The International Day of Peace is a day for strengthening the ideals of peace within ourselves, our communities and throughout the world.

Peace means different things to different people around the world. To celebrate the International Day of Peace, 21st of September, vision of humanity is  launching a month long photography exhibition and asking you to show us what you think peace looks like.

What does peace look like?

We often talk about what peace means, or the various factors that contribute to peaceful societies, but sometimes we forget to think what peace might look like. We want to know how different people around the world see peace. All entries will be showcased on our website and Facebook page. When the competition has finished, we’ll create a collage of all the images  so you can see what peace looks like according to different people around the world.

How to enter

What does peace look like to you? Simply take a photo of what you think peace looks like and send it via email to [email protected]

Please be sure to include your name, contact email address, and a brief description of what you think peace looks like and why.

What’s up for grabs?

The winner of the competition will receive a copy of the groundbreaking documentary Soldiers of Peace and a Soliders of Peace cap.

Meet the judges.

Steve Killelea, Founder of the Institute for Economics and Peace (the brains trust behind Vision of Humanity) will be judging the photos. Steve is an avid photographer himself and has a keen eye for beautiful images. More judges to be announced shortly.

Life In My City Art Initiative,( The organiser of Life in My City Art Festival), hereby invites entries for Life in My City Photo Africa as part of the 2013 Life In My City Art Festival holding  in Enugu, Nigeria.October 2013.

Photo Africa is an international photo contest for African photographers who will be not more than 35 years of age by October 12th, 2013, living and working in Africa. Submitted works are expected to portray interesting current living conditions in the African city as seen through the lens of photographer, bearing in mind that one of the aims of the Life In My City Art Festival is to provide a platform for young artists to make meaningful statements about their environment.

The organisers will work in collaboration with other international Photo organizations such as Addis Foto Fest working for the promotion of photography in Africa.

The theme of Photo Africa contest is: Life in My City!

Entry photographs will be submitted for the consideration by a Jury of high calibre photo professionals who will assemble in Enugu, Nigeria.

Prize:
The prize for the winning entry will be USD 1,000.00 and a one week trip to Enugu, Nigeria during Life in My City Art Festival.

 ORGANISATION / PROCESS OF THE CONTEST

Overview:The contest has three stages:
Stage 1:

Each photographer is allowed to enter not more than two photographs sent by email to the address below. The Jury will first of all prepare a shortlist of 40 photographs and the owners of the selected photographs will be contacted to send a higher resolution of the chosen entries (See Technical Demand below).

Stage 2:
The selected photos will be exhibited for one week during the Grand Finale week of Life In My City Art Festival in Enugu, Nigeria.

Stage 3:

Final selection: There is only one prize and the winning entry will be as decided by the jury from among the 40 selected photographs. The winning photographer will be contacted along with three other outstanding entrants who will be invited to be part of the LIMCAF grand finale in Enugu in October 2013.

Submission of entries:

Entries will be submitted via email attachment including:

  •  maximum of 2 photos (size: less than 1MB)
  • Fully completed Application Form (here attached)

Deadline for Submission:

12.00 GMT/UTC midnight on Monday 15th of July, 2013.
Any entry submitted after this date will not be considered by the organisers.

Dates of jury selection:

A pre-selection will be done between the 12th and the 17th August 2013.
Date of the publication of the selected 40 photographs:

The owners of the selected 40 photographs will be communicated on 20th of August 2013.

PARTICIPATION

The contest is open to nationals of African under 35 years living and working in Africa. They need not be professional photographers i.e. they need not be recognized and or be living off their artworks. Liabilities:

Each participant guarantees that the works are original, unpublished and that they hold the exclusive copyrights. On this matter, the participant will undertake all authorizations of any other person involved in his work who could ask for any compensation.

The participant surrenders to Life in My City Art Initiative the exclusive rights of utilization of the works for publicity in electronic and print media and in any other ways in the interest of Live in My City Art Festival.

The participant indemnifies Life in My City Art Initiative against any procedure legal or otherwise that anyone could raise in respect of their submitted works, for any purpose.

Participants are advised in respect of the Photo Africa contest to:

  • obtain the consent of any and all person(s) in the submitted photo(s)
  • remember that reproduction of buildings, furniture, trade mark objects or other prohibited items or products etc., can lead to copyright infringement or litigation.

Every submission made with incomplete or false data will be considered as invalid by the organiser.

Any false declaration will lead to the exclusion of the contest without any responsibility from the organiser.

 CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION 

Participation in this contest is free. Participants must be less than 35 years of age as at 12th October 2013.

