Ideal Candidate: A student, male or female, from a country in the developing world, who:

  • Successfully completed secondary education, with goodto excellent grades
  • Is applying to university or is working towards earning their first undergraduate degree
  • Will be studying in their country or another country in the developing world
  • Plans to live and work in their own country after they graduate
  • Has participated in volunteer service prior to applying for this scholarship and is willing to continue to engage in community service while receiving the ETE Scholarship
  • Have some funds available for their education, but will not be able to go to school or continue without assistance
Scholarships
award 20- 25 scholarships per year. Our maximum scholarship is $3,000 USD.

Scholarship Recipient Responsibilities:
  • Maintain good grades in all university studies
  • Be an ambassador for community service and engagement
  • Perform, record and document 100 hours of community service activities throughout the year

Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarships Program 2014/2015 .

Established in 1987 with funding from the Government of Japan, the World Bank Joint Japan Graduate Scholarship Program has helped create an international community of highly trained professionals working in economic and social development through financing of graduate and post-graduate studies.

Accepted Subject Areas?

Eligible applicants should propose a program of study related to development at the master’s level, in fields such as

  • Economics, health, education, agriculture, environment, natural resource management, or other development‑related subject.

Eligibility Criteria:

The applicant meets the following eligibility criteria:
  • A developing country nationals working in the public sector, or in a development related job
  • Be a national of a World Bank member country eligible to borrow.
  • Not be a dual citizen of any industrialized country.
  • Not be an Executive Director, his/her alternate, staff of the World Bank Group (the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, International Development Association, Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, and International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes), consultant, relative or in-law of the aforementioned.
  • Holds a Bachelors degree (or equivalent university degree) earned before 2011.
  • Currently employed in a paid and full time position at time of application
  • Have, by the application deadline, at least 3 years but no more than 20 years of recent full time paid employment in the applicant’s home country or in another developing country acquired after receiving the first Bachelors (or equivalent university) degree, and at least 3 years of recent experience in development-related work
  • Have, by the notification of the scholarship award, been accepted unconditionally (except for funding) to enroll in the upcoming academic year in one of the JJ/WBGSP

The scholarship provides benefits for the recipient only, covering:

  • economy class air travel between the home country and the host university at the start of the study program and one return journey following the end of the overall scholarship period.
  • In addition to the ticket, scholars receive a US $500 travel allowance for each trip;
  • tuition and the cost of basic medical and accident insurance usually obtained through the university;
  • a monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses, including books.

2014/2015 Aga Khan Foundation International Scholarship Programme.

The Aga Khan Foundation provides a limited number of scholarships each year for postgraduate studies to outstanding students from select developing countries who have no other means of financing their studies, in order to prepare them for employment, primarily within the AKDN.

The Foundation gives priority to requests for Master’s level courses but is willing to consider applications for PhD programmes, only in the case of outstanding students who are highly recommended for doctoral studies by their professors and who need a PhD for the fulfilment of their career objectives (academic or research oriented).

Selection Criteria
The main criteria for selecting award winners are:

l) consistently excellent academic records,
2) genuine financial need,
3) admission to a highly reputable university or programme of study and 4) relevance of the field of study to AKDN’s focus areas.

  • Candidates are also evaluated on demonstrating thoughtful and coherent educational and career plans, their extra-curricular interests and achievements, potential to achieve their goals and likelihood to succeed in a foreign academic environment.
  • Applicants are expected to have some years of work experience in their field of interest.

Age Limit
Preference is given to students under 30 years of age.

Geographic Scope
The Foundation accepts applications from nationals of the following countries:  Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Egypt, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar and Mozambique.

Financial Assistance
The Foundation assists students with tuition fees and living expenses only.

Application Procedures

  • The application procedures of AKF’s International Scholarship Programme are decentralised. Students may obtain application forms as of January 1st each year from AKF offices or Aga Khan Education Services / Boards in their countries of current residence.
  • Completed applications should be returned to the agency from which the form was obtained. They should not be sent to Geneva.

Each year the Wells Mountain Foundation Empowerment Through Education Scholarship program provides support to students as they pursue various educational objectives.Support is provided for post-secondary school (college, university, polytechnic,trade school).

