Shark Tank of Wellness Student Competition 2017 for University Students Worldwide (Fully Funded to Global Wellness Summit in Florida, USA)

The “Shark Tank of Wellness” competition is a unique global challenge in which university students have the opportunity to submit their most innovative, impactful idea for the wellness industry. We define the wellness industry broadly and are looking for innovations in sectors as varied as architecture/design, beauty, education, fitness, hospitality, investment, medicine, nutrition, real estate, spa, technology, travel, tourism, and more. Submissions should take the form of a written application as well as a short one to two minute video presentation of the idea. The wellness industry is currently valued at over USD $3.7 trillion, thus providing ample opportunity for people with great ideas!

Eligibility

  • The competition is open to both individuals and teams of students over the age of 18 from anywhere in the world. There is no entry fee.
  • The contestant(s) must be an undergraduate student (working towards a two year diploma or four year Bachelor’s degree) or graduate/post-graduate student (working towards a masters, MBA, JD, MD, or PhD degree) in a university or college of distinction at the time they develop and submit their concept.
  • The contestant(s) must be either a full-time or part-time student at the university or college, and must have a professor or faculty advisor who serves as a mentor to them.
  • If a team is chosen as one of the top three finalists, the team leader will be flown to Palm Beach, Florida along with his/her professor or faculty advisor.

Benefits

  • The top three finalists will be flown, along with their professors, to the annual Global Wellness Summit (GWS) held October 9-11 at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida. Here, they will present their business idea to the attending Summit delegates — a “who’s who” in the global wellness world.

PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival 2017 on Migration, Diversity & Social Inclusion (Fully Funded to New York, USA)

PLURAL + is a youth-produced video festival which encourages young people to explore migration, diversity and social inclusion, and to share their creative vision with the world.

PLURAL + is a joint initiative between the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the International Organization for Migration, with a network of over 50 partner organizations, who support the creative efforts of young people and distribute their videos worldwide.

Eligibility

  • Entrants to PLURAL+ must be of maximum 25 years of age at the time of the production of the video submitted to PLURAL+.
  • People appearing in the video do not have to be youth. However the videos must reflect the youth’s opinions or reflections about migration, diversity and social inclusion.
  • Multiple youth may work together to make one video, as long as all members of the group are maximum 25 years of age at the time of the production of the video submitted to PLURAL+.
  • Only minimal roles of any adults (over the age of 25) involved in the making of the video (e.g. educators, teachers, instructors, etc.) is acceptable (group coordination, technical support, renting equipment, etc.). It is understood that particularly for the age group of up to 12 years, educators could have a more substantial role in the production of the video.
  • If multiple youth work together on one video then the video will be judged in the age category of the entrant who has a primary role in the creation of the video.
  • Immediate family members (siblings, children and grandchildren) of IOM, UNAOC and the jurors for the PLURAL+ Video Festival are not eligible to enter.

Format

  • All videos should be submitted as a file (preferably as “.mov”) via a file hosting website like dropbox.com, WeTransfer, Google Drive, etc. The entrant may also choose to mail a DVD of the video entry to PLURAL+ mailing address.
  • Videos that are not in English must have English subtitles.
  • All videos must be five (5) minutes maximum of running time, including title and end credits.

Prizes and Awards

    • The PLURAL+ JURY AWARD prizes will be awarded in three (3) age-based categories:
      • up to 12 years old
      • 13 to 17 years old
      • 18 to 25 years old
    • The PLURAL+ Jury Awards will be awarded to one entrant per category and will be selected by an independent international jury.
      The 3 winners of the PLURAL+ JURY AWARD will each receive US$1,000 after the PLURAL+ 2017 Awards Ceremony
    • One representative of each PLURAL+ International Jury Award winner will be invited to New York, with airfare and hotel accommodation paid, to present their work at the PLURAL+ 2017 Awards Ceremony in New York in the fall of 2017. Only a youth entrant with one chaperone for each winning video will be flown to New York.
    • PLURAL+ 2017 will also select a video for the PLURAL+ Award for the Prevention of Xenophobia
    • Additional awards may be given by PLURAL+ partners and may include equipment, travel or professional opportunities. IOM and UNAOC or PLURAL+ bear no responsibility regarding partner awards. See past partner awards here.

