Reuters is looking for journalists with strong news judgement and a passion for speed and accuracy to join the Breaking News team in sub-Saharan Africa. The successful candidates will be part of a high-performing team, covering breaking news across a range of topics, from sending headlines and newsbreaks in real time, to writing updates, quick sidebars and compelling, visually-led human interest features.

The Breaking News Correspondents will be on the front lines of the most important, competitive and exciting stories coming out of sub-Saharan Africa. They will work under the direction of the Breaking News Editor for sub-Saharan Africa and coordinate closely with text and visuals colleagues across the continent.

The position can be based in Johannesburg, Lagos, Nairobi or Dakar.

As a Breaking News Correspondent for Sub-Saharan Africa, you will:

Monitor a range of sources for key economic, corporate and general news developments
Use social media to identify and report stories on news, trends and viral moments in sub-Saharan Africa
Write fast and accurate headlines and stories under time pressure, across a range of topics
Work with colleagues across the continent and across multiple areas of coverage

To be one of our Breaking News Correspondents, you will likely:

Have strong news judgement across the file
Be able to filter quickly through complex information to identify and explain key news elements
Be fluent in English, with strong English writing skills. French or Portuguese would be a plus.
Be a fast learner and team player
Have strong communications skills and an ability to work calmly under pressure
Have at least three years’ experience working in a news organisation

2015 ICFJ Global Health Reporting Contest for Journalists from Sub Saharan Africa (Win cash prize and a 10-day study tour to the United States

Journalists in Brazil, China, India, Russia and Sub-Saharan Africa have a chance to win a trip to the United States and cash prizes as part of regional competitions to recognize the best media coverage of maternal and child health and other urgent health matters such as Ebola and vaccination.

Stories focusing on these topics published, broadcast or posted online in Brazil, China, India, Russia and Africa between Dec. 1, 2014, and May 24, 2015, qualify for the contest.

Prize:

Six winners will receive a cash prize and a 10-day study tour to the United States.

Contest topics may include:

• Reducing maternal, infant and child mortality.
• Reducing disease transmission from mother to child.
• Preventing malnutrition.
• Improving delivery of care and infrastructure for maternal and child health.
• Responses to the Ebola epidemic.
• Innovative approaches to delivery of vaccines

Eligibility Requirements:

Journalists employed by print, broadcast or online media in each country qualify.
The contest is also open to affiliated freelance journalists. Submitted work must have appeared in a media outlet based in each region or distributed mainly in the region.
Submissions may be made in English, French (Africa), Hindi (India), Mandarin/Cantonese (China), Portuguese (Brazil), Russian (Russia).
Submissions in other languages must include an English translation.
Applicants may submit more than one entry.

You may submit one or more of the following for the health reporting contest. There is no limit to the number of submissions.

• Feature articles

• In-depth, investigative or explanatory stories

• Multimedia reports

• Videos, documentaries or discussion programs.

Provide links to websites that published or aired the stories between Dec. 1, 2014, and May 24, 2015.
You also can upload stories to YouTube/Vimeo, Dropbox, or SoundCloud and include links in this application.

The Zambezi Prize raises awareness of entrepreneurship and financial inclusion, encourages the flow of capital to financial inclusion ventures, and advances entrepreneurship and financial inclusion to fuel broad-based prosperity

Eligibility

The venture must advance financial inclusion.
The venture must have a presence in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The venture must demonstrate potential for financial self-sustainability.
The venture must have progressed beyond concept, demonstrating evidence of factors such as customers, revenues, business registration, patents or IP filings, working prototypes, institutional funding, or formal employees.
The venture must not have received more than $10M USD in aggregate funding.
The venture must not have more than $10M USD in annual revenue.
The venture must have a founder or co-founder that work or plan to work full-time on the venture.
If selected as semi-finalists, ventures must provide supplemental financial information.
If selected as finalists, ventures must have a founder or co-founder to attend an MIT-sponsored boot camp.
Individuals and teams are eligible.

Cash Prizes

The Zambezi Prize awards $200K USD annually to support ventures that contribute to financial inclusion in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The first place winner receives $100K USD. An additional $100K USD is divided among second and third place winners and a small group of finalists.

Boot Camp

A small group of finalists participate in an MIT-sponsored boot camp to take advantage of MIT’s unparalleled entrepreneurial ecosystem and engage with experts in the fields of entrepreneurship and financial inclusion.

Masters Scholarships Undergraduate

The 2013/2014 Bocconi University(Italy) Scholarship for International Students.

Bocconi University offers up to 40 need-based scholarships to international students enrolling in a Bachelor program or a Law Program at Bocconi. The awarding of the scholarship also takes into consideration scholastic performances of the students.

The Scholarship consists of a full tuition waiver worth approximately € 11,000.00 per year for a maximum of 3 academic years (for Bachelor programs) or 5 academic years (for the Law program). The renewal of the scholarship is subject to meeting merit criteria.

Scholarship applications must be submitted by the same deadline as that of the applicant’s Bocconi online admission’s application..

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Only applicants for the first year of a Bocconi Bachelor Program or the Law program who meet all the following conditions will be taken into consideration for the awarding of the scholarship:

– non-Italian citizenship;
– non-Italian residence;
– a non-Italian High School Diploma earned in Italy or abroad.

The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program provides ten months of non-degree academic study and related professional experiences in the United States. Humphrey Fellows are selected based on their potential for leadership and their commitment to public service in either the public or the private sector. The Humphrey Program fosters a mutual exchange of knowledge and understanding about issues of common concern in the United States and the Fellows’ home countries.

The Program offers Fellows valuable opportunities for leadership development and professional engagement with Americans and their counterparts from many nations. More than 4,000 men and women have been honored as Humphrey Fellows since the program began in 1978. Approximately 200 Fellowships are awarded annually.
