Every year the TED Fellows program selects a new group of extraordinary, multidisciplinary individuals by open application. TED look for innovators on the rise in their respective fields who are doing bold, original work. The TED Fellows program is currently accepting applications for the 2022 TED Fellowship. 

Requirements

  • The TED Fellows Program recognizes the folks working on-the-ground on world-changing ideas — the doers, makers, inventors, advocates, filmmakers and photographers, musicians and artists, educators, scientists, entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, and human rights activists. If you’re at work on a future-shaping idea and over the age of 18, you should apply.
  • The TED Fellows program is not an academic fellowship and non-traditional educations are welcome.
  • In addition to impressive accomplishment, fine character and a good heart are also important traits we look for in TED Fellows.

Benefits

  • Once selected, TED Fellows receive transformational support. The program offers them TED’s power to help articulate and amplify their vision. The program supports TED Fellows’ with the individual capacity-building required to take the global stage.
  • TED equip TED Fellows with public speaking and media training, professional coaching, educational programming and connect them to a global network of peers and industry leaders.

The selection process

TED Fellows are selected by the program staff, with extensive reference checking, fact checking and consultation with experts across all fields.

Your written application is central to our selection process. We read every application and encourage you to read our tips for applying before submitting your application. These tips are a guide to what we’re looking for when we review your application.

Applicants may receive requests for additional information from our team. But unless we reach out to you, we require no further information from you.

Ultimately, there is no algorithm for how we select our TED Fellows. We select Fellows based on their accomplishments in their respective fields, the potential impact of their work and also their character. The ideal applicant is collaborative in their pursuits and in their nature, and is at a moment in their career to maximize the support of the TED community.

Eligibility

  • TED look for different applicants than many other leadership-oriented programs. Instead of business people, policy wonks and government officials, the TED Fellows program focuses on doers, makers, inventors, advocates, filmmakers and photographers, musicians and artists, scientists, entrepreneurs, NGO heads, and human rights activists.
  • In addition to impressive accomplishment, fine character and a good heart are also important traits we look for in TED Fellows. More than anything, this focus on character has defined the success of the TED Fellows program.

Requirements

  • An idea worth spreading!
  • A completed online application consisting of general biographical information, short paragraphs on your work and three references. (It’s fun, and it’ll make you think…)
  • You must be at least 18 years old to apply.
  • You must be fluent in English.
  • You must be excited to participate in a collaborative, interdisciplinary global community.
  • You must be available May 29–June 4, 2021.

Benefits

  • You become part of a diverse, collaborative and global community of more than 500 emerging and established experts.
  • You receive professional development through virtual workshops and webinars.
  • You gain valuable feedback from TED’s expert coaches on how to hone, express and communicate your work and your ideas.
  • You will give a TED Talk (at a virtual or live event, depending on the state of the global pandemic).
  • You’ll receive career coaching and mentorship from our team of professional coaches.
  • You’ll get public relations guidance and media training.
  • You’ll participate in virtual programming for TED Fellows.
  • You will have the opportunity to participate in and contribute to a thriving and connected global community.
  • You will get a possible invitation to attend the special TEDMonterey conference in Monterey, California. (Note: while we are currently planning on an in-person conference in Monterey [May 29–June 4, 2021], given the global pandemic this conference may be cancelled and the TED Fellowship may become entirely virtual. This will depend on expert advice and local health safety protocols.)

  • TED are currently planning to invite our next class to an in-person conference in Monterey (May 29- June 4, 2021), given the global pandemic this conference may be canceled and the TED Fellowship may become entirely virtual, depending on expert advice and local health safety protocols. As always, the process of Fellows preparing their TED Talks with the TED Fellows team will be done virtually through online meetings, as well as additional Fellows programming.

Requirements:

TED is looking for different applicants than many other leadership-oriented programs. Instead of business people, professionals, policy wonks and government officials, the TED Fellows program focuses on doers, makers, inventors, advocates, filmmakers and photographers, musicians and artists, scientists, entrepreneurs, NGO heads, and human rights activists.

In addition to impressive accomplishment, fine character and a good heart are also important traits we look for in TED Fellows. More than anything, this focus on character has defined the success of the TED Fellows program.

Benefits:

Fellows work with the team on a four-minute TEDtalk in the months leading up to the conference. TED pays for round-trip economy airfare, ground transportation to and from the conference location and meals and shared accommodation on site. Before the conference starts, Fellows participate in a pre-conference where they meet the other Fellows, participate in skill-building workshops, attend talk rehearsals and more.

Every year, the TED Fellows program selects a new class of extraordinary thinkers and doers by open application. We look for innovators on the rise in their respective fields with a bold, original approach to their work. All applicants must be 18 years or older.

TED is looking for individuals who have a proven track record of great work in their field and are on the brink of an incredible breakthrough, but need the extra support to get there. We are looking for individuals from all disciplines, and who have collaborative, kind personalities.

The TED Fellowship program has the potential to catapult your career forward. By attending and speaking at the TED conference, you’ll be given a platform to share your work and ideas far and wide, and you’ll meet individuals who can help your career. As a Fellow, you’ll also join the powerful global network of TED Fellows – innovators who may be future collaborators. TED Fellows Program 2017 for Extraordinary Thinkers and Doers.

Twice a year, the TED Fellows program opens applications to find a new class of extraordinary thinkers and doers. Though we target innovators aged 21 to 40, we encourage anyone over 18 years old to apply.

The TED Fellows program is a 400-person global network of makers and doers, a breeding ground of interdisciplinary collaboration that is making a positive impact on the world. The program is designed to catapult careers through services like coaching, mentorship, PR advice for sharing your latest projects and speaker training from a panel of experts. You’ll be a part of a tight-knit community that’s ripe for new ideas and collaborations. Plus, you’ll go to the 2017 TED Conference for free and even give a TED Talk.

Application cycle dates

Each year we open two application cycles: one for TED and one for TEDGlobal. Each application cycle has an opening and closing date – you may only apply to be a Fellow between the opening and closing dates. We do not accept applications during the dates that fall outside of the application cycle window.

Selection:

20 Fellows will be selected based not only on their accomplishments and the potential impact of their work, but also on their character. An ideal candidate is multidisciplinary-minded and collaborative and is ready to fully utilize the support of the TED community.

Twice a year, the TED Fellows program opens applications to find a new class of extraordinary thinkers and doers.

Twice a year, a group of interesting and impactful people gathers for the week-long TED experience — which attendees have described as “the ultimate brain spa” and “a journey into the future in the company of those creating it.” It’s a winning formula of brilliant, curious minds and groundbreaking content in an immersive and focused environment.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are collectively shaping our world. But a TED conference is broader still, showcasing important ideas from any discipline, and exploring how they all connect.

The format is fast-paced: 50+ talks over the course of a week, as well as morning and evening get-togethers. As they take in the program, attendees and speakers from vastly different fields can cross-fertilize and draw inspiration from unlikely places. This is the magic of TED.

TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a global set of conferences owned by the private non-profit Sapling Foundation, under the slogan: “Ideas Worth Spreading.

The TED Fellows program is designed to bring together young world-changers and trailblazers who have shown unusual accomplishment and exceptional courage. The program targets individuals from the Asia/Pacific region, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Middle East, though anyone from anywhere in the world, age 18 and over, is welcome to apply.
