PLURAL + is a joint initiative between the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the International Organization for Migration, with a network of over 50 partner organizations, who support the creative efforts of young people and distribute their videos worldwide.

Since 2009 almost 1,300 entries from 90 countries have participated. Winning videos have been screened in dozens of festivals, cinemas and broadcast on television networks throughout the world. With your help, we hope to widen the impact of PLURAL+ even further.

PLURAL + is a youth-produced video festival which encourages young people to explore migration, diversity and social inclusion, and to share their creative vision with the world.

Each year, since 2009, a prestigious international jury selects three PLURAL+ International Jury Award winners in each age category (up to 12, 13-17, 18-25).

Eligibility

Entrants to PLURAL+ must be of maximum 25 years of age at the time of the production of the video submitted to PLURAL+.
People appearing in the video do not have to be youth. However the videos must reflect the youth’s opinions or reflections about migration, diversity and social inclusion.
Multiple youth may work together to make one video, as long as all members of the group are maximum 25 years of age at the time of the production of the video submitted to PLURAL+.
Only minimal roles of any adults (over the age of 25) involved in the making of the video (e.g. educators, teachers, instructors, etc.) is acceptable (group coordination, technical support, renting equipment, etc.). It is understood that particularly for the age group of up to 12 years, educators could have a more substantial role in the production of the video.
If multiple youth work together on one video then the video will be judged in the age category of the entrant who has a primary role in the creation of the video.
Immediate family members (siblings, children and grandchildren) of IOM, UNAOC and the jurors for the PLURAL+ Video Festival are not eligible to enter.

Format

All videos should be submitted as a file (preferably as “.mov”) via a file hosting website like dropbox.com, WeTransfer, Google Drive, etc. The entrant may also choose to mail a DVD of the video entry to PLURAL+ mailing address.
Videos that are not in English must have English subtitles.
All videos must be five (5) minutes maximum of running time, including title and end credits.

Benefits:

The International Jury Award winners will receive $1,000 as well as be invited to New York, all travel expenses paid, to present their work at the PLURAL + 2016 Festival Awards Ceremony at the Paley Center for Media in November 2016.
PLURAL+ partner organizations will also award other prizes and professional opportunities to over 20 of the best videos submitted, partners award winning videos will be invited to present their work at film and video festivals, conferences and events around the world.

Prizes and Awards

The PLURAL+ JURY AWARD prizes will be awarded in three (3) age-based categories:
- up to 12 years old
- 13 to 17 years old
- 18 to 25 years old
The PLURAL+ Jury Awards will be awarded to one entrant per category and will be selected by an independent international jury.
The 3 winners of the PLURAL+ JURY AWARD will each receive US$1,000 after the PLURAL+ 2016 Awards Ceremony
One representative of each PLURAL+ International Jury Award winner will be invited to New York, with airfare and hotel accommodation paid, to present their work at the PLURAL+ 2016 Awards Ceremony at the Paley Center for Media in the fall of 2016. Only a youth entrant with one chaperone for each winning video will be flown to New York.
Additional awards may be given by PLURAL+ partners and may include equipment, travel or professional opportunities. IOM and UNAOC or PLURAL+ bear no responsibility regarding partner awards. See past partner awards here.
Winning videos will receive broad recognition and exposure through wide multi-platform distribution of their work, including broadcast, satellite, internet, film festivals and possibly DVD.
Winning entrants will be notified no later than 15 August 2016.
A prestigious international jury will announce the winners in New York during an event hosted at the Paley Center for Media in the Fall of 2016 in New York.

Deadline

Packages containing DVD entries must be posted by Sunday, 29 May 2016.
File hosting website must be received by the PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival before Midnight (New York City Time GMC -5hours) on Sunday, 29 May 2016.
Entries received after this time will not be considered for PLURAL+ 2016 . Please make sure that you leave ample time for your video to arrive in New York.

2016 UNAOC Entrepreneurs for Social Change (E4SC) Programme , Torino Itlay (Fully Funded)

Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a social entrepreneur?
Do you want to create social and economic opportunities for you and for others around you?
Do you want to improve intercultural relations in your community and across the Mediterranean?
Do you have the courage to challenge yourself?

