The Women’s Peace & Humanitarian Fund is excited to announce its latest call for proposals in Nigeria to strengthen the political and economic participation of women affected by forced displacement.

WPHF seeks to fund qualifying local organizations and projects led by and working alongside forcibly displaced women in Nigeria that are high impact, innovative and contribute directly to the following objectives:

  1. Promote improved socio-economic recovery and political participation of women and girls in peacebuilding contexts;
  2. Reinforce the institutional capacity of civil society organizations working on women and girls in forced displacement.

This call for proposals makes available financing for local civil society organizations in Nigeria through two primary funding streams:

  • Funding Stream 1: Institutional funding from 2,500 USD to 30,000 USD

To provide institutional financing to local civil society organizations working with women and girls in forced displacement, aiming to reinforce the institutional capacity of their organizations.

  1. Funding Stream 2: Programmatic funding from 30,000 USD to 200,000 USD

To finance projects that implement programmatic activities aligned with WPHF Outcome 6 (above) contributing to enhanced socio-economic recovery and the political participation of women and girls in peacebuilding settings.

PLEASE NOTE: AN ORGANIZATION CAN ONLY APPLY ONCE, EITHER TO ONE OR BOTH STREAMS. ORGANIZATIONS WHO CHOOSE TO APPLY FOR BOTH STREAMS WILL NEED TO SUBMIT TWO APPLICATION PACKAGES BASED ON THE REQUIREMENTS AND RELATED TEMPLATES OF EACH STREAM.

Women’s Peace & Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) Call for Proposal: COVID-19 Emergency Response

The Women’s Peace & Humanitarian Fund is now accepting applications for the WPHF COVID-19 Emergency Response Window.

Apply for new funding opportunities that support your local civil-society organization in its efforts to respond to the COVID-19 global pandemic. We seek to fund qualifying projects of local women’s organizations that contribute to responding to COVID-19 in crises settings.

The WPHF COVID-19 Emergency Response Window is divided into 2 funding streams:

Funding Stream 1: Institutional funding: from 2,500 USD to 30,000 USD

This funding stream will provide institutional funding to local civil society organizations working on women, peace and security and humanitarian issues to ensure they are able to sustain themselves through the crisis. Prospective applicants will need to demonstrate how the current crisis affects their institutional and financial capacities and how the funding would support them through the pandemic.

Funding Stream 2: Programmatic funding: from 30,000 USD to 200,000 USD

This funding stream will finance projects which aim specifically to provide gender-responsive response to the COVID19 crisis. Interventions could include, but are not limited to:

  • Strengthening the leadership and meaningful participation of women and girls in all decision-making processes in addressing the COVID-19 outbreak.
  • Mobilizing of women’s organizations at community level to ensure that public health education messages on risk and prevention strategies are reaching all women (including through community radio, the use of technology, etc.).
  • Supporting women who will be most economically affected by the crisis, namely daily wage earners, small business owners and those working in informal sectors. This could be done through cash transfers, community funds and support to women-led small businesses.
  • Restoring and strengthening access to sexual and reproductive health services, including pre-and post-natal care.
  • Supporting prevention and response to GBV, including through safe shelters but also campaigns on social norms targeting male engagement in domestic work and combatting domestic violence.

Civil-society organizations in all 25 WPHF eligible countries are qualified to apply.

Call for Proposals: Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund& Spotlight Initiative

The Women’s Peace & Humanitarian Fund is excited to announce its first call for proposal in Nigeria. Apply for new funding opportunities that support your local women’s civil-society organization.

WPHF seeks to fund qualifying projects in Nigeria that are high impact, innovative, and contribute directly to the following objectives:

  • Influence and advance progress on gender equality and women’s empowerment (GEWE) and ending violence against women and girls (EVAWG), including sexual and gender based violence / harmful practices (SGBV/HP)
  • Enhance women and girls’ safety, security and human rights

The Initiative’s Global Theory of Change entails a comprehensive approach to drive transformative change through the following six Outcomes/Pillars:

•Outcome 1: Enacting and strengthening legislative and policy frameworks
•Outcome 2: Building gender-responsive national and sub-national systems and institutions
•Outcome 3: Supporting evidence-based prevention programmes to promote gender equitable social norms, attitudes and behaviors
•Outcome 4: Establishing and strengthening available, accessible, acceptable, and quality essential services
•Outcome 5: Ensuring quality, disaggregated and globally comparable data
•Outcome 6: Strengthening and supporting women’s rights groups and autonomous civil society organizations

Requirements:

National and local women-led, or women’s rights-focused civil society organizations based in/have ongoing activities in Northeast Nigeria (specifically Borno and Yobe States) are eligible to apply.

Women’s grassroots/local/community-based organizations are particularly encouraged to apply. Joint CSOs projects are allowed and encouraged.Women’s funds areparticularlyencouraged to apply to expand the reach of the funding to a broader cross-section of civil society

Nature and scope of the Call for Proposals

The WPHF, in partnership with the Spotlight initiative, will fund qualifying projects in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria and Uganda.

The projects mustfocus on onecountry. Multi-country projects will NOT be accepted.As the Spotlight Initiative will be funding simultaneous calls for proposals launched through both the WPHF and the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women (EVAW Trust Fund) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Nigeria and Uganda, applicants should carefully note the following:

-Organizations may apply either to the WPHF or the UN EVAW Trust Fund, but not both. Organizations that apply to both Funds will be disqualified.
-The WPHF will fund applications for grants of between USD20,000 andUSD200,000 in the aforementioned countries
-Organizations applying for grants between USD200,001 and USD1 million should apply only to the UN EVAW Trust Fund

Application Procedure:

The deadline for submission of proposals is August 23, 2019.

Applications received after that date will not be considered.

The Secretariat will answer all questions from prospective applicants on 30 July 2019 and 01 August 2019 during an Open Day session at UNW in Maiduguri and Damaturu respectively.