 

  • Winning videos will receive broad recognition and exposure through wide multi-platform distribution of their work, including broadcast, satellite, internet, film festivals and possibly DVD.
  • Winning entrants will be notified no later than 15 August 2017.
  • A prestigious international jury will announce the winners in New York during an event in the Fall of 2017 in New York.

 

Deadline

  • Packages containing DVD entries must be posted by Sunday, 4 June 2017.
  • File hosting website must be received by the PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival before Midnight (New York City Time GMC -5hours) on Sunday, 4 June 2017.
  • Entries received after this time will not be considered for PLURAL+ 2017 . Please make sure that you leave ample time for your video to arrive in New York.

Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Scholarships (GHC) is a great opportunity to connect with other women in computing and innovative organizations, hear stories from peers and experts, and get quality career advice specific to your needs.

Scholarship Details
Student and Faculty Scholarships include:

  • Individual Registration for the three day conference
  • Hotel accommodations (Student Scholars will be assigned a roommate. Faculty Scholars will be assigned their own room)
  • Meal card for use at the convention center during the conference
  • Travel stipend (if used wisely, stipend will cover airfare, transportation costs to and from the airport, baggage fees, meals during travel, and other travel incidentals)
    GHC provide the stipend after your attendance at the conference has been verified.
  • Scholars pay upfront for flights/meals and then receive the stipend in December.
    Student Eligibility
  • You must be a full time student enrolled in an accredited degree program at a college or university at the time of the conference (October 2017). Those graduating prior to the conference are not eligible unless accepted to another related degree program (such as a M.S. or Ph.D. program).
  • Show satisfactory progress toward a degree such as, but not limited to, computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline such as electrical engineering, math, or physics.
  • Be able to demonstrate an interest in computer science.
  • You cannot have been an ABI-GHC Scholarship recipient in 2016.
  • You must be at least 18 years of age by October 1, 2017.
    You cannot accept more than one scholarship to GHC.

Faculty Eligibility

  • You must be teaching at an accredited college or university at the time of the conference. We do not award scholarships to High School teachers, as the conference does not provide programming for K-12.
  • You must teach in a degree program such as, but not limited to, computer science, computer engineering, or a related technical discipline such as electrical engineering, math, or physics.
  • If you receive a scholarship and do not notify ABI that you cannot attend prior to the conference, you will not be eligible in future years as this takes a scholarship away from another faculty that could have attended.

The faculty scholar?

  • Faculty scholars mentor female students.
  • Scholars are active in computing community, providing support to computing clubs and/or organizations.
  • GHC will have an impact on the scholar and the message they take back to school.

EASST Visiting Fellowship 2017/2018 for East African social scientists (Fully Funded to University of California, USA)

In Spring 2017, EASST will host its sixth annual Visiting Fellowship application. The EASST Visiting Fellowship seeks to equip East African social scientists with the skills needed to carry out rigorous evaluations of social or economic development projects in East Africa. During a four-month fellowship, researchers will be based at the University of California, Berkeley during the Fall academic semester (approximately August 20 – December 20, 2017).

Selected fellows are able to audit courses, present research, attend seminars, develop curricula and design collaborative research projects.

Requirements:

ELIGIBILITY
Eligible candidates for all EASST programs must:

  • Be a resident of an East African country participating in EASST (i.e. Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, or Uganda);
  • Have a PhD or Master’s degree (completed within the last 8 years) or be enrolled in a PhD program in economics, statistics, epidemiology/public health, or another social science discipline;
  • Hold a staff position at a research institution, university or other organization in East Africa, preferably one that supports policy-relevant, quantitative social science research;
  • Have participated in or have familiarity with impact evaluation research (either randomized or quasi-experimental studies) and econometrics;
  • Have participated in field-based data collection and rigorous empirical research/analysis;
  • Be computer literate, familiar with software programs such as STATA or R, fluent in English, and a strong public speaker;
  • Plan to return to a research institute in East Africa for at least 1 year after the fellowship; and
  • Demonstrate a commitment to building the capacity of African research institutions/universities.
  • Applicants interested in infectious diseases, women’s empowerment, agriculture, or digital credit will be given preference