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and Fondazione CRT are organizing an 8-day training which will bring together 20 young people from the Euro-Mediterranean region to enhance the skills needed to boost a business idea with a social mission, and be a powerful motor of economic development and social inclusion.

In addition to this training, the selected 20 young adults will receive feedback from peers,

mentoring from experienced social entrepreneurs and will be matched with potential investors. The event will be organized at Fondazione CRT premises in Torino (Italy) from 18 to 25 October 2015.

Entrepreneurs for Social Change is a one-year programme of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and Fondazione CRT, which aims to support young social entrepreneurs in the Euro-Med region.

The programme offers a one-week intensive training for 20 social entrepreneurs who are selected through a competitive call for applications from the 26 countries that border the Mediterranean Sea. Ten experts from the roster of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations provide training sessions on building business models, fundraising, generating employment, facilitating intercultural understanding, engaging local communities, and addressing marginalization.

After the training, the social entrepreneurs have the opportunity to benefit from both one-on-one and group mentoring sessions. Through these, participants practically apply lessons they learn during the training, approach potential investors, strengthen their business plans, and test their social impact. One mentor works with each trainee for a period of 9 months to incubate his/her entrepreneurial idea and help move it forward.

The applicant:

• Has a social enterprise (or be in the process of establishing a social enterprise) which is either leveraging cultural and religious diversity or promoting broader social change and can potentially create economic opportunities and social inclusion for a specific community or across communities.

The social enterprise can already be established or be in itsinitial stages, the applicant must demonstrate how its idea is grounded and sustainable.

• Has a date of birth between 15th October 1979 and 15th October 1997.

• Holds a passport valid until at least 30th April 2016 (for a visa to be issued, a passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months after the expected date of entry into the country issuing the visa).

• Lives in and be of nationality from a Euro-Med country.

• Is fluent in spoken English

Albania, Algeria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Macedonia, Malta, Montenegro, Morocco, Palestinian territories, Portugal, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey

Application Process:

You need to submit an application package which must include the following documents:

• The application form (see separate document);

• A scan of the identification page of your current valid international passport

• Your resume/curriculum vitae, in English, with a maximum of 3

Selection criteria

Organizers of the training will adopt the following selection criteria to shortlist the

best 40 candidates:

• Applicant’s background;

• Objectives of the social enterprise;

• Capacity to frame social context and diversity issues;

• Capacity to address cultural/religious challenges;

• Capacity of the social enterprise to generate employment;

• Financial sustainability of the social enterprise.

The shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a selection panel between 25th July

and 15th August 2015.

The shortlisted candidates will be required to send additional documents at the request of the organizers. The 20 successful candidates will be selected by the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations

All selected participants will be provided with round0trip international tickets to Torino

(most direct route, economy class) and accommodation once in Torino. Meals and

coffee breaks will be provided during the training.

2015 United Nations Alliance of Civilizations/BMW Group Intercultural Innovation Award (USD$100,000+ Prize)

Since 2011, the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the BMW Group have engaged in a historic partnership geared towards creating a new model for collaboration between the private sector and the UN system.

Together, they have established the BMW Group Award for Intercultural Innovation, in support of the Alliance of Civilizations, under the auspices of the United Nations (otherwise known as The Intercultural Innovation Award), whose mandate is to select highly innovative grassroots projects that promote intercultural dialogue and understanding, making vital contributions to prosperity and peace.

The main objective of the Intercultural Innovation Award is to identify and support innovative projects that are already being implemented and have potential for expansion and replication. The Award is given to the organization that is implementing the project with the overall objective of helping the organization to expand and adapt the project to other contexts.

The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) is an initiative of the UN Secretary-General which aims to improve understanding and cooperative relations among nations and peoples across cultures and religions, and to help counter the forces that fuel polarization and extremism.

The Intercultural Innovation Award will be bestowed upon ten organizations

Eligibility

Monetary Prize:

Awardees will receive a monetary prize to be used for project expansion and/or replication of their project. The total amount of the prize pool is USD 100,500 distributed as follows:

1st Prize: USD 40,000

2nd Prize: USD 20,000

3rd Prize: USD 15,000

4th Prize: USD 8,000

5th Prize: USD 5,000

6th–10th: USD 2,500

THE AWARDS TRAINING AND CAPACITY-BUILDING

In order to increase the effectiveness of awarded organizations in their work to expand or replicate their project, the UNAOC and BMW Group have developed an Intercultural Innovation Award training and capacity-building program.
Awardees will gather twice during the one-year of support to participate in a multi-day capacity-building workshop addressing issues such as scaling up, financial sustainability, human resources management, communication skills, marketing and use of social media. Workshops will be facilitated by expert trainers as well as BMW Group associates.
In addition, organizations will be offered the chance to participate in a series of webinars and other training opportunities in various topics of interest to them.

