Each year, the WISE Awards recognize and promote six successful innovative projects that are addressing global educational challenges. Since 2009, WISE has received more than 2,850 applications from over 150 countries.

The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), an initiative of QATAR FOUNDATION, invites applications for the 2016 WISE Awards.

The 2016 WISE Awards will identify, celebrate, and promote six innovative projects for their positive contribution to education and society. The Awards highlight initiatives found to be most creative and effective in finding solutions to education challenges at any level and in all environments. In bringing forward these models, WISE is helping build a network of recognized change-makers to inspire change in education.

Representatives of projects are invited to submit applications to demonstrate the nature and reach of their activities. Nominations of projects are also invited. Past winning projects have addressed a wide range of concerns and pursuits, including access to quality education, life-long learning opportunities, and the use of technology.

Today, 42 projects have been awarded, from a wide variety of sectors and locations for their innovative character, their positive contribution and their potential for scalability and adaptability. These projects represent a growing resource of expertise and sound educational practice.

Year by year, WISE is building a community of educational innovators which offers a fertile environment for groundbreaking collaborations. Today the WISE Awards network comprises pioneering projects that are helping bring real change to societies and communities.

Eligibility Requirements:

The 2016 WISE Awards submission procedure accepts both applications and nominations. Ongoing/existing education projects run by any type of organization

1 in any education sector

2 and from any part of the world can apply or be nominated for the WISE Awards.

Applications can only be for original works and original projects and must be submitted by a project representative working within the project.
All applicants must therefore guarantee that their organization, or they themselves, originated the project, and can not hold QATAR FOUNDATION liable for any action or claim from a third party with respect to the project submitted.
Nominations can be submitted by persons outside the organization running the project.
Nominators will be requested to identify themselves in the submission form; this information will be kept confidential by QATAR FOUNDATION.
Nominators may or may not request information from the project in order to best complete the nomination form

Selection Process:

Project representatives from any region, educational sector or level may submit applications which demonstrate the quality and impact of their activities in accordance with the criteria.
Following this global annual call for applications, a Pre-Jury composed of education experts assesses the submissions to select the Finalists.
Following this, a Jury bringing together leading personalities from the education world chooses the six Award winning projects. Winners receive global visibility along with a prize of $20,000 (US) and are honored at the annual WISE Summit.

The winning projects each receive international recognition, as well as a cash prize of $20,000 (US). The six winners and Finalists are given support and visibility through:

Members of the WISE Awards network gain global visibility and are given an opportunity to collaborate through various platforms:

WISE Communications: Projects recognized by WISE are featured on the website, showcased and shared with the WISE community via social media. WISE media partner Euronews also promotes the Award-winning projects on the weekly television magazine Learning World.

Multimedia productions: Special documentaries and videos are produced to showcase the work of the winning projects.

WISE Books: Several WISE Awards finalists and winning projects have been featured in WISE Book s which explore current challenges and solutions facing 21st-century education.

The Annual Summit: Representatives from Award winning projects are also given the opportunity to present and discuss their work at a dedicated Summit session during the annual WISE Summit in Doha, Qatar. In addition, projects are offered an opportunity to participate in global events organized in collaboration with WISE.

Timeline:

The deadline for submission of applications is January 15, 2016, 13.00 GMT.
The Pre-Jury will then review all eligible applications.
The shortlisted 15 Finalist Projects will be announced in April 2016.
The 15 Finalists may be visited onsite by the WISE film team.
An independent Innovation Assessment will be organized, as described below.
The Jury will review all the 15 Finalists and the evaluations conducted onsite.

The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) was established by Qatar Foundation in 2009 under the leadership of its Chairperson, Her Highness Sheikha Moza bin Nasser. WISE is an international, multi-sectoral platform for creative thinking, debate, and purposeful action.

WISE is a global reference in new approaches to education. Through the annual Summit and a range of ongoing programs, WISE is promoting innovation and building the future of education through collaboration.

The annual WISE Summit will take place 3-5 November 2015, in Doha, Qatar.

