RSTMH Early Career Grants Programme 2024 for Global Health Professionals & Innovators ( £5,000 grant)

Applications are now open for the 2024 RSTMH Early Career Grants Programme. The RSTMH Early Career Grants Programme provides grants every year to those early in their career, from anywhere in the world, to carry out their first piece of research into tropical medicine or global health. 

Requirements

  • The RSTMH Early Career Grants are aimed at individuals who have not received a research grant of £5,000 or more in their own name before, who are able to develop and deliver their first research project

Grant amount: 

  • The maximum RSTMH Early Career Grant award is £5,000 (including any taxes on relevant purchases)

Duration of grant project: 

  • Project should take up to one year to be completed and should start within 3 months of receiving funding

RSTMH Early Career Grants Programme 2023 for Global Health Professionals & Innovators ( £5,000 grant)

Applications are now open for the 2023 RSTMH Early Career Grants Programme. Applications for grants of up to £5,000 (GBP) are welcomed from early career researchers and global health professionals based anywhere in the world, who have not had research funding of £5,000 (GBP) or more in their own name before.  The projects can be on any topic related to tropical medicine and global health, from across the research spectrum of lab, translation, implementation and policy, and should take up to one year.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Anyone early in their research career with any nationality based anywhere in the world can apply. The overall aim of the Programme is to encourage and inspire the next generation of global health leaders, innovators and professionals by providing the opportunity for them to carry out projects which could improve tropical medicine or global health.
  • Only RSTMH members can receive the funding, but anyone can apply.
  • If successful, applicants who are not already members of RSTMH will have their membership funded by one of our partners, or RSTMH will deduct it from their award. 


Candidates should not have received a research grant of £5,000 or more in their own name before. They should be to be able to:

  • Carry out research under supervision
  • Have the ambition to develop knowledge of research methodologies and discipline
  • Have demonstrated a good understanding of a field of study
  • Demonstrate the ability to produce data under supervision
  • Use critical analysis, evaluation and be able to synthesise new and complex ideas
  • Competently explain the outcome of their research and value thereof to colleagues

RSTMH Early Career Grants Programme 2022 for Global Health Professionals & Innovators ( £5,000)

The RSTMH Early Career Grants Programme is still for those early in their research careers, and for whom the grants represent an exciting and important opportunity. The Early Career Grants Programme 2022 is open for applications from early career researchers and global health professionals based anywhere in the world, who have not had research funding in their own name before.

They can apply for a grant of up to £5,000 (GBP) to deliver a project over one year. The projects can be on any topic related to tropical medicine and global health, from across the research spectrum of lab, translation, implementation and policy.

Applications can be on any area of tropical medicine or global health. RSTMH’s thematic priorities in its current strategy, plus other areas of health that are less well known are encouraged. These are listed below:

These are listed below:

  • Neglected tropical diseases, with a particular focus on their overlap with non-communicable Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), with a particular focus on their overlap 
    with Non-Communicable Diseases and the Sustainable Development Goals
  • Malaria, with a particular focus on drug resistance
  • One Health and wider planetary health. The consideration of human health alongside animal health and the environment, in the context of social, economic 
    and political factors
  • Topical issues including, but not limited to, emerging diseases 
  • Drug resistant infections
  • Snakebite
  • Mycetoma and other skin NTDs 
  • Co-morbidity and NCDs
  • Coronavirus
  • Climate change

The maximum RSTMH Early Career Grant award is £5,000 (including any taxes on relevant purchases) and for up to one year in duration.

Eligibility

Anyone in their early research career from any nationality based anywhere in the world can apply. The overall aim of the programme is to encourage and inspire the next generation of global health leaders and innovators to explore their ideas.

Only RSTMH members can receive the funding.
