Allan Gray Orbis Fellowship Programme 2020 for young South Africans (Grade 6 Students)

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation offers quality education from one of South Africa’s top achieving partner high schools to students who are in financial need, have a curious entrepreneurial mindset, and have the potential to excel academically.

Scholarship Application Requirements & Process

Applicant must be a current grade 6 learner in year of application
Applicant must be a South African citizen
Candidates must not be older than 12 years of age and not younger than 11 years of age in grade 6
Applicant must demonstrate financial need
Applicant must obtain a minimum of 70 % for English and Mathematics
Applicant must obtain a minimum of 70% average for remaining subjects
Submit hard copy of your application form and supporting documentation or apply online
Successful applicant will be required to write the Foundation exam in Mathematics and English for Grade 6
After the Foundation exam, successful candidates will be invited for interviews
Recommended candidates will be invited to the placement schools for interviews.
Candidates whose recommendations are approved by the placement schools will be awarded the Scholarship
Once the Scholarship is awarded, the Foundation, placement school and the Scholar’s custodian sign a Memorandum of Agreement

Allan Gray Orbis Foundation High School Scholarships 2019/2020 for young South Africans (Fully Funded)

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation invests in the education and development of individuals with entrepreneurial potential within Southern Africa. The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation do so because we believe that these curious, driven and responsibly minded young people are capable of significantly, positively and permanently impacting the economic lives of the communities, cities and possibly even the country they operate in.

The Foundation takes a holistic approach to entrepreneurship development and there are three critical aspects: the person in whom we cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset, the practice of developing entrepreneurial skills and competencies and the context of understanding the African and global ecosystems.

Overview

The Foundation offers high school Scholarships to learners who are in financial need, have a curious, entrepreneurial mindset and the potential to excel academically.

Scholarship recipients, known as Allan Gray Orbis Scholars, receive funding for high school in addition to access to support and programmes to develop their entrepreneurial talents. We aim to develop a community of young, entrepreneurially minded leaders so that our Scholars have the opportunity to go to university through the Fellowship Programme.

The Scholarship Programme focuses on the cultivation of an entrepreneurial mindset, personal mastery and academic excellence. We believe an entrepreneurial mindset will enable our Scholars to attain academic success and effective personal leadership.

Requirements:

This Scholarship is offered in three countries, however the models differ in each country.

South Africa – The Scholarship is available to learners entering high school. Learners in Grade 6 may apply.

Botswana / Swaziland – This Scholarship is available to Grade 12 learners who need a post-Matric to gain access to a South African University. Please apply through the Fellowship page.

Benefits:

The Scholarship programme provides access to quality high school education. Allan Gray Orbis Foundation aim to establish passion in the selected Scholars and develop their potential to become self-starting, high-impact entrepreneurs.

The Scholarship covers the following:

  • Full tuition and boarding fees
  • A monthly allowance (pocket money)
  • A travel subsidy
  • Stationery and prescribed books
  • Toiletries, school uniforms and casual clothing
  • Support for extra-mural activities

Scholars also have access to an entrepreneurial development programme. This ensures their continued progress by providing additional leadership and entrepreneurial development opportunities.

University Fellowships to develop Southern Africa’s future responsible entrepreneurs

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation believes that building entrepreneurs is the best way to create a prosperous, happy and fair future for South Africa. Requirements:

  • The Fellowship application is open to learners and students from South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Swaziland.
  • The Fellowship selection team aims to correctly select talented individuals from the Southern African region so that the Fellowship is awarded to individuals that are most able to leverage this opportunity.
  • The Fellowship selection team specifically focuses on attracting eligible applicants using effective assessment tools and rigorous and reliable processes to make sure that eligible candidates are fairly assessed and that the correct decisions are made.

How to Apply

  • Interested applicants can apply for the Fellowship opportunity during their Grade 12 school year or during their first year of university.
  • Fellowship applicants need to fulfill the criteria indicated below:

Fellowship Applicants need to be able to show a track record of leadership or being entrepreneurially minded. The Foundation’s framework to measure this as follows:

  • Personal Initiative: A person who makes things happen and celebrates the satisfaction of bringing new things into being. Independent, proactive and self-starting
