Shell Ideas360 is a collaborative programme that invites students on an exciting journey of learning & discovery. Enter this global ideas competition to develop and submit a game-changing idea and stand a chance to win a National Geographic Adventure.

The Staged

Stage 1: Formulate

Register online – Join the Learning sessions – Submit an Idea

Stage 2: Develop

Selected ideas will have access to:

  • A designated mentor
  • Expert Development Sessions – support to further develop your idea, Leadership & business skills training to enhance your career

Stage 3: Pitch

Finalist teams receive:

  • A trip to Make The Future, London
  • Intensive coaching
  • Opportunity to pitch ideas to senior Shell executives, Innovators and Industry leaders

Prizes and Benefits:

Stage 1

Each member of a team that submits an idea receives a 3-month subscription to WIRED’s interactive digital edition (accessible on iPad, iPhone and Kindle Fire) and a certificate of participation.

Stage 2

Each member of a team that submits an idea receives a subscription to National Geographic Magazine and a certificate of participation.

Stage 3

Each member of the finalist teams will fly to Make The Future, London and receive a personalized medal and certificate of completion.

Winners: The team will receive the Shell Ideas360 trophy and each member of the team wins a National Geographic Adventure.

2015/2016 Shell Ideas360 Global Idea Competition for Students Worldwide (Fully Funded to the United Kingdom)

Shell Ideas360 is a global competition for students to develop an idea that tackle the challenges on food, water and energy resources.

Shell Ideas360 is more than a global competition that connects students to develop ideas to tackle the pressures on the world’s Food, Water and Energy resources. It’s an exciting journey of learning and discovery. Collaborate with like-minded innovators, Shell experts and mentors to expand your horizons.

Register and join the online community to connect with students from around the world, create a team and start developing your idea for Shell Ideas360 2015/2016.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Competition is open to any person who is, or will be, the higher of 18 years of age or the age of majority in the Participant’s relevant jurisdiction of residency by 01/12/2015;
  • is currently studying (and is officially registered to continue studying until at least 01/12/2015) as a full time or part time undergraduate or postgraduate, excluding those studying for Phd or MPhil degrees, at one of the recognised, degree awarding universities or other equivalent higher education establishments set out on the World Higher Education Database (accessed via whed.net) (an “Eligible Student“).

Prize:

  • Participants who make Stage 1 Submissions by15 December 2015 will each receive a 3 month digital edition subscription for iPad 2+® and iPhone 4+® to Wired magazine.
  • Each Individual Participant and Team Participant selected to progress to Stage 2 of the Competition will receive a one-year subscription to National Geographic magazine, All Access (worth £19). This includes digital editions for iPad®, iPhone® & Kindle Fire™ + Online Archive.
  • The Individual Participant or each Team Participant in the Team selected as the Winner of the Competition will win a National Geographic Adventure.
  • The approximate value of the prize is US $10,000.
  • The Promoter will organise and pay for economy-class travel and reasonable accommodation expenses before and/or after the National Geographic Adventure if required to enable the Winner to travel on the National Geographic Adventure.

Eligibility:

Competition is open to any person who

  • is, or will be, aged 18 or over by 01/12/2014; and

An Eligible Student under the age of 18 or who is not at the age of majority at the time of registration for the Competition must have the consent of his/her parent or legal guardian to accept these terms and conditions and to participate in the Competition.

Application Process:

Stage 1: formulate

Stage 1 – basic information about an idea that could help solve Energy, Water or Food issues, including the following details:

TITLE (6 words)

THE ELEVATOR PITCH – a description of the idea in a couple of sentences (200 words)

IMAGE/PHOTO representing the idea

BASIC CATEGORY SELECTION – Energy/Water/Food

A SELF ASSESSMENT OF:

  • How novel is your idea?
  • How doable is your idea?
  • How relevant is your idea?
  • How valuable is your idea?

being the “Stage 1 Submission”.

4th August 2014 – 1st December 2014

Register online – Explorer the online community – Introductory Google Hangouts

Learn and be inspired

Register and set up your personal profile. You can enter as an individual or as part of a team of up to three people.

You can submit your idea, access Google Hangouts and explore online communities to shape your idea before submission.

Stage 2: develop

  • Stage 2 – a detailed project proposal and video (up to 3 minutes) explaining their idea in more detail, being the “ Stage 2 Submission”.

A briefing pack containing specific guidance as to the requirements for Stage 2 will be sent to relevant Participants at the start of Stage 2.

22nd January 2015 – 8th March 2015

Selected ideas will have access to:

  • A designated mentor

Stage 3: pitch

  • Stage 3 – Pitch with supporting slides for presentation at the Final Event, being the “Stage 3 Submission”.

Make your idea pitch perfect with coaching , insight and support from senior Shell experts and gain exclusive access to Shell Eco Marathon and Powering Progress Together forum in Rotterdam.

Shell Ideas360 is a global competition  organised by Shell International Limited for  students to develop game-changing ideas for  tackling Energy, Water and Food issues.

The theme of Shell Ideas360 is “People  & Planet – the Energy, Water and Food  Challenge”. All individual participants  or teams will be requested to develop an  Formulate  and submit  your idea.

Who can participate?

Shell Ideas360 is open to University students from around the world.

Students wishing to participate must be registered to study full-time at a recognized, degree-awarding institution and should be due to graduate after May 2014. Participants can be studying a Bachelors, Masters or MBA level degree in any discipline. There is no age limit. Current employees, placement students or those in the Shell graduate program cannot participate.

  • Participation in the Competition is open to any person who
  • (i) is, or will be, aged 18 or over by 31/05/14; and
  • ii) is currently studying (and is officially registered to continue studying until at least (31/05/2014)  as a full time undergraduate or postgraduate  at a recognised, degree awarding university  or other equivalent higher education  establishment (“Eligible Student”).

Apart from the opportunity to contribute your own ideas to create a better future, we – and our partner National Geographic  – are offering the following**:

  • The winners will receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join a National Geographic Expedition.

Prize

 

The five individuals or teams that are  selected to progress through to the final  stage will receive a sponsored trip to  Shell Eco-Marathon 2014 in Rotterdam,  the Netherlands, and the winner of the competition will receive  the grand prize of a National Geographic  Expedition.
As part of Shell’s commitment to investing  in innovation, the best ideas (whether or not they are selected for the Final) will also  be considered for funding by the Shell GameChanger programme.

Registration Procedure

  • You can register and set up your personal  profile at www.shellideas360.com
  • You can enter either as an individual or as  part of a team of up to three people. If you  decide to enter as a team, you will need to  nominate a Team Captain who can submit an  idea on the team’s behalf.
  • Each participant/team will also be required to nominate a member of academic staff  from their University to act as a university  sponsor throughout the individual’s or team’s  participation in Shell Ideas360.