FELLOWSHIP ACTIVITIES
During the fellowship period, visiting researchers will:
• Participate in seminars and conferences on research in social and economic development;
• Present their own work during seminars and workshops;
• Audit courses, including rigorous doctoral-level seminars in impact evaluation;
• Carry out an independent research project under the mentorship of faculty members. Projects can use existing data for retrospective analysis or set-up a study design for future data collection;
• Meet and collaborate with faculty or students in multiple academic departments;
• Design impact evaluation curricula that will be taught at an East African institution;
• Participate in policy dissemination by contributing to policy briefs, attending meetings with policymakers and stakeholders, and presenting at events;

SELECTION CRITERIA
Successful candidates must:
• Demonstrate strong quantitative skills, with past coursework in economics or statistics.
• Demonstrate an interest in rigorous program evaluation, policy analysis, and micro-level field data collection.
• Demonstrate a commitment to engaging policy-makers and disseminating research findings.
• Submit a clear and innovative research proposal to evaluate a specific public policy or program, using impact evaluation methodologies.

  • Fellows receive a living stipend, round-trip economy class air travel to Berkeley, CA, and the opportunity to receive seed funding promote impact evaluation at their home institution in East Africa.

Kellogg-Morgan Stanley Sustainable investing Challenge 2017 for Graduate Students Worldwide ($USD15,000 & Funded to Pitch in New York, USA).

The Kellogg-Morgan Stanley Sustainable investing Challenge harnesses the power of capital markets and student creativity to create positive impact in a world of perpetual resource scarcity and continued population growth. Every year, the Kellogg School of Management and Morgan Stanley partner to host the challenge where teams of graduate students from around the globe develop and pitch creative financial approaches to tackle our world’s most pressing challenges.

The 7th annual Kellogg-Morgan Stanley Sustainable Investing Challenge will take place April 7th, 2017.

Contestants must propose and defend a strategy that uses finance and investment tools rather than an operating enterprise to address an environmental or societal challenge. The competition is an opportunity to apply core finance principles to target the economic, social and environmental challenges that drive the field of sustainable investing. Pitches might focus on areas like water, energy, food, social mobility, climate change, education or healthcare, among others. Contestants are encouraged to apply the entire spectrum of investment tools, styles and asset classes.

The Challenge seeks to identify the next generation of sustainable finance practitioners, connect emerging leaders with industry professionals, and foster even greater emphasis on sustainability at graduate schools around the world.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Graduate students from around the world are invited to participate in the Kellogg-Morgan Stanley Sustainable Investing Challenge.
  • Teams are limited to a maximum of four members, all of whom must be enrolled in a graduate program at the time of the prospectus submission, and the team cannot include more than one member who is pursuing an Executive MBA.
  • A team may include members from different graduate schools.
  • All ideas must be the original ideas of the team members.
  • Each team is required to submit a two-page prospectus outlining their proposal.
  • From the submitted prospectuses, ten teams will be selected to present at the finals competition.
  • At least one team member should be available to present at the finals competition, if the team is chosen to advance to that round, and all team members attending the finals competition should plan to stay for the entire event.

Benefits

  • $15,000 in prizes will be awarded to the winning teams. Awards will be made for the overall quality of the proposals based on the judging criteria.

  • Ten selected teams will travel to the final competition and pitch in front of the panel of executive judges from some of the world’s top investing entities.

Application Procedure:

  • Teams of graduate students are invited to submit a two-page prospectus by February 15, 2017, 11:59PM CST that outlines an innovative financial vehicle that addresses a sustainability challenge and meets the requirements of an institutional investor (social operating enterprises are not applicable).
  • Each prospectus should appropriately address the guidelines provided.
  • Ten finalist teams will be selected from the pool of submissions and announced by February 24, 2017.
  • Finalists will present their proposals to a panel of judges at Morgan Stanley in New York on April 7, 2017.
  • A panel of experts from some of the world’s leading financial and impact investing institutions will review and judge the pitches.

MIT-Empowering the Teachers (MIT-ETT) is a teaching-focused fellowship, offered by MIT- AFRICA together with its corporate partner NNPC/Total E& P Nigeria Ltd. MIT-ETT enables Nigerian faculty in science and engineering to experience a semester at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Selected fellows will observe instruction in their disciplines and work as a group under the guidance of MIT faculty member, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Professor Akintunde Ibitayo Akinwande to prepare innovative curricula and approaches to teaching that can be introduced into their home universities on their return.