CUSTOMIZED SUPPORT AND MENTORING

Awardees will draw from one-year active support and consulting from the UNAOC and the BMW Group in order to help them to become more efficient and to expand, as well as enable their transfer to other contexts or settings where relevant.

RECOGNITION AND VISIBILITY

Awarded organizations will be invited to participate in the 7th UNAOC Global Forum where the Awards Ceremony will take place in the presence of hundreds of Heads of States, ministers, media and civil society organizations.

INTERCULTURAL LEADERS MEMBERSHIP

Awardees will become members of “Intercultural Leaders”, a project of the UNAOC in partnership with the BMW Group. Intercultural Leaders is an exclusive skills and knowledge-sharing platform for civil society organizations and young leaders that work on addressing cross-cultural tension.

SELECTION OF FINALISTS

Ten finalists will be selected by an international jury of experts composed of scholars, practitioners and one member of both the UNAOC and the BMW Group.
Applications will be assessed using the comprehensive set of criteria outlined below. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed during early 2016.

FINAL EVALUATION AND DECISION

Awardees will be invited to present their projects at the 7th UNAOC Global Forum. The final decision of the international jury of experts regarding the ranking of award recipients will be announced during the Awards Ceremony at the UNAOC Global Forum

UNAOC strongly encourage applicants to apply early, in order to minimize the risk of last minute applications. Incomplete submissions will not be considered

SHORT-LISTING NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2015

The pre-selection committee will select a shortlist of a maximum of 50 applicants.

Short-listed applicants will be required to provide further documentation including a

detailed budget and a detailed activity plan of the project (using templates to be

provided).

EVALUATION : JANUARY 2016

An international jury composed of renowned scholars, experts, and members of the

BMW Group and the UNAOC will evaluate short-listed applications.

INTERVIEWS : LATE JANUARY/EARLY FEBRUARY 2016

AWARDS CEREMONY : APRIL/MAY 2016

The Top 10 finalists will be invited to present their projects at the 7th UNAOC Global Forum. The final results (i.e ranking of finalists) will be announced during the Awards Ceremony at the Global Forum.

The 2014 BMW Group/ UNAOC Intercultural Innovation Award – 100,500 USD in Prizes.

The Intercultural Innovation Award is a partnership between the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the BMW Group, with the aim to strengthen their commitment to encouraging cultural diversity and coexistence among communities.

The Award searches for innovative and sustainable projects around the world that are promoting dialogue and cooperation among people from different cultural backgrounds using novel and creative methods.

Eligibility Criteria:

Projects implemented by non-for-profit organization such as a non-governmental organization, charitable organization, research and educational institution, labor union, indigenous group, faith-based organization, professional association, foundation and local or municipal branches of government.
Applying organizations must have been operational for a minimum of 2 year before August 28, 2014; with funding base and project implementation.
Applying organization’s field of action must fall within at least one of the following thematic clusters: migration and integration; intercultural awareness; education for intercultural citizenship; the role of specific groups (faith-based; women; youth; media) in promoting intercultural understanding.
The applying organization must have the willingness to expand the range of action of the project with the UNAOC, the BMW Group and other partners.
Organizations that have previously received any UNAOC recognition are not eligible to apply to the Intercultural Innovation Award.

The Award:

The Intercultural Innovation Award is bestowed upon ten organizations every year.
A total of 100,500 USD is offered to the awardees, of which 40,000 USD goes to the winning project.
Winners will become members of the World Intercultural Facility for Innovation (WIFI) and the awardees get one-year support and consulting from the UNAOC and the BMW Group.
The top ten finalists will be invited to present their projects at the 6th UNAOC Global Forum in August 2014 in Bali, Indonesia.
The WIFI, a program initiated by the UNAOC in cooperation with the BMW Group, helps winners to become more efficient and to expand.
