2015 Friends of Waldorf Education paid volunteering Opportunities in Germany

People of all nations are invited to apply for voluntary service in Germany sponsored by the Friends of Waldorf Education. The Incoming Volunteer Program is designed for motivated, socially committed women and men of 18 years and up whose permanent residence is outside Germany.

For a voluntary service starting in August 2015 please apply from 1st  November 2014 until 28th February 2015.

Eligibility Requirement:

You must

  • be at least 18 years old (there is no maximum age).
  • have permanent residency outside Germany.
  • be socially motivated and show dedication to your work or engagement.
  • know at least the basics of the German language.
  • have already gathered practical experience in working with people with special needs or with the elderly
  • be prepared to work for 12 months in a full-time capacity. Shorter terms of service are not possible.
  • be entirely open to living together with the residents and patients of an institution for curative therapy (children with disabilities), social therapy (adults with disabilities) or a home for the elderly.
  • be eager for personal development and be ready to integrate yourself fully in a new culture and work environment.
  • show initiative and a strong sense of social engagement, as these fields of work will, at least in part, be quite demanding.

Financing

Before and during the period of service, volunteers receive the following benefits:

  • Support with visa application (official invitation) prior to service
  • An allowance of at least 150 euros per month during the duration of the service
  • Free room and board while in Germany
  • Free health, accident and liability insurance
  • Contractually regulated holidays
  • Educational and administrative backing and support through the Friends of Waldorf Education during the voluntary service
  • 20 accompanying seminar days, free of charge, at the beginning, during and at the close of the voluntary service, as well as transportation costs to and from the seminars

Kenya National Volunteers Program for recent university graduates.

As part of this programme, the Government of Kenya seeks to recruit high performing recent university graduates to serve as Volunteer Graduate Assistants in primary schools for an un-interrupted period of 1 year. They will provide education support and serve as ‘education ambassadors’ in the surrounding community. Two volunteers will be placed in each participating primary school and will receive a modest living stipend of KShs. 6,000 per month.

he Kenya National Volunteers Program is a national service programme which aims to meet three key objectives:

  • Create enriching opportunities for over 30,000 unemployed Kenyan youth
  • Promote national cohesion
  • Improve educational outcomes for over 2 million primary aged children
  • Volunteers MUST have completed their course work and any related research
  • Volunteers MUST hold a University Degree in any area of study
  • Volunteers MUST have officially graduated from their Universities at the time of applying

Requirement:

  • If you are 22 – 30, a recent University Graduate, Interested in Volunteering, Interested in Self Improvement, Actively Searching for a Career, Ambitious, Driven, Hard Working, Brave & Adventurous and Disciplined

TRAINING AND DEPLOYMENT

  • The selected Volunteers will participate in a 3-week intensive residential training course that will be aimed at preparing them for their placement, and increasing their job skills.
  • Volunteers will be trained in key skills that will carry them into future employment.
  • After training, Volunteers will be deployed in pairs to their placements, first meeting county and district officials, participating head teachers, school management committee members and other Volunteers in their region.
  • Volunteers will be deployed to another County other than their own and will stay with a host family during the 1 Year in the field.

Selection Process:

  • Successful candidates will be selected through a rigorous and competitive selection process.
  • Success will be determined by a combined score based on your online application, correct responses to essay questions, correct responses to a series of online tests and success based on an assesment by independent and professional in-person interviewers.
  • These reviews will ensure that a high-quality cohort of volunteers who understand and are committed to the programme’s objectives are selected.

