OSHWAL AID/ Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) 2015/2016 Scholarships for Kenyans (Kshs.100,000.00 per annum)

Oshwal aid a welfare arm of the Oshwal Education and Relief Board (OE&RB) and in association with Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), invites eligible university students to apply for Scholarships for the financial year 2015/2016.

The scholarship will fund 10 students for the total tenure of study, for undergraduate degree programmes. The fund supports needy entrants, in local universities, to a maximum of Kshs.100,000.00 per annum.

This scholarship will only finance the following courses of study:

  • Business Studies and Management
  • Fine Arts
  • Political Science
  • Law
  • Architecture
  • Information systems and technology
  • Environmental Studies
  • Agriculture
  • Economics
  • Pharmacy
  • Nursing
  • Engineering
  • Requirements for Oshwal Scholarship in Kenya

The applicant must:

  • Be a Kenyan citizen with a residential status in Kenya;
  • Have sat for the KCSE or equivalent level not more than one year prior to the application;
  • Have obtained a mean grade of B+ or above, with at least B plain in English and Mathematics;
  • Demonstrate need for financial aid;
  • Demonstrate leadership qualities, community service/spirit, concern for others, talent, concern about the
  • environment and solid character; and
  • Provide reference letters from two referees, one of whom must be the secondary school head teacher.
  • Provide an hand written personal statement of at least 300 words giving reasons why you deserve the scholarship
  • Conditions of the Scholarship:
  • Show proof of placement at a university before the scholarship is awarded; and
  • Is expected to provide academic progress reports and reference letters from the university on a yearly basis to maintain funding for the ongoing period of study.

How To Apply

Oshwal Aid and Higher Education Loans Board reserve the right to discontinue the scholarship for students who fail to obtain the required grades to proceed to the next level of study, or are not able to obtain satisfactory reference letters from the university.

Beneficiaries will undertake to provide academic transcripts to HELB at the end of each semester / academic year.

2015 Catholic Academic Exchange Service (KAAD) Scholarship Programme for Africans to study in Germany.

The KAAD Scholarship Programme for sub-Saharan Africa is geared towards development of African countries and societies as well as development of qualified individuals.

Young university graduates, who have already taken over responsibility in church and society, should be empowered to continue along this line and do it in an even more qualified way.

Beneficiaries of KAAD-scholarships are predominantly from needy families and display academic excellence. The ultimate aim of our scholarship policy is the promotion of so-called “Agents of Change”.

The focus countries in Africa today are: Ghana, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and Kenya. Uganda and Tanzania are counted to be part of the focus region East Africa, apart from Kenya.

Who can apply?

For the scholarship programme 1 of KAAD you can apply if you:

  • come from a developing or emerging country in Africa, Asia, the Middle East or Latin America and are currently living there
  • have a university degree and professional experience from your home country
  • want to acquire a master’s degree or a PhD at a German university or do a post-doctoral research project (2-6 months for established university lecturers) at a German university
  • are a Catholic Christian (or general belong to a Christian denomination). Candidates from other religions can apply if they are proposed by Catholic partners and can prove their commitment to interreligious dialogue
  • possess German language skills before starting the studies (KAAD can provide a language course of max. 6 months in Germany).

What does KAAD expect from you?

  • Above-average performance in studies and research
  • The orientation of your studies or research towards permanent reintegration in your home region (otherwise the scholarship is turned into a loan),
  • Religious and social commitment (activities) and willingness to inter-religious dialogue.

2013/2014 Higher Education Loans Board Post Graduate Scholarships for Kenyans

The Higher Education Loans Board invites applications for the 2013/2014 Postgraduate partial Scholarships from Kenyan Students enrolled for Masters and PhD programs in local Public or Private Universities recognized by the Commission for University Education [CUE]. The value of the scholarship award is KES 200,000.00 and KES 450,000.00 for Masters and PhD programs respectively.

Eligibility Criteria:
(i) Letter of Admission into a full or part time program in a local public or recognized private university.
(ii) Minimum of Second Class Upper Division.
(iii) Reporting for 1st year of study in 2013.
(iv) Preference will be given to applicants undertaking Science, Technology and engineering programs which will directly contribute to the national developmental goals aligned to the Vision 2030.

 

How to Apply:
1. Applicants should access, fill and print the Postgraduate Scholarship Application Form [PGSAF] from the Higher Education Loans Board  website www.helb.co.ke;
2. Print two copies of the PGSAF;
3. Have the form properly lled, signed and stamped by the relevant authorities and attach all the necessary documents as indicated on the checklist on the PGSAF;
4. Submit one copy of PGSAF duly lled, signed and stamped and the relevant certied copies of transcripts and certicates attached, to our oces at Anniversary Towers, 18th Floor on or before the deadline of August 31, 2013;
5. Retain one copy of the duly lled PGSAF.