The WISE Learners’ Voice Program brings the perspectives of young people to the challenge of rethinking education, and equips them to take on leading roles in their fields and in the world of education. The Program is based on the idea that when learners are co-creators of their learning environments, they become active participants invested as stakeholders in the progress of their communities. The Program focuses on building knowledge of education, social entrepreneurship, leadership, and communication skills.

Since 2013, Learners have followed a tailor-made yearlong Executive Education Program.

The Learners participate in the annual WISE Summit and in two intensive residential sessions delivered by expert faculty. These are supplemented by practical workshops and various online and on-site activities. In a key component of the Program, the learners form teams to conceive, design, and implement grassroots projects that address critical education challenges. Selected projects, developed throughout the year, are presented at the WISE developed throughout the year, are presented at the WISE.

Cost:

Qatar Foundation will cover all Program-related expenses, including flights and accommodation, for the selected Learners

Eligibility

In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:

Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 25 on November 1, 2015. All students must be considered legal adults in their home country.
Participants must be able to travel to Doha, Qatar, and be able and willing to participate in the full, mandatory WISE Learners’ Voice event beginning on November 1, 2015 and ending on November 5, 2015.
Participants must be able to take part in two mandatory residential sessions (10 days each) from January 3–15, 2016 in Doha, Qatar, and June 1–14, 2016 in Madrid, Spain.
Participants must be willing to contribute to online discussions prior to the event and to work with the WISE Team to prepare for a successful WISE Summit.
Participants must be able to continue their involvement with the Learners’ Voice Program following the WISE Summit, and participate in all Program events and activities during the remainder of 2015 and throughout 2016.
All participants must hold a passport that is valid for at least 18 months following the WISE Summit dates of November 3-5, 2015.
All participants should be able to demonstrate their academic and/or professional achievements and experiences to date.
All participants must be able to demonstrate their engagement in wider social networks or communities broadly associated with their studies and/ or professional interests
Participants should be able to demonstrate interest and/or involvement in education and other wider global development issues
Participants should be friendly, flexible and able to work well in multicultural, multinational teams.
Participants should be comfortable with presenting and speaking in public. Participants should have strong active listening skills.
All participants should be proficient in spoken and written English.

World Innovation Summit for Education Learners’ Voice Program 2013.

World Innovation Summit for Education is now looking for a further 30 outstanding young learners aged 18 to 25 to apply or be nominated to join this growing global community. They will be invited to attend the WISE Summit in Doha from October 29 to 31, as well as a pre-Summit workshop that will start on October 27, and may be involved in year-long activities during the rest of 2013 and throughout 2014. Qatar Foundation will cover all fares and accommodation costs for the selected Learners.

An Ongoing Year-Long Program

WISE Learners’ Voice brings the views of students to the issue of rethinking education. The Program builds their communication, entrepreneurship, and leadership skills to ensure that decision-makers hear their all-important voice, and that they are prepared to take on leading roles in their field and the education world.

A Growing and Active Community

In 2013, 30 outstanding young people aged 18 to 25 will be joining the WISE Learners’ network. The Call for Nominations and Applications will be open until June 25, 2013, 18.00 GMT.

The current Learners’ Voice community consists of 78 Learners who were recruited in 2010, 2011 and 2012. They are from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, and from all around the world. They share a passion for education, and together they represent the unique perspective of the learning community in WISE.

The 2012 Learners, who played an active role in last year’s Summit, are currently taking part in a year-long Executive Education Program that combines online sessions, theoretical lectures, practical workshops and project-based work. They are also making their voice heard at a number of international conferences and will present their work at the 2013 WISE Summit.

Learners can either apply personally or be nominated.

WISE invites representatives of institutions, organizations, programs and networks around the world to nominate highly motivated learners with outstanding or original academic/learning experiences to participate in the WISE Learners’ Voice Program. WISE is also inviting highly motivated learners to apply for the Learners’ Voice Program by submitting an application form that needs to be endorsed by 2 referees.

Learner Selection Criteria

1. Age and status: Participants must be between the ages of 18 and 25 on October 29, 2013.
All students must be considered legal adults in their home country.