Benefits

  • At the conclusion of the one year of service, Volunteers will graduate and receive an official completion certificate.
  • The names of the Volunteers who successfully complete the programme will be gazetted and their service recognized.
  • Following the graduation ceremony, many Volunteers will begin their internships, mentoring opportunities, jobs or start their own businesses.
  • Graduates will also be expected to maintain an active alumni network that will further build on their professional skills, networking opportunities and build the programme’s visibility.
  • ACCESS TO KENYA’S EMPLOYERS
    • After 9 months of service, Volunteers will gather at a Career Fair and Capacity Building Workshop.
    • During the event, Volunteers will receive training and guidance on career development.
    • Representatives from the Private, Public and Non-Profit sector will give motivational talks, and skills training to the Volunteers and will meet with top-performing individuals in small groups.
    • These representatives will review evaluations of the Volunteer’s performance with the pupils in the schools that the Volunteers have been serving in.
    • They will shortlist some Volunteers to enter into existing in-house internships and mentoring programmes in their companies. Volunteers who are successful in these companies’ assesment process will be offered internship, mentoring and job opportunities.
    • All Volunteers will return to their placements and complete the final months of their Volunteering assignment.

Role Overview

  • VSO Nigeria is looking to recruit 4 young experienced, skilled and efficient Project Officers to provide programmatic and administrative support to the ICS Programme.
  • This position will be based in Lagos, Kwara, Osun and Abuja. Each PO will report to the Youth Programmes Officer in-charge of each location.
  • The persons will be responsible for volunteer support, facilitation, relationship management and partnership working, programme development support, reporting, monitoring and evaluation, and budget management specific to the ICS programme.
  • With considerable experience of working with young people in an international development context, the Project Officer will be responsible for supporting a pair of volunteer Team Leaders (TL) to provide pastoral support to a team of UK & In-Country volunteers, and facilitate learning for TL and volunteers during their placements

Proven experience of working with and providing support to 18-25 year olds from a wide range of backgrounds with proven ability to facilitate learning in a non-formal environment.

• Cross-Cultural Working
Direct and substantial experience of working cross-culturally and able to communicate to a range of audiences and promote sharing and learning between cultures.

• International Development
Knowledge of issues which are common to communities in developing countries, possibly achieved through working or living in a developing country. Experience of promoting learning about development issues.

• Communication
Possession of strong verbal communication to work effectively and inclusively with an overseas colleague. Strong written communication skills needed for writing reports.

• Supervision
Significant experience of working in a supervisory role. Proven ability to promote self-awareness, learning and development among individuals.

Planning and Organising
Able to develop clear and realistic plans to deliver agreed objectives within deadlines, involving key individuals in the planning process.

• Desirable
Budget Management
Experience of managing budgets and undertaking accounting procedures.

Eligibility

The United Nations Online Volunteering Award 2013,

The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is calling for nominations for the UNV Online Volunteering Award 2013, which will be presented to ten online volunteers or teams of online volunteers for their contributions to peace and development projects and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

A jury made up of UNV representatives and external experts in volunteerism and development cooperation will review the nominations and select the 10 winners.

In the run up to International Volunteer Day (IVD) on 5 December,  the global public will be invited to vote for their favorite winner. The volunteer or team that gets the most votes will be announced as the public’s favorite on IVD.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

The award will be given to ONLINE VOLUNTEERS or TEAMS OF ONLINE VOLUNTEERS, who supported an organization working for peace and development over the Internet. The online collaboration must date back less than two years and must have been facilitated through the UNV Online Volunteering service.

SELECTION CRITERIA

The jury will review the nominations and select the 10 winners based on the following criteria:

* Online volunteers’ commitment and contribution
* Collaboration between the volunteers and the organization
* Result of the collaboration and impact on the organization’s activities

PURPOSE

The purpose of the award is to recognize online volunteers’ contributions towards achieving the MDGs, to showcase the many ways in which online volunteers can strengthen the capacities of organizations and to demonstrate the difference volunteers can make to peace and development projects by sharing their time, skills and expertise over the Internet.

The UNV Online Volunteering Award presents an opportunity for both, online volunteers and organizations, to bring their online volunteering experiences and good practices to the attention of a global audience.

Your experience may inspire others and thus help mobilize more volunteers to engage in peace and development activities over the Internet, or encourage more organizations to strengthen their efforts by tapping into the rich resource that online volunteers provide. Also, by submitting your nomination, you express your appreciation to your volunteers or fellow online volunteers for a successful online collaboration.