Support is not provided for graduate degrees or study in the US, UK or other developed countries.
Financial support is primarily to cover the costs of the education itself and directly related expenses including books and supplies.
Scholarships are generally granted for the full period of study; however, recipients must maintain good grades, perform community service and provide copies of all semester reports and school grades as they are received. The scholarship can be discontinued at any time in the event of unsatisfactory performance.
The scholarship awards are determined by the Scholarship Committee of the Board of Directors of
the Wells Mountain Foundation and awarded once a year.
Eligibility:
A student, male or female, from a country in the developing world, who:

  • Successfully completed a secondary education, with good  to excellent grades
  • Will be studying in their country or another country in the developing world
  • Plans to live and work in their own country after they graduate
  • Has volunteered prior to applying for this scholarship and/or is willing to volunteer while receiving the WMF scholarship
  • May have some other funds available for their education, but will not be able to go to school without a scholarship
Applications must be received by April1, 2014 to be considered for the 2014-2015 academic year. Only send one completed copy of your application with all required documents. Incomplete applications and additional mailings with supporting documents will be discarded.

The 2014-2015 Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Scholars and Artists

The Swiss Government, through the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS), awards various postgraduate scholarships to foreign scholars and researchers:

  • University scholarships (Swiss universities, Federal Institutes of Technology as well as Universities of Applied Sciences)
  • Arts scholarships (schools of music and fine arts, only for a limited number of countries).

These scholarships provide graduates from all fields with the opportunity to pursue doctoral or postdoctoral research in Switzerland at one of the public funded university or recognized institution.

Eligibility Criteria

  •  The candidate should not be more than 35 years old at the moment of the application
  • First class Master degree or equivalent University degree
  • Applicants should be residing in their home country at the moment of the application.
  • Applicants who are in Switzerland since more than 1 year are not eligible Applicants must provide a letter (e-mail) from a Professor from the Swiss host institution stating that he/she is willing to supervise the PhD In the case where the PhD is run within a structured doctoral school applicants must provide an admission letter or the proof that they are being considered for admission
  • Applicants must apply to the chosen Swiss University as well as for the scholarship. The 2 procedures are separate and must be simultaneously undertaken
  • Applicants must have a research proposal including a timeframe (this is the central piece of the application.
  • The applicant must devote all required attention to it) Applicants must be in command of the necessary language skills required for the PhD studies

Application Procedure

  • Applicants will have to obtain application forms from the Swiss embassies in their countries
  • The FCS 2014-2015 official application form (typed and printed).
  • No handwritten forms will be accepted.
  • Submit the form with the following documents:
  1. Copies of all university certificates and grade-sheets (all copies must be attested, and translated if originals are not in English, German, French or Italian. Attestations can be done by the University or a Government Officer.
  2. Two letters of recommendation from Professors in the applicants field (use exclusively the official reference form provided with the application package)
  3. A complete research proposal (approx. 5 pages), including a work schedule as well an overview of the research work conducted until now that could be relevant for the granting of the fellowship
  4. A full curriculum vitae with list of academic publications
  5. A copy of the confirmation from a Professor at the intended Swiss University that he/she is willing to supervise the PhD studies. In the case where the PhD is run within a structured doctoral school, a copy of the PhD admission letter or a least a proof that the candidate is being considered for admission
  6. A health certificate (use the official health certificate provided with the application package)
  7. A copy of the passport (main page with personal data)

The University Commission for Development (CUD) provides scholarships for International Students from developing Countries to study in Belgium. As part of the curriculum and international internships 2014-2015, CIUF grants 150 scholarships and 70 fellowships. Within its Programme for International Courses and Training programmes, CIUF grants each year 150 scholarships for participation into the courses and 70 for participation into the training programmes.

  • Have a good knowledge of written and spoken French, and for the training organized in another language, it is necessary to have a good knowledge of the course language, written and spoken. The Applicants will be asked to engage in learning French to be able to participate in daily life in Belgium,

2014/2015 DAAD scholarships for Developing Countries Students to Study in Germany.

