Do you want to take your businesses to a new level and develop both as an entrepreneur and a leader? Become part of a strong network of women entrepreneurs in the Middle East and North Africa region through the leadership programme She Entrepreneurs.

She Entrepreneurs is a leadership programme for highly motivated women entrepreneurs in the Middle East and North Africa region who are building successful and sustainable businesses with the potential to make a difference in their societies. In the past nine years that the programme has been running, many successful entrepreneurs received support that helped them expand.

She Entrepreneurs is a practical and hands-on leadership training based on real business experiences, collaborative learning and participant-centric design. The programme provides tangible tools, insights and connections for participants who want to grow their businesses and develop as entrepreneurs, as well as leaders.

The programme runs over six months with interactive online seminars and regular mentor support followed by one on-site meeting in Stockholm in October 2021.*

She Entrepreneurs will give you:

  • The opportunity to plan and strategise for your business in an inspiring and collaborative learning environment.
  • Regular support and input through sessions with expert mentors on an individual level as well as through group coaching.
  • Increased self-awareness as a leader and deepened understanding of how to build effective and motivated teams, while also taking care of your own work-life balance and long-term wellbeing.
  • Increased knowledge on topics such as business development, communication, business innovation, crisis management, growing through partnerships, finance and funding.
  • New perspectives on responsible and sustainable business practices from a social and an environmental perspective, as well as tangible tools for measuring your value creation.
  • A strong and active community of likeminded women.

*The on-site meeting will take place if the global pandemic situation allows, and of course with all necessary precautions.

Requirements

You are welcome to submit your application if you are a woman entrepreneur between the age of 22 and 45 (born 1975 – 1999) with a business that:

  • is already operational and ready to expand;
  • has the potential to develop a financially sustainable business model, generate a positive social impact, and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals;
  • is based in Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine or Tunisia.

In addition, you should:

  • have a proficient command of both written and spoken English;
  • be willing to pay it forward by contributing at least two hours of pro bono mentorship to a junior entrepreneur in your home country during the programme.

Programme Timeline

She Entrepreneurs runs for six months and consists of interactive online workshops, regular mentor support, and one on-site meeting in Sweden. The on-site meeting will be held for 10 days in Stockholm in October – if the global pandemic situation allows, and of course with all necessary precautions.

  • Online training (22 April – 2 July 2021)
    The training is set up with a highly practical approach that allows you to apply learnings and insights directly to your business. Every second week, online workshop are organized on different topics that help you grow your turnover and operations, build a resilient leadership and team, and increase your social or environmental contribution. The workshops are led by experienced entrepreneurs and trainers. Joint workshops and smaller learning groups give plenty of opportunities to meet other entrepreneurs in similar situations and to make new connections.
  • The training kicks off with a one-hour introduction meeting on 13 April, followed by two half-day sessions 22–23 April. The five seminars that follow are typically held every second week during 1.5 – 2 hours on Friday mornings, plus 1 hour of individual preparations.
  • Online mentorship (April–September)
    At the start of the programme, you are matched with an individual mentor that will support you throughout the programme. You can also sign up for optional group mentoring sessions with thematic experts on topics that are requested among the participants.
  • On-site meeting in Stockholm (11–20 October 2021) *
    The on-site meeting will be held in the city of Stockholm – one of Europe’s leading hubs for entrepreneurs. The focus of the meeting will be to strengthen and expand the network. You will continue to build on your entrepreneurial and leadership skills through workshops, seminars and meetings with mentors, experts and representatives of the Stockholm entrepreneurial ecosystem. On the final day, you will present your business to an advisory board consisting of senior entrepreneurs and business advisors.

She Entrepreneurs is a practical and hands-on leadership training based on real business experiences and collaborative learning. The programme provides tangible tools, insights and connections for participants who want to grow their businesses and develop both as entrepreneurs and as leaders.

The programme runs over five months with two separate assemblies (modules) taking place in the city of Stockholm – one of Europe’s leading hubs for entrepreneurs.

If you are ready to take your business to the next level and want to become part of a strong network of likeminded women that can support and inspire you on your journey – then She Entrepreneurs is the programme for you.

Requirments

You are welcome to submit your application if you are a woman entrepreneur between the age of 22 and 45 (born 1974 – 1998) with a business that:

Programme Timeline

She Entrepreneurs is made up of two separate modules over the year. In between the modules, you will also have  online follow-ups with your mentor. Module 1 runs for 11 days and Module 2 for 7 days. Both modules will take place in Stockholm. It is an intensive programme with full daily schedules and many evening activities. All selected participants will have to commit to participating in all the activities of both Module 1 and 2

Online Kick-off (13 May 15:00- 16:30 Swedish time)

Module 1 (in Stockholm, Sweden, 1 – 11 June 2020)

At the end of Module 2, you will present your business to an advisory board consisting of senior entrepreneurs and business advisors.