Description:

  • MIT-Empowering the Teachers will select up to nine outstanding young faculty fellows from the disciplines of electrical engineering, computer science, computer engineering, mechanical engineering and petroleum engineering from Nigerian universities to spend a semester at MIT in Fall 2017 and Spring 2018.
  • The faculty selected to participate in the MIT-ETT program will spend a full semester at MIT observing classes similar to ones they themselves currently teach. They will work on new curricular materials and teaching approaches for adoption in their own classes. During their stay at MIT, they will participate regularly in at least two MIT subjects (including lectures, recitations and tutorials) that correspond to courses the faculty members teach at their home universities.

  • Selected fellows will observe instruction in their disciplines and work as a group to prepare innovative curricula and approaches to teaching that can be introduced into their home universities on their return.

The Dart Center is offering a four-day reporting institute for international journalists on early childhood experience and the developing brain, March 9-12, 2017 at Columbia Journalism School in New York City.

To help journalists and news organizations around the world improve their reporting on early childhood experience and brain development, the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma, a project of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, is offering a reporting institute March 9-12, 2017.

The institute is designed for reporters covering a wide range of issues, from local education and social policy to refugees, conflict and international public health. It will focus on advancements in neuroscience and their implications for child development, concentrating especially on vulnerable children living in extreme poverty and constantly changing, unstable environments. The institute will also address national and international policy on health, education and related fields. Other topics may include early language development, impacts of stress on early brain development, successful intervention models and the influence of technology.

The institute will include panels and presentations by experts in neuroscience, child development, health, economics, sociology and education, as well as journalist-to-journalist seminars on how to translate these issues and themes into meaningful stories and relevant, captivating news coverage.

Requirements:

  • Participation is open to mid-career, English-speaking reporters, editors, news directors, photographers and producers working in print, broadcast and online media.
  • Staff, contract and freelance journalists are eligible to apply.
  • Thirty-five journalists from around the world will be selected for the institute.
  • All costs associated with attending (i.e. air or train fare, ground transportation to and from NYC airports, hotel accommodations and meals during the institute) will be covered by the Dart Center.

United Nations Global Compact Internship Winter 2017 for Young Professionals – New York, USA.

The UN Global Compact pursues two complementary objectives: (1) making the UN Global Compact and its principles part of business strategy and operations everywhere; and (2) facilitating cooperation among key stakeholders by promoting partnerships and other collective action in support of UN goals.

Duties

Depending on their level of experience and training, UN Global Compact interns will:

  • conduct research relating to the topic of corporate citizenship, especially on human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption;
  • draft and edit publications, papers and other documents;
  • liaise with Global Compact stakeholders on key corporate citizenship topics;
  • support the organization of meetings and events;
  • assist with outreach activities;
  • handle email and other inquiries;
  • assist in the implementation of the Global Compact’s integrity measures;
  • perform administrative tasks as assigned.

Duration and Period

Internships with the UN Global Compact are available for a duration of three to six months. The timing of internships is flexible. We encourage candidates to apply for the following sessions:

The 6th annual AMENDS Conference will take place from Wednesday, April 19th – Sunday, April 23rd 2017 at Stanford University, CA.

The American Middle Eastern Network for Dialogue at Stanford (AMENDS) is a collaborative student-led initiative interested in the promotion of understanding and respect around the Middle East, and the support of a generation of leaders who are working to ignite concrete social and economic development in the MENA region.

Accepted delegates will:

  • Present a 10-12 minute video talk about their initiative at Stanford University. Hosted on our channel, these talks have over 70,000 people.
  • Attend a networking dinner.
  • Receive financial and logistical assistance with flights and visas to and from Stanford, CA. Accommodations and food will be provided.
  • Attend workshops and talks at Stanford. In the past, this has included a talk by Prince Moulay Hicham, a workshop on presenting by the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and a workshop on design thinking by the Stanford d.school.
  • Join and take leadership in the AMEND Fellows Network, a self-sustaining network of 120 former delegates. For the past 3 years, a separate conference has been held annually for fellows at Koç University in Istanbul, Turkey.

  • have innovative ideas and well thought-out initiatives that could affect positive change in the world.