The DAAD scholarship aims to fund and support foreign students, graduates, doctoral students, and young and early-stage researchers from developing countries who wish to study selected courses in a German university. The Scholarship Covers any of the following:

  • Postgraduate courses for professionals from developing countries at German institutions of Higher education
  • Duration: 12-24 months, depending on the particular institution
  • Internationally recognised Master’s degree
  • Includes German Universities and “Fachhochschulen” (Universities of Applied Science)
  • Support of selected programmes with a variety of full or partial scholarships
  • Funded by the BMZ (Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) but admission is also open to self-financed participants or students financed through government or other sources
  • Academic year 2014/2015

Prerequisites and Requirements

1. Prerequisites and Requirements Selection criteria and procedures for DAAD scholarship recipients ensure that

  • priority target candidates have proven, development-related motivation and can be expected to make full use of their scholarship and education by taking on social responsibility later in their careers, acting as agents of change who stimulate and support development in their personal and professional surroundings (motivation, commitment to development),
  • the candidates have the professional and academic qualifications necessary to ensure successful completion of the degree programme in Germany (final scores on previous academic examinations, language skills),
  • women and candidates from disadvantaged groups who meet the required academic and professional standards and show proven commitment to development-related issues are especially targeted for programme admission.
  • targeted for programme admission.

a) The typical scholarship holder:

  • works either for a public authority or a state or private company in a developing country (according to the DAC list of the OECD) and, as such, is engaged in the planning and execution of directives and projects with emphasis on development policies having a bearing on technological, economic or social areas.
  • holds a Bachelor’s degree (4 years) in a related subject.
  • has completed an academic degree with far above average results and at least two years of related professional experience.
  • is no older than 36 (for some courses the age limit is 32), respectively his/her academic degrees should normally not be more than 6 years old. Concerning a possible age limit, please refer to the course details on the following pages.

b) Language skills:

  • For courses in German: DSH 2 or TestDaF 4; at time of application German skills at completed level A2 are required. In addition, German language courses at level A2 or B1 are highly recommended.
  • Exception: Candidates for some German-speaking or bilingual courses need a very good command of German at time of application. For detailed information see the relevant course introduction on the following pages.
  • Note: It is not possible to pass the required German language courses (DSH or TestDaF) without any previous basic knowledge in the German language (at least A.2.1 Level), even with the preceding six-month, intensive course in Germany. Passing the language test is a formal prerequisite for graduating from the German university
  • For courses in English: IELTS (Band 6) certificate or TOEFL (minimum score: 550 paper based, 213 computer based, 80 internet based)

c) Proof of current work situation: All applicants should state their current work situation at the time of application and submit the following proof: Certificate(s) of employment that include the exact position and period of employment; a letter of reference from the employer(s), ideally guaranteeing re-employment after completion of the postgraduate course in Germany. d) Statement of motivation: Applicants must submit a statement of motivation explaining why they are interested in attending a particular postgraduate course with reference to their current employment. e) Application formalities: If you have no private financial resources or cannot obtain a scholarship from your government, company or an international organisation, you may apply for a DAAD scholarship – either full or partial. DAAD application forms are available from the German Embassies, the DAAD offices abroad, directly from the University or on the DAAD website. Applications from Cameroon, Myanmar and Nigeria must be submitted via the German Embassy. Applicants from the People’s Republic of China are asked to submit an APS Certificate, as well as 2 address labels written in Chinese characters with their application documents. Please be sure to address applications sent to the DAAD directly to DAAD Section 431! Required documents (in the following order):

  • hand-signed CV (please use the europass specimen form at http://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/)

  • confirmation of employment from the employer in your home country and if possible, a guarantee of re-employment upon your return home
  • Proof of language abilities:

– English – IELTS or TOEFL (Note: Institutional TOEFL will not be accepted) – German – necessary for the courses taught in German; for the courses taught in English, if available

  • certified copies of awarded academic degrees
  • certified copies of academic transcripts
  • certified copy of School Leaving Certificate

Note: Some courses may require additional documents. For detailed information, please see the relevant course description on the following pages. All documents must be submitted as identical duplicates. Applications that do not clearly state the desired degree course or are not completed in full, cannot be processed and will not be considered. If applying to more than one course, please list courses in order of priority. You must send one full set of application documents for each course applied to. All submitted applications forms, including all required documents, copies, etc. become property of the DAAD. The applicant has no right to payment or reimbursement. No documents will be returned. For economic and environmental reasons, please avoid using sheet holders and plastic folders in your application.

