Application is now open for the VLIR-UOS International Master Programmes scholarships for undertaking an accredited English master programmes of 60, 90 or 120 credits, organised at a Flemish university. Selection of a Master as ICP implies the acquirement of and obligation to attribute 12 fully fledged scholarships per intake year, entirely funded through VLIR-UOS, during the five year cycle 2017-2021.

Scholarships for students from developing countries :

The scholarships aim to facilitate the participation of the attendants coming from the VLIR-UOS country list for scholarships. The corresponding scholarship amounts are transferred by VLIR-UOS to the central administration of the Flemish university in the framework of an agreement which is concluded between VLIR-UOS and the Flemish university as a whole.

Eligibility criteria

Nationality and Country of Residence

A candidate should be a national and resident of one of the countries of the VLIR-UOS country

list for scholarships (not necessarily the same country) at the time of application.

Africa: Angola, Algeria,Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea,

Guinee-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali,Mauritania,Morocco,Mozambique,Namibia, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe

Age
The maximum age for a ICP candidate is 35 years for an initial masters and 40 years for an advanced masters. The candidate cannot succeed this age on January 1 of the intake year.
Professional background and experience
VLIR-UOS gives priority to candidates who are employed in academic institutions, research institutes, governments, social economy or NGO’s, or aim a career in one of these sectors.However, also candidates employed in the profit sector or newly graduated candidates without any work experience can be eligible for the scholarship
Fungibility with other VLIR-UOS funding

1 A scholarship within the BTP scholarship programme is not compatible with financial support

within an IUC-or TEAM-project. Candidates working in a university where such projects are

being organized, should submit a declaration of the project leader stating that the department where the candidate is employed is not involved in the project.
Former VLIR-UOS scholarship applications and previously awarded scholarships

A candidate can only submit one VLIR-UOS scholarship application per year, irrespectively of

the scholarship type. As a consequence, a candidate can only be selected for one VLIR-UOS

scholarship per year

Scholarship Worth:

Applicants may request a budget up to a maximum of

€ 150.000 (for 2-year/ 4 semesters / 120 credits Master programmes);
€ 125.000 (for 1,5-year / 3 semesters / 90 credits Master programmes);
€ 100.000 (for 1-year/ 2 semesters/ 60 credits Master programmes); per year of the five-year period 2017-2021.
This funding facility is available for, basically, two general types of expenses:

(1) Costs related to building a strategy to gradually strengthen/build the South dimension of the

ICP through cooperation with partners in the South (planning costs);

(2) Costs related to the operation of the programme aimed at ensuring quality participation by

students and teaching/research staff from the South (operational costs).

Applications are now open for Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for the 2015 academic year.

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships support Master’s study and are offered by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in partnership with UK universities. The scholarships are intended for students from developing countries who would not otherwise be able to afford to study in the UK, to gain skills and knowledge which will allow them to contribute to the development of their home countries.

In 2015-2016, over 70 UK universities are jointly funding Shared Scholarships with the CSC.

Key features

Shared Scholarships are for taught Masters’ courses only; awards will not be made for undergraduate or PhD study, and will not cover any pre-sessional English language teaching.
Candidates can apply to study subjects related to the development of their home country at participating UK universities only
Shared Scholarships are usually tenable for one-year Master’s courses only

Eligibility

To apply for a Commonwealth Shared Scholarship, candidates must:

Be Commonwealth citizens, refugees, or British protected persons
Be permanently resident in a developing Commonwealth country
Be available to commence their academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2015
Hold, by October 2015, a first degree of at least upper second class Honours standard
Not have undertaken studies lasting one year or more in a developed country
Be unable themselves, or through their families, to pay to study in the UK

Value of awards

The CSC and host UK universities jointly meet the full costs of Commonwealth Shared Scholarships. Each Scholarship provides:

Student concessionary or other approved airfare to the United Kingdom and return on expiry of the Scholarship (arranged by the host university; funded by the CSC)
Approved tuition and examination fees (funded by the CSC)
A personal maintenance allowance at the rate of £977 per month (£1,208 per month for those studying at institutions in the London Metropolitan area) – rates quoted at 2014-2015 levels (paid and funded by the host university)
A grant of £225 towards the expenses of preparing a dissertation, where applicable ( claimed from the host university; funded by the CSC)
An initial arrival allowance, including visa reimbursement where applicable (funded by the host university)
A grant of £200 for expenses for approved study travel within the UK or overseas (claimed from the host university; funded by the CSC)
Excess baggage allowance for up to 10 kilograms of books only, when returning home (funded by the CSC)

How to Apply:

All applications must be made through your host UK university. You must check with them in the first instance for specific advice on how to make an application and for their own closing date.
All Commonwealth Shared Scholarship candidates must be selected and put forward to the CSC by their host UK university, and must submit their application to the CSC using our Electronic Application System (EAS).

Candidates must apply for a Commonwealth Shared Scholarship using one of two methods, as instructed by the university:

1. Via university:

Applying to the university in the first instance using the university’s own application form. If selected, candidates will then be asked to submit an application to the CSC using the EAS. Any applications made via the EAS only and not directly to the university first will not be considered.

2. EAS only:

Applying to both the university and the CSC at the same time using the EAS. Each university has its own closing date for applications.