The Alltech Young Scientist (AYS) program features the world’s largest agriscience competition. It offers the brightest scientific thinkers from colleges and universities across the globe an opportunity to compete at the highest level and be rewarded for their innovative research.

Students are encouraged to join Alltech in pursuit of solutions in animal health and nutrition, crop science, agriculture analytical methods, food chain safety and traceability, human health and nutrition and other agriscience-related sectors, while also gaining valuable experience with the company’s global team.

Yale’s Maurice R. Greenberg World Fellows Program is a learning lab–a place to experiment. Yale bring innovative, multidisciplinary thinkers and doers from around the world to Yale for four months. We give them the space and time to step back from the intensity of their work to reflect, learn and be challenged both academically and personally.

Applications to the Greenberg World Fellows Program are accepted from across sectors and around the world.  Each class of Fellows is a unique group: geographically balanced, and representative of a wide range of professions, talents, and perspectives.  The 2017 program will run from mid-August to mid-December.  Fellows are expected to be in residence at Yale for the duration of the program. 

Greenberg World Fellows are rising stars from across sectors and borders. Each year, Yale scour the globe looking for people who are thinking outside the box, challenging stale solutions and creating new ways to address the world’s biggest problems. The ideal Greenberg World Fellow candidate is a mid-career, creative practitioner (not academic, we’ve got lots of those) and disruptive thinker.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • be in the mid-career stage Fellows are at least five, and typically not more than 20, years into their careers, with demonstrated work accomplishments, and a clear indication of future contributions and excellence.  The average age of a Greenberg World Fellow is 39, though there is no minimum or maximum age limit.
  • be fluent in English An excellent command of the English language is essential.
  • be a citizen of a country other than the United States  While dual citizens are eligible, preference is given to candidates whose work is focused outside the US.

Discovery Entrepreneurs MedTech Silicon Valley Programme is a new and innovative Enterprise and Supplier Development support offering by Discovery. The programme objectives are to provide local medtech entrepreneurs with the opportunity to network and learn in a global market, as well as gain access to tailored support for business growth.

Twenty selected entrepreneurs will spend a week in the San Francisco Bay area exploring the latest in global technology-driven innovation. Programme participants will also be provided with pre and post trip business development support and facilitated access to procurement, supply chain and investment opportunities within Discovery.

Eligibility Requirements:

This opportunity is open to all enterprises that comply with the following criteria:

  1. Are South African-registered enterprises
  2. Are tech-enabled and active in the health or wellness-related sectors
  3. Are post-revenue, with evidence of a transacting history of at least one year
  4. Have the potential to scale outside of South Africa
  5. Qualify as a small to medium enterprise with an annual turnover of less than R50 million

Preference will be given to:

  1. Enterprises that can demonstrate innovation – either in terms of actual product or service, delivery model or social innovation (broad base market reach);
  2. Enterprises that are at least 51% black-owned

Selection Criteria:

The second annual Solutions Summit is a catalytic gathering that will take place at UN Headquarters in New York during UN General Assembly week in September 2016. The purpose of the Solutions Summit is two-fold: 1) to lift up exceptional innovators — technologists, engineers, scientists, and others — who are developing solutions that address one or more of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and 2) to catalyze a grassroots effort, where communities scout and convene resources around solution-makers.

The first Solutions Summit in 2015 immediately followed the conclusion of the UN Sustainable Development Summit at which the SDGs were adopted by all 193 UN Member States. For 2016, the Solutions Summit will highlight projects that advance the objectives of one or more of the following upcoming global Summits and Conferences:

INTENDED OUTCOMES?
During the Solutions Summit, a group of selected global innovators will be invited to give a ‘lightning talk’ outlining their breakthrough efforts to a juxtaposed audience of senior policymakers who have the means to pave solid regulatory foundations, investors who care deeply about long-term change and impact, and industry leaders who are able to deploy quickly and at scale. The gathering will serve as a catalyst to convene resources and talent around solution-makers.

Organizers:

  • The Solutions Summit is led by the UN Foundation, the UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS) and the Global Innovation Exchange, in collaboration with the Global Entrepreneurship Council, and the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, with an open invitation for governments and other partners to join.