Dates and Deadlines

Scholarship applicants from developing countries (on the DAC List of the OECD) can apply at the German embassy or DAAD regional office, directly at the DAAD in Bonn or directly to the university. The general closing dates for applications are as follows:

  • University: 30th September or 15th October

Applicants should be sure to check information regarding application closing dates directly with the individual universities  because they may vary from the general deadlines listed above. The UNESCO-China (The Great Wall) Co-Sponsored Fellowship Programme 2013-2014 for Developing Countries.

What: The government of People’s Republic of China in conjunction with the UNESCO is offering 25 undergraduate and postgraduate fellowship for developing countries.

With a view to promoting international exchanges in the field of education, culture, communication, science and technology, and to enhancing friendship among peoples of the world, the Government of the People’s Republic of China has placed at the disposal of UNESCO for the academic year 2013-2014, under the co-sponsorship of UNESCO, twenty five (25) fellowships for advanced studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

These fellowships are for the benefit of developing Member States in Africa, Asia and the Pacific and certain countries in the Arab States (see list of invited countries).

AFRICA – 46 Member States: ANGOLA, BENIN, BOTSWANA, BURKINA FASO, BURUNDI, CAMEROON, CAPE VERDE, CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC, CHAD, COMOROS, CONGO, COTE D’IVOIRE, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO, DJIBOUTI, EQUATORIAL GUINEA, ERITREA, ETHIOPIA, GABON, GAMBIA, GHANA, GUINEA, GUINEA-BISSAU, KENYA, LESOTHO, LIBERIA, MADAGASCAR, MALAWI, MALI, MAURITIUS, MOZAMBIQUE, NAMIBIA, NIGER, NIGERIA, RWANDA, SAO TOME AND PRINCIPE, SENEGAL, SEYCHELLES, SIERRA LEONE, SOMALIA, SOUTH AFRICA, SWAZILAND, TOGO, UGANDA, UNITED REPUBLIC OF TANZANIA, ZAMBIA, ZIMBABWE

 

The fellowships, tenable at a selected number of Chinese universities, are of one year duration. These fellowships, which are in most cases to be conducted in English, are offered to senior advanced students wishing to pursue higher studies or intending to undertake individual research with periodic guidance from the assigned supervisor.

In exceptional cases, candidates may be required to study the Chinese language before taking up research/study in their fields of interest.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

(i.) Hold at least the equivalent of the Master’s Degree/above or the Bachelor’s Degree;
(ii.) English proficiency is required;
(iii.) Be not more than 45 years of age; and
(iv.) Be in good health, both physically and mentally.

FACILITIES OFFERED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

(i.) A monthly living allowance of CNY 1,700 Yuan for general scholars or CNY 2.000 Yuan for senior scholars will be granted covering meals and pocket expenses;


(ii.) A one-time settlement subsidy of CNY 1,000 Yuan will be granted to those who will study in China less than one academic year, and CNY 1,500 Yuan to those who will study in China for one academic year and above, upon their arrival in China;


(iii.) Registration and tuition fees, fee for laboratory experiment, fee for internship, fee for basic/necessary learning materials*;


(iv.) Accommodation facilities (one dormitory room for two students);


(v.) Fee for outpatient medical service for expenses generated in the institution’s hospital;


(vi.) Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for International Students in China against hospitalizing for serious diseases and accidental injuries**; and


(vii.) A one-time inter-city travel ticket (each for coming in and leaving China).
A hard – seat train ticket (hard-berth train ticket for overnight trip) will be provided for new scholarship students traveling from the port of entry upon registration to the city where the admitting institution of Chinese language institution or preparatory education institution is located; students traveling from the Chinese language institution or preparatory education institution to the city where the university for major study is located; and students traveling from the city where the institution is located to the nearest port of departure upon graduation.

*Costs beyond the university’s arrangements should be self-afforded.


**The students are to cover a certain percentage of expenses.Claim for compensation with the relevant payment receipts may be asked from the insurance company according to the stipulated insurance articles. The individual claim will not be accepted by the insurance company.

FACILITIES OFFERED BY UNESCO

(i.) International travel to and from China; and


(ii.) Monthly allowance of US $150 to be paid in local currency (Chinese RMB) during their stay in China, in addition to the living allowance granted by the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

Important: No allowance to finance or lodge married couples or family members will be granted.

(Note : It is the National authorities’ responsibility to ensure that all candidates are duly informed of all the above-mentioned conditions before the submission of applications for the fellowships.)