2014 Wangari Maathai Scholarship Fund for Kenyans.

The Wangari Maathai Scholarship Fund is an environmental innovations fund set up in memory of Prof. Wangari Maathai that is aimed at developing action-oriented young people with strong values and commitment to the conservation of the physical and social environment in Kenya.

This is the 2nd public call for scholarship applications to the fund.
A scholarship award from the fund is given each year to a young woman who has demonstrated passion and personal commitment to environmental conservation.
This individual must also demonstrate their ability to successfully mobilize people and provide leadership in environmental advocacy.
Selection Criteria:
  • A young woman of between the ages of 18 – 25 years.
  • Kenyan citizens currently residing in Kenya
  • The scholarship is limited to applicants who have enrolled in a Kenyan tertiary institution
  • Ability to demonstrate the environmental conservation project(s) they have started or have been involved in and how those initiatives have impacted people in their community, in ways that have improved environmental health and sustainability, and the fund’s goals of achieving a greener, cleaner and a more sustainable community.

Master Scholarships for International Students, University of Skövde, Sweden.

The University of Skövde offers some scholarships to students who are attending a Master’s programme at our University and are liable for tuition fees. If you are an exchange student, please contact your home university for information about which scholarships they provide.

This page contains information about three types of scholarship grants:

  1. Scholarships for international master’s students liable for tuition fees
  2. Scholarships offered by the Swedish Institute
  3. Scholarships for exchange students from the EU, EEA and Switzerland

1. Scholarships for international master’s students liable for tuition fees

The University of Skövde has some scholarships to students attending a Master’s programme at our university. The scholarships are tuition fee waivers of SEK 60 000 / year (50% of the tuition fee), and the amount will be deducted from the tuition fee when you receive the invoice. The scholarship granting criterion is academic merits. The scholarship can only be awarded to tuition paying students. Please note that you have to be able to finance the rest of the tuition fee yourself and to cover all the living expenses during your stay in Sweden.

How to apply for a scholarship at the University of Skövde:

  • First apply for studies at University Admissions prior to applying for a scholarship at the University of Skövde, you must apply for one of our master’s programmes at the Swedish official online application service University Admissions. The deadline for applications for the autumn semester 2013 has passed, but at the moment we are still accepting late applications.
  • Then apply for a scholarship at the University of Skövde: the scholarship application deadline for the master’s programmes that start in the autumn semester (August 2013) is March 10th, 2013.
  • Fill in the Scholarship Application Form. You will need to provide us with the application number you will receive from the website University Admissions when you submit your scholarship application on our website.

Please read the information below with the list of countries (categories 1 and 2) before you apply for a scholarship.

Deadline: March 10th, 2013

The scholarship applications for the autumn semester 2013 may be analyzed in two batches as below:

  • Scholarship applications received until March 10th
  • Scholarship applications received from March 11th to April 21st

In case the University of Skövde does not grant all scholarships in the first batch of applications, our scholarship committee will work on a second batch after the deadline so that the scholarship applications received after the deadline will also be analysed for the autumn semester. Note that we will not accept scholarship applications for the autumn semester 2013 after April 21st, 2013 and we cannot guarantee that we will be able to grant scholarships in a second batch.

The first batch results will be announced in the beginning of April 2013. In case we have a second batch, its results will be announced in the beginning of May 2013.

Important information:

Please note: students from Category 1 (see list below) can only apply for the Swedish Institute Study Scholarship, while students from Category 2 (see list below) can apply to both the scholarships from the University of Skövde and the Swedish Institute Study Scholarship.

Category 1: Bangladesh, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.

Category 2: Candidates with citizenship from countries on the DAC list of ODA recipients, except the ones listed on Category 1 and the other following exceptions: Albania, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova, Russia, Serbia, Turkey and Ukraine.

2. Scholarships offered by the Swedish Institute

The Swedish Institute offers a range of scholarships for students coming to study in Sweden. For more information about SI’s scholarships, please contact the Swedish Institute directly.

3. Scholarships for exchange students from the EU, EEA and Switzerland

If you are an exchange student, please contact your home university for information about which scholarships they provide. The University of Skövde is part of the Erasmus programme, which means that if the University of Skövde has a bilateral Erasmus agreement with your home institution you might be able to study here with an Erasmus grant. We encourage you to pursue this option since the Erasmus scholarships are often very generous.