  • Demonstrate a need for financial assistance
  • Ability to attend and fully participate in the New York 2017 ISPA Congress, January 10 – 12, 2017, including the one-day Fellows-only Seminar on January 9, 2017
  • Have received no more than two ISPA Fellowships in the past

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of a 50-credit academic master’s program in 2 academic years

  • Employment in the development sector in Egypt following graduation for no less than 2 consecutive years

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Egyptian national

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a well-reputed academic institution in a related field of study

  • Satisfy the entry requirements into the academic MDP program

  • Demonstrate inability to finance studies from own resources

  • Previous coursework in mathematics, statistics, and economics is recommended

  • English language proficiency is required. Valid TOEFL or IELTS exam scores with a minimum of 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based), 100 (internet-based, minimum 22 on each section), or 7 for the IELTS

  • MDP accepted Graduate Record Examination score (GRE). No specific score is required, however, Fall 2015 admitted students tested within average GRE Verbal Percentile: 68th and average GRE Quantitative Reasoning Percentile: 54th

The GEF (Global Environment Facility), UNIDO (the United Nations Industrial Development Organization) and TIA (the Technology Innovation Agency) in South Africa are implementing the GCIP (Global Cleantech Innovation Programme) for SMEs to promote clean technology innovation and supporting SMEs and start-ups working on solutions related to energy efficiency, green buildings, renewable energy, waste beneficiation and water efficiency.

The programme combines a competition and a business accelerator to offer participants progressing through the programme extensive mentoring, training, access to investors and opportunities to showcase their innovations to the media and the public. Participants stand a chance to win a cash award and national business support awards, in addition to a trip to Silicon Valley, CA, to participate in the Cleantech Open Global Forum.

Eligibility Requirements:

1. Fit the definition of one of the Competition’s four clean technology and innovation categories and respective classification criteria.

2. Be a start-up company, typically less than 3 years in existence but not yet profitable OR an established SMME as defined by the Small Business Act (No. 102, 1996).

3. Demonstrate exclusive ownership of Intellectual Property Rights.

4. Be a two person team, minimum

  • At least one team member must be a South African resident, citizen, or legal alien (proof needs to be provided).
  • You may form a brand new team in order to apply to the Programme, and you do not need to have a registered company in order to apply. However, a South African legal entity (corporation, Pty (Ltd), or similar) must be created prior to receiving any prizes and any such legal entity must have an ownership structure typical of an independent start-up/SMME.
  • You must have a physical address in South Africa, and your team or company must have activities, such as sales, marketing, research and development, or administration, based in South Africa.

In addition:

5. All winners must be able to present a valid tax clearance certificate on request in order to qualify for prizes.

6. All entrants participating in the business coaching and mentoring will be required to sign an indemnity form.

7. Travel and accommodation costs for semi-finalists to attend mentoring and training programmes are at the cost of the entrant.

8. Finalists who do not reside in the province where the awards event is held will be provided travel (round trip within South Africa) and accommodation for one person to attend.

9. Prizes are not intended to subsidise corporate or university projects. The amount and source of any secured capital arrangements should be clearly identified in the team’s application.

10. Cash prizes may be taxable and the winners must comply with applicable requirements of the South African Revenue Service (SARS).  The entrants are advised to obtain independent financial advice in this regard.

The Earth Institute Postdoctoral Fellowship program is the premier program in the world for those dedicated to a better understanding of critical scientific and social issues in global sustainable development. Earth Institute Postdoctoral Fellows, often referred to as the EI Fellows, will join multidisciplinary teams of outstanding, committed scientists from across the Earth Institute and Columbia University.

The EI Fellows program provides innovative postdoctoral scholars with the opportunity to build a foundation in one of the core disciplines represented within the Earth Institute (i.e. social, earth, biological, engineering, and health sciences), while at the same time acquiring the breadth of cross-disciplinary expertise needed to address critical issues related to sustainable development.

Specific areas of research include food security, energy systems, climate change impacts, poverty reduction, disease, and environmental degradation. The program offers a unique intellectual surrounding that fosters cross-disciplinary interaction, research and education.

  • To be eligible for the program, candidates must have received their doctoral degrees (Ph.D., M.D. or J.D.) within five years prior to the start of the appointment.

Are you or do you know a young person from a developing country with an inspiring story about climate action? If so, the United Nations wants to hear from you.

