The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) Bursary Awards 2024 for young South Africans.

The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) intends to award comprehensive bursaries to qualifying applicants pursuing and/or intending to further their studies in identified careers in the agriculture, land reform and rural development sector for the 2024 academic year. The bursary will cover tuition, accommodation, books, meals and monthly allowance. The bursary awards target the previously disadvantaged and impoverished persons from poverty-stricken and rural communities.

Requirements

Applicants must be South African citizens.

  • Applicants must complete the relevant bursary application forms available from the website address: www.dalrrd.gov.za (Click on vacancies).
  • Applicants who apply for fields of study that are not listed above will not be considered.
  • Please note that communication will be limited to successful applicants only. If you have not received any communication from the
    department within 14 days after the release of Grade 12 results and after the National Bursary Committee has finalised the selection process, consider your application unsuccessful.
  • The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development reserves the right to determine the total number of bursary allocations
    for the academic year based on the total budget available.
  • No late application forms will be considered.
  • Applicants who are not in possession of their University acceptance letter or Final results can submit their application while waiting for the said documents.
  • All completed bursary application forms together with certified copies of ID and certificates/performance results should be sent to ONLY ONE

Call for Applications

Africa Agri-Food Development Programme 2018/2019 for agri food companies in Africa.

The Africa Agri-Food Development Programme (AADP) is a joint initiative between the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Objective of the AADP is to develop partnerships between the Irish Agri-Food Sector and African countries to support sustainable growth of the local food industry, build markets for local produce and support mutual trade between Ireland and Africa.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The partners involved must include one Irish registered agri food company and one local commercial entity in Africa;
  • All proposed projects must be commercial in nature and focus. Funding will only be awarded to Irish registered agri food companies.
  • AADP funding is up to a maximum of €250,000 per company for a full project or €100,000 for a feasibility study.
  • AADP funding will not exceed 50% of the costs of the project;
  • The funds contributed by the Irish registered agri food company must not comprise funding received from any other Irish Public funding source.
  • If an applicant company was previously successful in applying for AADP funding, it must explain clearly (in the application form) the new project goals/outcomes and how they differ from those in the initial funding round.
  • If an applicant company proposes to undertake a feasibility study, it should include a list of ‘potential’ partners with the application.
  • Projects will be supported in the following countries – Botswana, Cóte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia;
    • Funding from the AADP must bring about additionality and not replace existing funding;
    • Successful AADP funding applicants will be encouraged to engage with Irish NGOs where possible on various aspects of the projects i.e. Mechanical and Engineering, Project design, etc.

Evaluation Criteria – Full Project

  • Sustainable Development Impact (Economic, Social and Environmental)
  • Intervention logic and commercial viability
  • Company experience and expertise
  • Project Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Analysis of risk, context and possible externalities

The forms must be completed by the Irish applicant company and submitted to [email protected]. The closing date for the receipt of applications is 5.00pm on Friday, 30 November 2018.

Department of Agriculture, Forestry & Fisheries South Africa Internship/Traineeship/Young Professional Programme 2016.

The Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries presents exciting opportunities/positions for the unemployed youth through its Experiential Training,Internship, and the Young Professional Development Programme.

Successful applicants will undergo on-the-job development training in technical, professional, public service, business and life skills relevant and crucial for them to enter the formal job market.

The opportunities/positions presented are categorised as follows:

Young Professional Development Programme (Ref: YPDP/01/2016)

This category of opportunities calls for young graduates in possession of a requisite bachelor’s degree in agriculture, forestry or fisheries who would like to further their studies at B/Tech, Honours, Masters or Ph.D. levels.

Successful candidates will be expected to sign an internship contract with the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Candidates will be placed with the relevant industry/research institution, will be allocated a mentor and will receive a monthly allowance from the department.

Candidates applying for this category must motivate on a separate page (not less than 300 words) why they think they should be considered for this programme and indicate the proposed fields of study for 2016, as well as the institution where they intend to study.

Successful candidates will be linked with funded research projects of the department. (20 interns)

Agri-export Technologists Programme (AETP/02/2016)

  • This category of opportunities calls for qualified unemployed graduates in possession of a 3-year (minimum) national qualification in one of the following fields: Agricultural Sciences, Food Technology or Environmental Health to participate in the Young Agricultural Export Technologists Programme to gain both the practical experience and employment in the perishable products export industry of South Africa.
  • Successful candidates will be placed with relevant industry organisations under the guidance and leadership of the Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB).
  • Candidates applying for this category must motivate on a separate page (not less than 300 words) why they think they should be considered for this programme and will be subjected to further adjudication by the PPECB for final selection.
  • Successful candidates will sign an internship contract with the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and will be entitled to a monthly allowance.
  • Applicants must be entering the internship programme in government for the first time. (25 interns)
Employment/job seekers
  • This category of opportunities calls for qualified unemployed graduates in fields of study required by the Department of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.
  • Applicants for this category must be between the ages of 18 and 35. Applicants must apply to a specific directorate in the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries
  • The period of participation in this category is 12 months and applicants must be entering the internship programme in government for the first time

Experiential Training

  • The candidates applying for this category are those currently registered for undergraduate study programmes in agriculture, forestry and fisheries and are required to do experiential training for them to attain a degree/diploma.
  • Applicants must have a referral letter from the institution of higher learning.
  • Applicants must apply to a specific directorate in the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries using the reference number as indicated in the table below.

Specific requirements

Applicants for the experiential training and job seekers categories will be allocated in the directorates/functional units listed in the table below and must be entering the internship programme in government for the first time.
