Chevening UK Government Scholarships Programme 2019/2020 for Study in the United Kingdom (Fully Funded)

Chevening is the UK Government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders. Funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and partner organisations, Chevening offers two types of award – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships – the recipients of which are personally selected by British embassies and high commissions throughout the world.

Chevening offers a unique opportunity for future leaders and influencers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for a Chevening Award you must:

Be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country
Return to your country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after your award has ended
Have an undergraduate degree that will enable you to gain entry onto a postgraduate programme at a UK university. This is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honours degree in the UK.
Have at least two years’ work experience (this may be up to five years for fellowship programmes, so please refer to your country page for further details)
Apply to three different eligible UK university courses and have received an unconditional offer from one of these choices by 11 July 2019
Meet the Chevening English language requirement by 11 July 2019

English Language Requirement:

In order to receive a Chevening Award, all applicants must demonstrate that they have fulfilled the Chevening English language requirement by 11 July 2019. We advise all applicants to ensure they have fulfilled the English language requirement as early as possible by either:

Taking an English language test
Claiming an exemption based on the UKVI exempt categories

If you fail to demonstrate that you have met the required English language level by 11 July 2019 or fail to prove that you qualify for an exemption, your application will not be successful.

English language tests

You are free to take tests more than once in order to meet the Chevening English language requirement. Please note that Chevening does not pay for costs associated with English language testing. You are responsible for booking and paying for costs associated with these tests.

Chevening accepts English language tests from five providers:

Academic IELTS
Pearson PTE Academic
TOEFL iBT
C1 Advanced (formerly Cambridge English: Advanced [CAE])
Trinity ISE II (B2)

The English language test must have been taken from one of these providers on or after 1 October 2017. If you do not already have an existing eligible test certificate, it is your responsibility to ensure that you have booked a test date so that you can obtain the required results.

Courses:

Choose your three courses carefully. You will not be able to change your course choices after submitting your application, unless you are granted permission to do so at the interview stage. You will need to apply separately to your selected courses directly via the university. To be awarded a scholarship, you must get an unconditional offer for one of your course choices by 11 July 2019.

Applicants will need to select three different master’s courses. These can be three different courses at the same institution, or three similar courses across up to three different universities.

In order to be eligible, the courses you choose must be:

Full-time
Start in the autumn term (usually September/October)
Taught master’s (i.e. not research-focused MRes programmes)
Lead to a master’s degree qualification
Based in the UK

Courses cannot be:

Distance learning
Part-time
Less than nine months in duration
More than 12 months in duration
PhD or DPhil are not permitted
Taught with more than one month of study outside the UK

Scholarship Worth:

Required documents

Prior to starting your application for a Chevening Scholarship please ensure you have the following ready:

Valid passport/national ID card
University transcripts and degree certificates (undergraduate, postgraduate)
Three different UK master’s course choices
Names of two referees who know you in a professional or academic capacity

Rhodes Trust Scholarships 2018 for Kenyans to study at the University of Oxford – UK (Fully Funded)

The Rhodes Scholarship is administered by the Rhodes Trust, Oxford, United Kingdom. Scholarships are awarded in 20 Rhodes constituencies ( 64 different countries) around the world. Selection Committees for the Rhodes Scholarship are looking for outstanding leaders who are motivated to engage with global challenges, to ‘esteem the performance of public

duties as their highest aim’, and to promote international understanding and peace. In short, Selection Committees seek young women and men of outstanding intellect, character, leadership, and commitment to service, and who demonstrate a strong propensity to emerge as ‘leaders for the world’s future’.

Eligibility Requirements:

Nationality/citizenship : You must be a citizen of Kenya. Candidates with dual citizenship may not apply to more than one of the Rhodes constituencies .
Residency: You must have been resident in Kenya for at least five of the last ten years.
Age: You must have reached your 19th and not have passed your 25th birthday on 1 October 2018, which means you must have been born after 30 September 1993 and on or before 1 October 1999. Exceptions, extending the upper age limit by no more than 2 years, may be made for students who have undertaken an undergraduate degree of five years or more, at the discretion of the National Secretary. In such cases, exceptions will only be considered for applicants born after 30 September 1991 and on or before 1 October 1999.
Academic achievement: You must have completed (or will have completed by the summer of 2018) an undergraduate degree from a university (normally a Bachelor’s degree) with a First or Upper Second class standard (ie an average core of 69%/GPA 3.7 or higher). In this respect, please note carefully the requirements for your chosen course at Oxford.

