Every year, Technovation invites teams of girls from all over the world to learn and apply the skills needed to solve real-world problems through technology.

Technovation Girls is a free technology-based program for girls ages 10 – 18.

Working in teams (of 1 to 5), girls find a problem in their community and build a mobile app to help solve it. Along the way, they develop their collaboration, problem-solving, and leadership skills. Technovation Girls will take 30+ hours to complete (we recommend allocated about 12 weeks to finish) and is completely free.

Eligibility

Any girl or young woman (ages 10-18) interested in Technovation Girls is eligible to compete.

To join our competition, a girl must create or join a team on our online platform, have a parent/guardian sign the consent form and meet the following Student Participation criteria:

All students must be between the ages of 10 to 18 as of August 1, 2020.
All students must identify as female. No males can enter the competition.
Teams are composed of 1 to 5 students. Students can only join 1 team.
Competition Divisions are based on the age of the oldest student on the team.
Students can participate in Technovation Girls for multiple seasons until they reach the age of 18
- Students can work with the same team members and mentors, but they cannot submit the materials to competition over multiple years.
- Teams can explore the same problem, but the app prototype must be different each year.

Timeline:

January 14, 2020: Official Start of 2020 Season
March 16, 2020:Last Day to Register as a student or mentor (All members of your team must have registered and joined your team)
March 23, 2020: Judge registration opens for volunteers who’d like to help choose the winners of our competition
April 20, 2020. 19:00 UTC : Competition Submission Deadline Mid-April – Mid-May, 2020: Regional Pitch Events & Online Judging
Early June, 2020: Semifinal Online Judging
August, 2020 – Technovation Global Summit

Global Technology Entrepreneurship Program for Girls

Every year, Technovation challenges girls all over the world to build a mobile app that will address a community problem. Since 2010, over 3,000 girls from 28 countries have submitted to Technovation, thanks to dedicated volunteers around the world.

Girls do not need to have programming experience to participate, and Technovation is free for any girl who wants to participate.

Participants.

Each Technovation Team includes from 1 to 5 participants. Teams consisting of more than 5 participants are ineligible for their respective division prizes.
Participants must be young women who are students enrolled in Primary or Secondary School on the day of the submission deadline.
University students are not eligible.
In addition to the Participants, Technovation Teams may also include one or more Technovation Teachers and Technovation Mentors.

App Theme.

The theme for 2016 is to create an app to address a community problem or issue. Teams will define the community issue as part of the curriculum steps before defining their solution.

Deliverables.

A complete submission from a team consists of the following items.

App source code (can be developed in Android, iOS, or Windows)
Up to 4-minute video pitch (upload to YouTube or Vimeo and share the link)
Up to 2-minute app demo video (upload to YouTube or Vimeo and share the link)
Business plan (pdf)
Team photo (with mentor and teacher included, if possible) for each team
100-word app description
Completion of post-survey

Deliverables must be submitted in English (or subtitled, in the case of videos), as the final stages of the judging process will be conducted by English-speaking judges.

World Pitch Finalist Selection.

World Pitch 2016 will feature a total of 10 finalists.
The exact breakdown of finalists has not been decided yet, but this section will be updated when that is finalized.
World Pitch events will take place during the week of July 10th-17th.
Finalists must attend World Pitch and present live in front of the judges in order to be eligible for the final prize.
Finalists unable to attend World Pitch forfeit their chance for the final prize.

Mobile App Platform.

Technovation encourages the use of MIT App Inventor for beginners to develop mobile app prototypes for Android devices.
However, final app submissions may be developed on any platform including iOS, Google Glass, and Windows phones. Submissions must be developed and designed for mobile devices.