 

PROCEDURE FOR THE SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS

All applications should be endorsed by the relevant Government body (the National Commission or Permanent Delegation) and must be made in English with the following attachments:

(i.) Application form for UNESCO/China (The Great Wall) Fellowship in triplicate;


(ii.) 3 photographs;


(iii.) Notarized photocopies of diplomas and certificates, and school-certified transcripts of complete academic records (translated in English when applicable), in triplicate;


(iv.) Copy of the university’s invitation letter, for those students who have been admitted in advance by a Chinese university, in triplicate;


(v.) Two letters of recommendation (in English) by professors or associate professors familiar with the work of the candidate, in triplicate;


(vi.) A study or research proposal containing no less than 400 words (in English) of the post-graduate study to be undertaken during the candidate’s stay in China, in triplicate;


(vii.) Foreigner Physical Examination form to be completed and communicated to UNESCO by 15 March 2012 (copy attached), in triplicate; and


(viii.) English language proficiency certificate, in triplicate.

*When completing the form, each candidate is requested to specify 3 possible host institutions in China indicating one field of study as personal preference.

SUBMISSION OF CANDIDATURES

The letter of nomination should reach UNESCO (Attention: Ali Zaid, Chief of the Fellowships Programme Section) 7 Place de Fontenoy, 75352 Paris 07 SP, France, imperatively on or before 10 April 2013. An advance copy of the application can be sent by fax (number +33-1 45 68 55 03) or by email ([email protected]).

Files which are not complete or which are received after the above deadline, as well as candidates who do not fulfill the above-mentioned requirements, will not be taken into consideration.

SELECTION OF BENEFICIARIES

The Chinese authorities will select the twenty-five (25) most qualified candidates. The National Commissions of the selected fellows will be duly informed by UNESCO.

Candidates not informed of their selection by 31 August 2013 should consider that their applications have not been approved

Wells Mountain Foundation Scholarship 2013 for Students from Developing Countries.

The Wells Mountain Foundation is a public charitable foundation based in Bristol, Vermont, USA, which has been approved under the United States Internal Revenue Service under Section 501(c)(3). The purpose of the Foundation is primarily to support programs and individuals in developing nations or other situations of extreme poverty.

Each year the Foundation’s Empowerment Through Education program provides support to students as they pursue various educational objectives. Support is provided for post-secondary school (college, university, polytechnic,trade school).
Support is not provided for graduate degrees or study in the US, UK or other developed countries.
Financial support is primarily to cover the costs of the education itself and directly related expenses including books and supplies. Scholarships are generally granted for the full period of study , however, recipients must maintain good grades and provide copies of all semester reports and grades as they are received.
The scholarship can be discontinued at any time in the event of unsatisfactory performance. The scholarship awards are determined by the Scholarship Committee of the Board of Directors of the Wells Mountain Foundation and awarded once a year.
Applications must be received by April 1, 2013 to be considered for the 2013-2014 school year.
We highly recommend that you review the FAQ for Scholars section on our website before you complete the application (see www.wellsmountainfoundation.org) . Incomplete applications will be discarded unread.
Applicants will be notified if they have been selected as a WMF Scholar
by approximately August 1, 2013 , with funding for the first semester by September 1.

The  Ideal Candidate
  • A student, male or female, from a country in the developing world, who: successfully completed a secondary education, with good to excellent grades will be studying in their country or another country in the developing world plans to live and work in their own country after they graduate has volunteered prior to applying for this scholarship and/or is willing to volunteer while receiving the WMF scholarship may have some other funds available for their education, but will not be able to go to school without a scholarship submits a complete, legible 2013 application in English (please proof read). Because we receive so many applications, incomplete applications will not be considered.
What we can pay for (the scholarships range from $300.US to$3000.US):
  • tuition and fees
  • books and materials
  • room rent and meals

When is the deadline to apply for a scholarship?

 There is only one deadline a year and that is April 1. We must receive mailed applications by that date, so allow 2-3 weeks for delivery via post.
  • We review all applications and notify the new scholarship recipients by email around August 1. We will also post the names of the new WMF scholarship recipients on our website by August 1.
  • Those not receiving a scholarship will not be individually notified. We wish we could communicate with all of you individually, but the number of applicants is just too great.