Programme Timeline

  • Download and fill out the She Entrepreneurs 2019 application form
  • Go to the application portal
  • Upload the completed application form in English, including your contact details and the contact details of one reference person
  • Upload an updated CV in English
  • Upload a photo (not compulsory).

Evaluation

The Swedish Institute appoints a selection committee consisting of senior entrepreneurs and field experts as well as staff from SI. Each application is evaluated by two different members of the selection committee.

Each application is evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • The potential of the applicant’s business (to develop a financially sustainable business model and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals)
  • The applicant’s drive, motivation and commitment.

She Entrepreneurs is a leadership programme for young emerging women social entrepreneurs in the Middle East, North Africa and Sweden. The programme aims to give the participants innovative tools for sustainable change while seeking to create an active network of women changemakers.

She Entrepreneurs runs for one year, with participants meeting for ten days in Sweden and one week in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. In between the modules, the participants work on their own initiative locally, coached by group mentors over digital platforms.

Eligibility:

  • The participants are social entrepreneurs from Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Palestine, Yemen and Sweden who address social challenges and strive for positive social change through initiatives based on entrepreneurial principles.

Benefits:

  • During the programme participants are provided with inspiration, knowledge and tools to develop a business idea for sustainable change that they have already started working on in their country or region.
  • Through the programme, participants are also offered the opportunity to meet leading social and business entrepreneurs as well as become a part of an active network of women social entrepreneurs that supports personal and professional development.
  • If you are accepted to the She Entrepreneurs Programme, all costs in association with programme participation will be covered by the Swedish Institute.
  • Accommodation, food and travelAll costs related to accommodation, food and transport during the She Entrepreneurs Programme are covered by the Swedish Institute.

Selection:

  • About 60 shortlisted applicants are called for interviews as a second step in the selection process. The interviews are conducted through Skype.
  • Twenty-five successful applicants will then receive an offer to participate in the programme. This offer is valid only under the condition that the participant obtains a visa to travel to Sweden

During the programme participants are provided with inspiration, knowledge and tools to develop a project for sustainable change that they have already started working on in their country or region. Through the programme, participants are also offered the opportunity to meet leading social and business entrepreneurs as well as become a part of an active network of women social entrepreneurs that supports personal and professional development.

Who can apply to the programme?

  • You should have drive, ambition and interest to use social entrepreneurship to implement a social project that you have already started working on.
  • You are a citizen of Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Lebanon, Sweden, Syria, Tunisia, Morocco, West Bank-Gaza or Yemen.
  • Your social project should be based and implemented in your country of citizenship or in one of the countries of the She Entrepreneurs Programme listed above.
  • You are between 20 and 32 years old.
  • You should have a good working knowledge of both written and spoken English.
  • You should have basic knowledge of the internet and social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

How to apply?

Apply by filling out our She Entrepreneurs Application Form 2014 and going to ourapplication portal. Deadline for applications is November 1, 2013. Only applicants who have submitted a complete application will be considered for the programme.

A complete application consists of:

  • A completed She Entrepreneurs Application Form 2014 in English,  including your contact details and the contact details of two reference persons.
  • An updated CV in English
  • A photo (not compulsory)

About 60 shortlisted applicants will be called for interviews as a second step in the selection process. The interviews will be conducted through Skype.

The Swedish Institute will contact 25 selected applicants by email before the end of December 2013 and offer them a place in the She Entrepreneurs Programme. The Swedish Institute will also compose a list of reserve candidates in case a second selection round would be needed. Reserves who have been offered a place in the She Entrepreneurs programme will be notified by January 19, 2014.

Due to the large number of applications that we receive, we are unfortunately not able to send personal replies to all applicants. Hence, if you have not heard from us byJanuary 19, 2014, you have not been accepted to the She Entrepreneurs Programme.However, you are more than welcome to apply again for next year’s programme.

She Entrepreneurs is a leadership program for young emerging women social entrepreneurs in Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Sweden, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank-Gaza and Yemen. The program aims to give the participants innovative tools for sustainable change while seeking to create a unique network of women change-makers.

She Entrepreneurs started in 2011 and is one of SI’s leadership programs focusing on young and driven female leaders striving at making a social change. She Entrepreneurs offers inspiration, tools and networks with the aim of building collaborative strategies and increase partnerships between Sweden and the countries involved.
