Citizen, and supported by the leading US and Australian based cellular medicines company, Mesoblast Ltd. and Unico Capital Holdings.

“Ending extreme poverty is not a choice, it’s an obligation. My hope is that it will inspire many thousands of people around the world to do what they can to improve the living standards of those in dire need,” Chairman and Founder of the Melbourne-based Waislitz Foundation, Alex Waislitz.

DISRUPTION: Has the applicant created measurable impact in an innovative manner that disrupts the systems that allow for extreme poverty to exist?
SCALABILITY: How would this award enable/support the applicant to scale or improve their work?
ADAPTABILITY: Can the applicant demonstrate examples of their ability to adapt and evolve to changing conditions?

The grand prize Waislitz Global Citizen Award will be awarded to an applicant based on the 5 criteria listed above.

The Waislitz Global Citizen Disruptor Award will be awarded to an individual who excels in the “Disruption” criteria.

The Waislitz Global Citizens’ Choice Award will be selected with input from public online voting by the Global Citizen community.

Criteria

Recipients are selected based on individual merit in four key areas:

GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP
How does the nominee embody and exemplify the values and practices of a Global Citizen?

IMPACT
What is the nominee’s track record of reducing extreme poverty?

INNOVATION
How has the nominee brought new thinking to overcoming the challenge of ending extreme poverty?

POTENTIAL
How would this award enable/support the nominee to scale or improve their work? How would the nominee use the funding?

Benefits:

One winner is invited to New York to attend the Global Citizen Live event the week of September 24 where they receive $100,000. A short video covering the winners’ work will also be shown at the Global Citizen Live event.

The winner will also receive:

Airfare and accommodation in New York to attend 2018 Global Citizen Live, Movement Makers, and the Global Citizen Festival the week of September 24 for the winner and a guest.
The opportunity to participate in the Global Citizen Live Event, an event with the world’s leaders in business, media, technology and culture convened the week of September 24.

Semi-Finalists Receive

Two Semi-Finalists will also be selected: Global Citizen’s Choice Award and Youth Innovation Award (for applicants under 35).

Tickets to the Global Citizen Live Event, an event with the world’s leaders in business, media, technology and culture convened the week of September 24.

$50,000 for each semi-finalist winner.

Application Procedure:

You will submit a three-minute video and 500-word essay that tell us about you and your work. Your submission should address the questions below:

Who are you? Introduce yourself and your team.
What are you doing? Tell us how you are working to reduce extreme poverty and how your work is different.
How is your work innovative? Does the work you’re doing tackle a particular problem in a different way than done previously? Is your solution sustainable?
What inspired you to take action? Tell us how you got the idea for your work and your successes (or opportunities).
What’s your impact? Lay out a clear specific timeline, plan and metrics for success. What are your goals? Who are you positively affecting? How are you reaching them? How will the Waislitz Global Citizen Award help you achieve your goals?
What’s your budget? Show us you have a plan and will use the funds wisely.

POTENTIAL: How would this award enable/support the nominee to scale or improve their work? How would the nominee use the funding?

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible to win a Prize, the Prize Winners must:

hold a valid passport, and be responsible for any requisite visas required to travel to New York City, for the period 18-23 September 2017;
be able to attend the 2017 Global Citizen Live on Monday, September 18, 2017. Attending the Global Citizen Festival in New York City on 23 September, 2017 is optional; and
agree to provide regular written updates to Promoter on their use of the Prize.

One winner will be invited to New York to attend the Global Citizen Live event on September 18, 2017 at Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, where they will receive $100,000. A short video covering the winners’ work will also be shown at the Global Citizen Live event on September 18.