A global search is underway for a young entrepreneur from a developing country to address a special United Nations High-Level Event on Climate Change, set for 29 June, and convened by the President of the General Assembly, Sam Kutesa.

The event, which will be attended by Ministers, business leaders and representatives from civil society organizations will take place just months before countries meet in Paris in December 2015 to adopt a new universal agreement on climate change.

Eligibility:

Before submitting a nomination, please confirm that the candidate:

  • is a representative of a civil society organization, and officially authorized by their organization/network to speak on the organization/network’s behalf;
    •     can address the relevant topics and guiding questions in the event concept note (link above);
    •     would be a compelling public speaker;
    •     is available to be in New York on 28-29 June 2015 and for travel if necessary;
    •     has a visa for travel to New York, or is able to obtain one within 2 weeks for travel to New York.
  • Please check with the US Embassy or Consulate in the candidate’s country or place of residence. The Office of the President of the General Assembly will provide an invitation letter to the selected candidate to support a visa application.
  • The participant will be responsible for obtaining the visa for travel.

What:

  • The search for a dynamic young speaker to address the opening ceremony is being conducted by the UN Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS).
  • In addition, UN-NGLS asks for candidates to participate in two other panels during the day of the meeting.

UN-NGLS is asking candidates who are representatives of civil society organizations to share their story of successful local climate action to help shift the world to a sustainable path, enabling economic opportunity, equality, and a healthy environment for all. Civil society representatives may also apply to serve on the Selection Committee for this event.

Where/When:

  • The event will be the highpoint of a week of climate change activities at UN Headquarters in New York, which kick off on 23 June with a meeting of business leaders organized by UN Global Compact.
  • This will be followed on 26 June by a two-day meeting of Ministers from the least developed countries (LDCs).
  • The events will culminate in a concert by leading World Music stars and the New York Symphony Orchestra on 30 June.
  • The events will all take place under the banner of the UN campaign “2015: Time for Global Action.”

MPORTANT NOTES:

The United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), in collaboration with ELS Educational Services, Inc., (ELS) invites students, 18 years and older, who are enrolled in a full-time course of study at a college or university, to participate in an essay contest through the Many Languages, One World programme.

Essay
Write an essay (2,000 words or less) related to the post-2015 global development agenda, in the context of the 70th anniversary of the United Nations, and the definition of new goals reflecting the imperative of global sustainable development that recognises, and is enriched by, cultural and linguistic diversity.   • Entries must be in an official language of the United Nations that is not your first language and was not your principal language of instruction during your primary or secondary education.

The Fellowship: Each year, Rotary selects up to 100 individuals from around the world to receive fully funded academic fellowships at one of our peace centers.

  • These fellowships cover tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and all internship and field-study expenses. Two types of peace fellowships are available.

Each year, Rotary funds some of the world’s most dedicated and brightest professionals to study at Rotary Peace Centers. Through training, study, and practice, Rotary Peace Fellows become leaders and catalysts for peace and conflict resolution; many go on to careers in national governments, NGOs, the military, law enforcement, and international organizations like the United Nations and World Bank.

Eligibility requirements

The Rotary Peace Fellowship is designed for professionals with work experience in international relations or peace and conflict prevention and resolution. Our fellows are committed to community and international service and the pursuit of peace.

Applicants must also meet the following requirements:

  • Proficiency in English; proficiency in a second language is strongly recommended
  • Strong commitment to international understanding and peace as demonstrated through professional and academic achievements and personal or community service
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Master’s degree applicants: minimum three years of related full-time work or volunteer experience, bachelor’s degree
  • Certificate applicants: minimum five years of related full-time work or volunteer experience, strong academic background

Master’s degree

Rotary offer master’s degree fellowships at premier universities in fields related to peace and conflict prevention and resolution. Programs last 15 to 24 months and require a practical internship of two to three months during the academic break. Each year, we award up to 50 master’s degree fellowships at these institutions:

Professional development certificate

For experienced professionals working in peace-related fields who want to enhance their professional skills, Rotary offer a three-month program in peace and conflict prevention and resolution at in Thailand. This program incorporates two to three weeks of field study. Rotary award up to 50 certificates each year.

Application process

Follow these steps to ensure that your application receives consideration. Find complete information about the process in the application and frequently asked questions document.

