TakingITGlobal Stories from Syria Global Gallery Contest 2016 ($USD 600 Prize)

Due to the rise of a critically urgent issue concerning refugees in the Arab world, communities needs to come together to address the humanitarian crisis. As a way of showing support and encouraging solidarity we invite you to share your stories from Syria through creative artwork (Images or videos). These visual representations will not only be an opportunity to share stories with thousands of people around the world, but will also help inspire action from individuals, organizations, and policy-makers.

To participate in Stories from Syria, you are encouraged to create art pieces on the following themes:

  1. Images that reflect the current circumstances and crises that Syrian people and/or refugees are facing wherever they are.
  2. Images that reflect your memories of Syria and feelings towards this beautiful country. What does it remind you of? (the places you visited, the people, the food, special events, etc.)

The aim is to increase the awareness of the refugee crisis in the international community as well as document the beautiful memories that we would like to share and remember together.

Eligibility:

  • Prize winners must be 13-30 years old.

The plan is to curate an online collection that will be showcased at different events and exhibitions. With that in mind, please include a text description of up to 500 words with the image or video that you submit.

This artistic collaboration is part of the Touq Al Yasmin initiative that launched in 2016 with the support of TakingITGlobal and aims at raising global awareness of the current situation of Syrian refugees around the world as well as organizing different activities to support refugees.

Prize:

Prizes for selected submissions are as follows:

1st Prize: $ 300 USD

2nd Prize: $ 200 USD

3rd Prize: $ 100 USD

*Please note: 10% of each prize will be donated to an organization of the winners choice supporting Syrian Refugees. A list of suitable organizations will be provided to winners when selected.

  • When you hear the word belonging, what images come to mind?
  • What memories, feelings and life experiences have informed your personal sense of belonging?
  • How are young people today fostering a culture of belonging and inclusion within your community?

A sense of belonging is a human need, like the need for food and shelter and who we are is shaped by the people who we are connected to! Our communities thrive when people feel connected, welcomed, accepted for who they are and supported by those around us.

TakingITGlobal and the Samuel Family Foundation are interested in reflecting together on the theme of belonging in order to grow a global movement of fostering social connectedness.

In the past, geographic boundaries often defined our identities and communities. In a digital age, people are either feeling hyper connected or excluded from opportunities for meaningful connection.

TakingITGlobal invite your imagination, voice and perspective on depicting visual representations on the theme of belonging so that we tackle the issue of isolation together.

TakingITGlobal We See Things Differently Global Contest 2013.

We See Things Differently is a youth led, collaborative online campaign to collect and connect our stories, our visions and our efforts to remake the world within one generation.
We want to hear from the young leaders around the planet:

  • What is your vision for a better world?
  • What issues are important to you and what you doing about it?
  • How can we get involved to help you take action?
  • How are you utilizing global collaborations and connections which are now possible through technology?
  • What are some unseen connections across issues and challenges?

This collection is brought to you in collaboration with Youth For Change , The Earth Charter Initiative, Wupy, What’s Up Youth andTakingITGlobal .

Submissions
  • Submission will be open from June 5th to August 30th, anyone can submit through the global gallery, facebook, and twitter using the hashtag #WSTD or #WeSeeThingsDifferentlyVoting will begin September 1st, when a shortlist of potential winners will be open for vote by members. Winners will be announced September 10th. Again, we want submissions to hear from the young leaders around the planet: What is your vision for a better world? What issues are important to you and what you doing about it? How can we get involved to help you take action? How are you utilizing global collaborations and connections which are now possible through technology? What are some unseen connections across issues and challenges?

Prizes Selected winners will receive a We See Things Differently Prize pack, including:

    • Global recognition and promotion for your project
    • Technology hardware to help support your work
  • Mentorship and networking from the partner organizations
