Visa For Music (VFM) Africa and Middle-East Music Meeting 2017 for Artists – Rabat, Morocco.

The 4th edition of Visa For Music, the first professional music market for Africa and the Middle East, will be held from 22th to 25th November 2017 in Rabat, Morocco.

The call for applications for the showcase program is open until 15th April 2017. 30 artists or groups are going to be selected by a qualified jury to perform in front of music industry professionals from all over the world.

Visa For Music (VFM) is the first professional market of Africa and Middle-East musics : it is a new event born in 2013 and organizing its 4th edition in 2017, with 30 showcases at the center of the project, but also conferences, documentary projections, speed-meetings, workshops and trainings…

This project was born from a paradox : on the one hand, the lack of visibility for African and Middle-Eastern artists at an international level and, on the other hand, a very important artistic dynamism and musical creation from these musicians. To fight against this problem, Visa For Music has as first goal to highlight the artistic creation of Africa and the Middle-East, first of all regarding the world music and actual music.

The six main goals of Visa For Music are:

  • Promote music from Morocco, Africa and the Middle-East to Europe and northern markets
  • Encourage artistic mobility between African countries and the Middle-East
  • Participate in the development of the local cultural sector in these areas
  • Develop the music scene at an international level
  • Contribute to the improvement of the status of artists from southern countries
  • Strengthen the North-South and South-South relationships in the cultural sector

After three edition Visa For Music became one of the essential and major meeting places for professionals of the whole music industry, as a sharing platform for the defense and promotion of the musical sector of African and Middle-Eastern countries, with approximately 3200 professionals assisting to the 123 showcases by the 693 artists.

As a meeting and sharing platform, Visa For Music is aimed at professionals of the music industry, more specifically :

  • – Artists and groups
  • – Independent and major labels
  •  -Producers and broadcasters
  • – Publishers and distributors
  • – Theaters and festivals
  • -Artistic directors, managers, agents, tour organizers

As an international meeting place and new market, Visa For Music also wants to gather all the representatives of the cultural landscape:

  •  Professional organizations
  •  Media companies
  •  Associations, foundations
  •  International institutions, public institutions, governments, local authorities
  •  Networks
  •  Actors of the civil society

How to Apply:

To apply to participate to the 4th edition of Visa For Music, send the documents mentioned below. Any incomplete application or received after this deadline will not be considered.

  • 2 copies of the artist’s/band’s CD to send by post or a wetransfer with all the tracks
  • Press kit (information about artist/group, biography, discography, photos…)
  • Technical Rider

Results will be posted online on our official website starting from July 2017.

Visa For Music (VFM), 1er salon des musiques d’Afrique et du Moyen-Orient, est une manifestation inédite. Le projet naît d’un paradoxe : d’un côté, le manque – voire l’absence – de visibilité des artistes d’Afrique et du Moyen-Orient à l’international, de l’autre la présence d’un dynamisme artistique et d’une création musicale pourtant extrêmement riche.

Dès lors, la volonté de Visa For Music est de mettre en valeur les artistes d’Afrique et du Moyen-Orient, principalement dans les musiques du monde et musiques actuelles.

Visa For Music est un rendez-vous incontournable pour les professionnels de la musique au sens large, quels qu’ils soient et d’où qu’ils viennent, et se veut être une plateforme d’échange pour la défense et la promotion de la filière musicale des pays d’Afrique et du Moyen-Orient.

En résumé, Visa For Music, c’est six missions principales :

  1. Promouvoir les musiques d’Afrique et du Moyen-Orient à travers le monde
  2. Encourager la mobilité artistique entre les pays africains et du Moyen-Orient
  3. Favoriser le développement des secteurs culturels nationaux
  4. Développer la scène musicale de la région à un niveau international
  5. Contribuer à l’amélioration de la condition des artistes du Sud
  6. Renforcer les rapports Nord-Sud et Sud-Sud dans le secteur culturel

What: Visa for Music Africa Middle-East Music Meeting
When: November, 11th to 14th, 2015 – Rabat, Morocco

Are you a Music Artist/Group, DJ, VJ, Documentary Filmmaker or a Music Video Director?

Visa For Music (VFM) is the first professional market of Africa and Middle-East musics. The project is born from a paradox : on the one hand, the lack –or even the absence- of visibility of African and Middle Eastern artists at an international level and, on the other hand, there is a presence of a very important artistic dynamism and musical creation that these musicians need to be recognized for.
From 11 to 14 November 2015, this international music salon is going to be held again in Rabat, Morocco. A series of cultural events are planned, including showcases to cast spotlight on established and emerging artists. A selection of 24 artists will have the opportunity to perform in front of professionals.

A call for applications, which ends on 15th of April, has been published already. It invites musicians and Djs/Vjs showcases, documentary movies and music video clips to participate.

The salon gathers professionals of the music industry: Artists, professional organizations, agents, record companies, cultural institutions and foundations, media and edition, managers, trainers etc. It is also a mean to revitalize cultural and creative industries of the concerned regions to boost their economy.Conferences, roundtables, documentary showing,professional training and speed-meeting are already in the program.

1) Visa For Music offers a programme that enhances the value and importance of Moroccan, African, Middle-Eastern and World Music.
2) Only professional artists and groups, existing since one year at least and having a stage
experience, will be considered.
3) Only applicants over 18 years old will be taken into account.

As a meeting and sharing platform, Visa For Music is aimed at professionals of the music industry, more specifically:
  • – Artists and groups

Benefits:

For selected artists, Visa For Music will pay the following expenses for 8 persons at the
most :

  • hotel expenses in twin rooms for two nights maximum (including breakfast),
  • all local transport costs, related to the performance,
  • meals (for 3 days maximum),
  • passes for access to concerts for the duration of the event,
  • presence in the Visa For Music guide and on the internet website.
  • For each selected group, Visa For Music will provide one professional one pass international music expo show, whole event to one person representing the group.
  • No charge is made to the artists applying to take part in Visa For Music, but all the above
    regulations must be accepted by applicants.