2. Availability: Participants must be available to travel to Doha, Qatar, and be able and willing to participate in the full WISE Learners’ Voice event beginning at 9:00 on October 27, 2013 and ending at 16:00 on October 31, 2013.

3. Participants should be willing to contribute to online discussions prior to the event and to work with the WISE Team to prepare for a successful WISE Summit.

4. Continuing involvement and participation: Participants should be willing to continue their involvement with the WISE initiative following the WISE Summit and participate in other events and activities during the remainder of 2013 and throughout 2014 and beyond. In particular, the WISE Learners’ Voice Program is designing 3 short residential education workshops (5 to 10 days each) to take place in December 2013, June 2014 and October/November 2014, just before the Summit.

5. All participants must hold a passport that is valid for at least 18 months following the WISE Summit to be held October 29-31, 2013.

6. College/university or training program attendance: All participants should be currently enrolled in (or recently graduated from) a course of study at a recognized college, university or training program.

7. Social engagement: All participants should be able to demonstrate their engagement in wider social networks or communities of practice broadly associated with their studies and their professional interests.

8. Professional and wider interests: Participants should be able to demonstrate interest in education and other wider global development issues.

9. Personality: Participants should be personable and able to work well in multicultural, multinational teams.

10. Communication skills: Participants should be comfortable with presenting and speaking in public.

11. Language skills: All participants should be proficient in spoken and written English.

12. All nominators and applicants must agree to respect all final participant selection decisions made by the WISE Team. No appeal or claim will be accepted.

The World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE), an initiative of QATAR FOUNDATION, invites applications for the 2013 WISE Awards. These Awards recognize, showcase and promote educational projects and activities that
have demonstrated a transformative impact upon societies and communities over a period of time.

The 2013 WISE Awards will celebrate six innovative educational projects for their positive contribution within a community or society. WISE seeks to share best practices world over and inspire others to spark change in education. The WISE Awards thus highlight today’s most innovative solutions and approaches that are addressing educational challenges confronting the world at large.

Project holders from any region, educational sector or level are encouraged to submit applications which demonstrate the quality and impact of their activities in accordance with the criteria.

ELIGIBILITY OF APPLICANTS

Eligible applicants are individuals, representing a project and the team associated with it, working in any sector of education, any type of organization and from any part of the world, whose achievements can be considered as outstanding.
Contact details and complete information on two external referees (e.g. former donors, local governments, other NGOs, etc.) must be included in all applications.
Only one application can be submitted for a single education activity or project. If more than one application is received for the same activity or project, all applications for that project will be deemed to be ineligible.
If the project is limited in duration, the applicant must provide a beginning and end date on the application form.
The initial applicant will be the recipient of the Award celebrated on stage during the Awards Ceremony held in Doha during the WISE Summit, October 29 – 31, 2013. Teams of individuals should select a project
representative to apply and be the recipient of the Award.
People working for the WISE initiative in any way are not eligible to apply.

SUBMISSION PROCESS

Applications must be submitted online to http://www.wise-qatar.org/awards on the official application form that is also available at http://www.wise-qatar.org/awards. All applications should be uploaded using the filename “projectname.doc”.
The language of applications for the 2013 WISE Awards is English. Whilst the quality of written English is not a criterion for assessing applications, it is strongly recommended that applicants whose first language is not English pay particular attention to ensuring that their applications can be properly understood in English.
In the event of failure of the online application system due to exceptional circumstances, applicants should request a special dispensation from QATAR FOUNDATION before the final deadline for submission on [email protected] allowing them to post hard copies of their applications to the postal address that will be provided.
Requests for dispensation after the deadline will not be considered.

The WISE Awards are not intended to be a source of funding for new and untried ideas, and any such applications will not be considered. All applications must include evidence of the existing and current educational achievements of the project. General enquiries for funding support and submission of curricula vitae will also not be considered.

TIME SCHEDULE

The Pre-Jury will then review all eligible applications.
The pre-selection of the 12 Finalists will be announced during June 2013.
The 12 Finalists will then be evaluated by an external team visiting the project onsite.

The Awards ceremony will take place during the 2013 WISE Summit held in Doha, Qatar, on October 29-31, 2013
