World Economic Forum on Africa 2016 Search for top African Female Innovators & Entrepreneurs.

  • The top five entrepreneurs selected by the Forum’s judging panel will be invited to participate in the World Economic Forum on Africa on 11-13 May in Kigali, Rwanda

The World Economic Forum has launched a search to identify Africa’s next generation of top female innovators and entrepreneurs.

The World Economic Forum has launched a search for Africa’s top female innovators, with the aim of bringing the brightest and best of them to its annual World Economic Forum on Africa meeting, which takes place this year on 11-13 May in Kigali, Rwanda.

The challenge to find Africa’s top female innovators is open not only to technology entrepreneurs: budding fashion designers, retailers, farmers or anyone else who has demonstrated a track record in deploying innovative technology or business models, as well as having given something back to society along the way, is encouraged to register for the challenge.

“Africa’s best resource is its people and the best way to empower a new generation of wealth and job creators is to create an environment where these people can flourish. We have launched a challenge to identify Africa’s top women innovators because we know that the female half of the population in particular needs champions and role models,” said Elsie Kanza, Head of Africa, World Economic Forum.

  • The Forum will invite the five best entrepreneurs, selected by a panel of experts, to the World Economic Forum on Africa, which will take place on 11-13 May in Kigali, Rwanda, where they will be able to meet top leaders from across business, government and civil society as well as potential investors.

Eager to shape new justice innovations that help the lives of people and businesses? Join the Forum on the 3rd and 4th of December 2015 at the Peace Palace in The Hague!

The Innovating Justice Forum is a two-day international event in The Hague catering to more than 150 participants. It is held annually by HiiL Innovating Justice to discuss and support innovative ways of approaching justice worldwide.

The Forum has in the past centered on issues such as Living Wages (2014), Human Rights (2013) and Basic Justice Care for Everyone (2012). Other thought-provoking issues are always part of the agenda. This year, HiiL will highlight the State of Innovation and the justice needs of SMEs in East and West Africa.

The Innovating Justice Forum is a unique event that connects innovators, investors, entrepreneurs, private companies, governments, NGOs, academics and foundations. Among the many organisations represented are, for example, national Parliaments, Cordaid, Oxfam, Supreme Courts, Microsoft, Ministries of Justice and Foreign Affairs, OECD, USAID, World Bank and the World Economic Forum.

    HiiL Innovating Justice, together with the Global Agenda Council on Justice and the Ford Foundation, has embarked on a pioneering new endeavor to accelerate justice ventures in East and West Africa.

  • The SME Empowerment Innovation Challenge is geared towards finding and strengthening new initiatives that can empower startups and SMEs. The Forum want to support the best innovations and address regulatory hurdles and bureaucratic red tape faced by youth-led startups in East and West Africa.

  •  Benefits

    The winners of the SME Empowerment Innovation Challenge will be announced at the Innovating Justice Forum on 3 & 4 December 2015. The three winners will receive the Innovating Justice Awards.

    Prior to the Forum, the innovators will be personally prepared to pitch their innovation. HiiL and Next2Company connect the finalists to potential partners to accelerate their business.

    The winners of the SME Empowerment Innovation Challenge can win up to $70,000 in seed funding.

  • The innovators present their innovation to an international audience, gain international recognition, and have the opportunity to win seed investments.

    First place: $40,000
    Second place: $20,000
    Third place: $10,000

Innovating Justice Boostcamp Lagos

In October 2015, HiiL will host an Innovating Justice Boostcamp in Lagos. Speakers will share their insights. Incubation sessions will boost the progress of the attending innovators. Innovators receive coaching and pitch their innovations.

Six innovators will be invited to the Boostcamp – three winners of the online campaign and three wildcard nominations. The six innovators will be hosted in the same accommodation so that they can continue to work together, exchange lessons learned and share opportunities during the rest of their three day stay.

The winners of these challenges receive the Innovating Justice Awards 2015. They will have access to an international network, to build international partnerships and learn from other attendants at the Forum.

Online campaign

From 1 to 17 September 2015 innovations will campaign online on www.innovatingjustice.com. The top three of the online campaign will be invited to the Innovating Justice Boostcamp in Lagos. Three wildcards will also be invited.

World Economic Forum Global Leadership Fellowship Programme 2013 ( successful Fellows receive a Master’s degree in Global Leadership).

The Global Leadership Fellows Programme combines a full-time job in one of our Senior Community Manager positions at the Forum with an intensive work and learning experience that is run in collaboration with Partner Universities. After three years, successful Fellows receive a Master’s degree in Global Leadership.

The World Economic Forum is looking for outstanding individuals, who demonstrate a high level of energy and strong commitment to its mission, to take up positions within its Global Leadership Fellows Programme.

The programme is dedicated to developing the next generation of world leaders – well-rounded professionals who feel equally at home in the public and private sector. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected, the once well-defined line between the two sectors continues to blur, making it difficult for any one organization to act effectively in isolation. To succeed in such an environment, organizations – both private and public – must often align numerous stakeholders to most efficiently approach problems, develop strategies and capitalize on opportunities.

 

How can I apply for the Global Leadership Fellows Programme?

Please apply online through the careers section of  the World Economic Forum website (www.weforum.org/careers). You can apply to any position marked “Global Leadership Fellows” under the title “job category”. In addition to filling in the online application form, you will be requested to submit a résumé, the contact details of three references and an 800-word personal essay on what you would like to achieve in your life and on your motivations for joining the GLFP.

When is the deadline?
There is no deadline for applications to the GLFP, as job openings are posted all year round. As a result, there are no pre-determined interview periods. Should you be selected for a GLF position, you will be able to start working immediately and will integrate the academic modules into your schedule. These begin in the autumn following your recruitment.

What academic qualifications do I need to become a Global Leadership Fellow?
You will possess a broad intellectual background with a Master’s degree (or equivalent). More information can be found on the career section of our website (www.weforum.org/careers), under the positions marked “Global Leadership Fellows”.

Can I apply if I have not yet completed my Master’s degree?
Yes. However, the completion date of your studies should be in advance of the start of the academic modules of the GLFP. Given that these modules begin in November, you should have completed your studies before then. You may be asked to submit proof of graduation.

Is there a cap on the age of Global Leadership Fellows?
The majority of our Fellows fall within the ages of 28 and 38, with an average age of 33.

What are the language requirements for the job?
All candidates must be fluent in spoken and written English. Additional language requirements are specific to the position. It should be noted that the majority of our Fellows are fluent in at least one language other than English, even if their job does not explicitly request it.