  1. Read the entire application before you begin.
  2. Thoroughly research the curriculum and programs at each of the Rotary Peace Centers.
  3. Master’s degree applicants: Collect all academic transcripts, test scores, and any other documents required by preferred universities as noted on the fellowship application. All supplementary materials must be in English. Certificate applicants: Academic transcripts or scores are not needed.
  4. Inform your that you are applying for a peace fellowship, and request an interview. District endorsement is required to complete the application process. TIP: Your local Rotary club can help you connect with your district. Use  to locate the club nearest you. Club interviews and endorsements are strongly encouraged but not required for applicants who have district support.
  5. Prior to interviews, fill out the , attach the required supplementary materials (test scores, academic or professional recommendations, essays), and submit them to your Rotary district no later than 31 May.
  6. Complete an interview with district representatives. Districts must submit endorsed applications to The Rotary Foundation by 1 July.
  7. Receive notice of selection results in November. If you are chosen for a fellowship, you will receive the name of the Peace Center where you will study.
  8. Apply for admission to the university where you will study. Being chosen for a fellowship does not mean you have been admitted to the university.

2015 Yale World Fellows Program for Mid-Career Emerging Global Leaders, Yale University, USA.

An incubator for a new kind of global leadership.

Yale World Fellows is an international fellowship program at Yale University for mid-career emerging leaders who have distinguished themselves in their profession, discipline, or geographic region. Each year, between fifteen and twenty participants, known as World Fellows, reside at Yale for the fall academic term.

Yale World Fellows brings rising stars from across disciplines and borders for an intense and unpredictable mash-up of ideas, world views and experiences. Applications to the Yale World Fellows Program are accepted from across sectors and around the world.  Each class of Fellows is a unique group, geographically balanced, and representative of a wide range of professions, talents, and perspectives.

During the four month program (from mid-August to mid-December), Yale World Fellows are fully immersed in the University community. They share their expertise and ideas in classes and seminars across Yale and New Haven. While most activities take place on campus and in the New Haven community, the program this year includes trips to New York City and Washington, DC and an off-site retreat.

The 2015 four-month residential Program will include: 

(1) A cutting-edge global issues curriculum;

(2) Individualized skill-building; and

(3) Access to prominent thinkers and practitioners;

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • be in the mid-career stage Fellows are at least five, and typically not more than twenty, years into their careers, with demonstrated work accomplishments, and a clear indication of future contributions and excellence.  The average age of a World Fellow is 39, though there is no minimum or maximum age limit.
  • be fluent in English An excellent command of the English language is essential.
  • be a citizen of a country other than the United States  While dual citizens are eligible, preference is given to candidates whose work is focused outside the US.

Ideal Candidates:

  • Fellows are mid-career thinkers and doers on a clear trajectory of success.
  • They’re dynamic, creative practitioners who have already been recognized for their work and would benefit from time at Yale to explore critical global issues and cross-disciplinary studies, sharpen leadership skills and build relationships with other emerging leaders.

The Seminar

The cornerstone of the Yale World Fellows Program is a 15-week global affairs colloquium taught by renowned faculty from across Yale’s undergraduate, graduate and Professional schools.

360º  Skill-Building

World Fellows are brought to Yale at a critical point in their careers. They have been recognized as leaders but are looking to have even greater professional impact

Up-Close Leadership Conversations

In a series off-the-record conversations, Fellows hear the personal side of professional trajectories and have the opportunity to ask hard questions to some of the world’s most gifted practitioners.

Self-Directed Study

Fellows can audit almost any of the 2,000+ courses offered at Yale University with the opportunity to develop or continue work on individual or collaborative research projects.

Selection criteria include:

  • An established record of extraordinary achievement and integrity;
  • Commitment to engagement in crucial issues and to making a difference at the national or international level;
  • Promise of a future career of leadership and notable impact;
  • Special capacity for critical, creative, entrepreneurial, and strategic thinking;
  • Likelihood to benefit from participation in the Program and to contribute to global understanding at Yale;
  • Commitment to a rigorous program of activities, to full-time residence at Yale for the entire duration of the program, and to mentoring students and speaking frequently on campus

Selection:

Final decisions will be announced in April 2015. All applicants, both successful and unsuccessful, will be notified of their status at that time.
