Start-Up Chile Seed program

The Start-Up Chile Seed program attracts world class entrepreneurs to do business in Chile. Seed accommodates early stage entrepreneurs who will strengthen the enterprise environment, support the culture of innovation in Chile and connect with Latam to grow from our region to the world.

Criteria to qualify

Applicants

You may apply as either a Natural Person or as a Chilean Legal Person. A Chilean Legal person is suitable for Chilean companies. In this case, the company will be the beneficiary of Start-Up Chile funding. Foreigners with an incorporated company outside of Chile must apply as a Natural Person. The person named on the application as a Natural Person will be the beneficiary of funds. This information does not affect the outcome of the evaluation process!

Less than 3 years

Your startup cannot be older than 3 years. We are looking for early start ventures.

Dedicated 100%

Your team leader must be 100% dedicated to the project. Optionally, the participation of up two natural persons who form part of the founding team and who are duly specified during the application process may be considered. These terms apply to Chilean participants also.

Benefits:

Equity free money

The startup will receive an equity free fund of CLP $25MM, which is towards 90% of total program costs and through either reimbursement or an advance payment plan. The founder/startup must provide 10% of the remaining funding. Applicants can apply for an additional CLP $25MM to stay in Chile, which will also give them an extension of the program to 14 months total.

Accelerations & 6 month experience

During your 6 month experience in Chile, Start-Up Chile will accelerate and support your business, through a full acceleration program + access to both national and international corporate network, investors, mentors, and global partners to scale to new markets. You will also be a part of an inclusive and energetic environment with other like-minded entrepreneurs to have the experience of a lifetime. The project duration could be up to 9 months, which may be extended only once and for up to 1 additional month.

Foreign teams will be provided with a one-year working visa, free coworking space, and a full soft-landing process.

All teams will have access to the Start-Up Chile community which includes up to $100,000 USD in perks such as Microsoft BizSpark, Facebook Start, Amazon Web Services and many more.

Timeline:

Start-Up Chile is a program created by the Chilean Government that seeks to attract early-stage, high-potential entrepreneurs to bootstrap their startups using Chile as a platform to go global. The end goal of this program is to position Chile as the innovation and entrepreneurship hub of Latin America.

Start-Up Chile Seed is a program for those who want to accelerate and develop a world-class startup in Chile, while helping us shape the local culture to embrace entrepreneurship. Talented entrepreneurs from all over the world are invited to apply to be part of the program. If you have an amazing and scalable business idea or an established startup with high growth potential we would be happy to receive your application.

Start-Up Chile’s admission process is organized with the support of Younoodle, a California-based company that provides a technology platform used by leading entrepreneurship clubs and university competitions worldwide. After their review, an internal selection panel will make the final approval decision.

Those who are selected to participate in the Start-Up Chile Seed program must be able to move to Chile and stay here full time and take active part in the program for 6 at least months (consider one extra month, devoted to program procedures to get you started).

Benefits:

The selected startups will receive 20 million Chilean pesos (USD $30,000), as well as an intense weekly schedule to accelerate their ideas.
This includes courses, mentoring and pitch training, among other activities.
In addition, foreigners will receive a Working Visa valid for a year to come to Chile.

Requirements:

Video
Startup Chile will ask all startups to provide a 2 minute video, explaining what pain is solved, introduce the team members and why are you applying to Start-Up Chile. Videos with animations will be rejected.
Recommendation letters
Only provide the email of the person that will write your recommendation letter. Once it has been submitted (during the application process), the person will receive a notification asking to write one.
Applicants

There are two ways in which you can decide to apply. You can apply
1) as a Natural Person, no matter your nationality; Or
2) as a Chilean Legal Person, yes only Chilean Companies.

If you apply as a Natural Person, then you will be the beneficiary of the grant. If you apply as a Chilean Legal Person, then this Chilean company will be the beneficiary.

It’s not possible for foreign companies to apply. If you are foreigner and you have a company abroad, then you need to apply as a Natural Person.

This information makes no difference at all, during the evaluation process!

Companies
Consulting companies, export/import companies and franchises are not accepted as they are not easily scalable on a global level.

Less than 2 years
Your Company cannot be older than two years of age, because we are looking for early stage startups

Dedicated 100%
The team leader must be 100% dedicated to the project (you cannot be employed in any other company while you are participating in the program). *All these terms apply to Chilean participants equally.

Timeline:

The results for Generation 17 will be published in December 2016.
The program will start on February 6th 2017 (TBC)