Application Procedure

a. Candidates may apply online from 1 June 2017 at http://www.rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk via the scholarship tab. Queries in this regard should be directed to the National Secretary.

b. You must submit your application online, with all supporting documents, by 23:59, local time, 31 August 2017.

c. In preparation for making their application, all candidates should read carefully the general information for candidates on the Rhodes website, the Conditions of Tenure for the Rhodes Scholarship, the information in this document and the graduate admissions pages of the University of Oxford: www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/graduate.

d. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview in Nairobi in November

2017. No candidate will be selected without interview. You must be available to attend the interview, in person, as no accommodations can be made on date and time of interview.

e. Candidates who do not receive further communication by 31 October

should assume that their application has not been successful

Selection Procedure

a. Selection for the Rhodes Scholarship is made without any regard to financial means.

b. If you have dual citizenship, you may apply to one constituency only.

c. Selection for the Rhodes Scholarship is made without regard to marital status, race, ethnic origin, colour, gender, religion, sexual orientation, social background, disability, caste or other irrelevant distinction.

d. The Rhodes Scholarship for which you are applying is for entry to Oxford in October

2018 and may not be deferred.

e. The Rhodes Scholarship is confirmed only upon successful admission to the University of Oxford.

f. If there is no suitable candidate in any given year, the Selection Committee will not select.

g. The decision of the Selection Committee is final.

Masters Scholarships

UK Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme 2013/2014. (Masters Scholarship to Study in the UK)

The Commonwealth Shared Scholarships, set up by the Department for International Development (DFID) in 1986, represent a unique partnership between the United Kingdom government and UK universities. To date, more than 3,500 students from developing Commonwealth countries have been awarded Shared Scholarships.

Without these awards they would not otherwise have been able to benefit from UK higher education.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships are for taught Master’s courses only. All courses undertaken must be demonstrably relevant to the economic, social or technological development of the candidate’s home country. Awards are available at participating institutions in the UK only.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships prospectus 2013 – includes full details of the UK institutions offering Shared Scholarships in 2013. A hard copy of the prospectus can be obtained from the Shared Scholarship scheme administrators.

Please note that participating universities are required to support the student stipend for the award holder (at the rate set by the UK government). The CSC funds the cost of tuition fees (at overseas rate), return airfares, and other allowances.

Former Shared Scholars’ views

Eligibility

Applicants must:

be nationals of (or permanently domiciled in) a developing Commonwealth country, and not currently be living or studying in a developed country (please see the Commonwealth Shared Scholarships prospectus 2013 for a list of eligible countries)
hold a first degree at either first or upper second class level
be sufficiently fluent in English to pursue the course
have not previously studied for one year or more in a developed country
be able to confirm in writing that neither they or their families would otherwise be able to pay for the proposed course of study
be willing to confirm that they will return to their home country as soon as their period of study is complete

Scholarship value:

DFID and participating United Kingdom institutions will jointly meet the full costs of an award holder’s study in the United Kingdom including air fares to and from the United Kingdom. Maintenance allowance is paid by the scholar’s host institution, at the level set by the UK Government: £1,134 per month for scholars based in London and £917 per month for the rest of the UK. (July 2012 figures).

A grant of up to £225 to cover thesis (Master’s) costs is available; also available is £200 for study travel. The cost of up to 10 Kilograms of excess baggage (books only) is available for scholars returning home at the end of their awards. No additional allowances are paid for spouses or other dependents.

Fields of study:

Shared Scholarship Scheme Awards are offered only for subjects relating to the economic, social and technological development of a candidate’s country. Additional details of the eligible courses (or departments) offered by the institutions is found at the 2013 Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Prospectus.

Participating Institutions:

For 2013, 62 universities from the United Kingdom will be participating in the Commonwealth Shared Scholarship- to support the scholarships by contributing the stipend for the students from their own resources,or those which the university has been able to generate from elsewhere.

How to apply

All enquiries should be addressed to the university at which you wish to study and through which you should therefore apply for a Shared Scholarship, not to the CSC. The university will advise you on eligibility issues and how to make an application. There are two options:

Option 1
Most universities will handle advertising and recruitment directly using their own application form, and you should therefore apply to the university direct. Following their closing date for applications, the university will ask those candidates which it selects to complete the CSC’s application form using our Electronic Application System (EAS). Please note that candidates must complete their application via the EAS by 16 April 2013 at the latest, in order to be nominated to the CSC by their host university.

Option 2
Some universities request all of their Shared Scholarship candidates to apply via the CSC’s Electronic Application System (EAS). You will be advised by the institution if this is the case, and should then access the EAS once it is open for Shared Scholarship applications by the end of October 2012. Applications must be submitted in time to meet the university’s own deadline, which will be made clear in the EAS and is listed in the Commonwealth Shared Scholarships prospectus. (Where a university has not specified a closing date, you should contact the institution to ascertain the latest date that applications will be accepted).

All institutions are asked to forward their nominations to the CSC no later than 30 April 2013 using the EAS.