SELECTION OF THE WINNERS AND AWARDEE

The jury is composed of professional photographers and professionals in the field of art and culture . The organiser guarantees the impartiality, the sincerity and the loyalty of the jury members.

The jury may put aside any photo if it estimates that it is not artistically valuable.

The jury will organize its terms of refrence and determine all parameters as it wants. Its decision is sovereign and cannot be contested.

    The decisions of the jury will take into account :

  • The coherence of the approach
  • The relevance to the theme of the contest
  • The quality of the photos : balance of image, originality, light, esthetical treatment .

TECHNICAL DEMAND :

For pre-selection, the participant has to submit quality image in JPEG (.jpeg) format, maximum size of 1 MB.

Selected participants will be required to submit a JPEG file of the selected photograph(s) with not less than 3500 x 4700 pixels and 300 DPI.

Only minor digital manipulation like exposure, cropping, contrast and saturation are allowed. For digital photography, the original signature properties of the photo should not be lost.

 PUBLICATION OF THE RESULTS

The identity of the selected photographers and prize-winner of the contest will be publicized in the media and in a form of catalogue.

The prize-winner and selected photographers authorize solemnly the organisers to show the printed photos and or dissemination for promotion and advertisement in the whole world.

CIRCUMSTANCES OUTSIDE ONE’S CONTROL

The organiser has the right to modify these rules, to reschedule or to cancel the contest. Its responsibility will not be engaged because of these changes.

ACCEPTANCE OF RULES AND CONDITIONS OF THE CONTEST
Participating in that contest means the acceptance of the totality of this rule, and the release of copyright of the photos for publicity before, during and after the contest. VOA invites you to share a glimpse of your life through photography – and become eligible to win a new iPad.

Every day, VOA helps give you insights into the world around us.  Now, we would like you to share your world with us.  Send us your best photos that help capture the spirit or the essence of the people and places in your life.

Your photo may depict an everyday scene or a landmark.  It could be something that shows the struggles of everyday life…or it may express the joy found in the simplest things.

Since VOA audiences come from around the world, we invite everyone to participate.  You may enter as many photos as you like, but this isn’t a lottery.  VOA’s judges will look for beauty, composition, quality, and the content of your subject matter.  Photos will be scrutinized for originality – copyrighted work is ineligible.

WHO MAY ENTER:

To enter the VOA English Photo Contest, you must be at least 18-years-old. Citizens and residents of the United States are not eligible to win. Entrants cannot be employees or contractors of the Voice of America (VOA).

HOW TO ENTER:

Entry forms and photos must be completed and uploaded to www.voanews.com/ipad.  There are no exceptions.   Your entry must include the following

(1) your name,

(2) a caption for your photo that includes information about where it was taken, and

(3) email contact information.

  For privacy purposes, you may use a pseudonym to hide your identity for public display. 

However, VOA does not guarantee anonymity for any entrants.  Entries that do not include the above information will not be eligible for prizes.

There are no limits on the number of entries per person, but there may be no more than one picture per entry.  Each photographic entry must comply with the following requirements:

Photographs must be in digital format. No print or film submissions will be accepted.  Scans of negatives, transparencies, or photographic prints will not be accepted.  All digital files must be 5 megabytes or smaller, must be in JPEG or JPG format, and must be at least 480 pixels wide and 480 pixels tall. Only cropping, minor burning, dodging and/or color correction is acceptable.  VOA retains the right to crop or resize photos to fit display requirements, and use said photos for any non-commercial promotional purposes.  Submitted digital photos will not be returned to the entrants.

By entering the contest, the entrant affirms that the submitted photograph is an original work created solely by the entrant, that the photograph does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy/publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other party has any right, title, claim, or interest in the photograph.

The judges reserve the right to examine original photographs in order to confirm compliance with these rules.  Photographs will be subject to testing for copyright infringement to insure fairness for all entrants.

Photographs must not, at the discretion of the judges, contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit themes, nudity, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content.


CONTEST PRIZES:

The winner/winners of the VOA Photo Contest will be determined by a panel of judges chosen by VOA management.  Winners will be announced on or around April 11, 2013 and notified by email. If a winner cannot be reached after repeated attempts, the judges will award the prize to an alternate recipient.

The winner of the 2013 VOA Photo Contest will receive a new Apple iPad (with Retina display, 16gb with wi-fi & cellular) purchased in the United States, with an estimated value of $629, or a prize of equal value.  Alternate prizes, if required due to the recipient’s place of residence, will be determined by agreement of the recipient and VOA management.

The prize will be delivered in a means agreed upon by the recipient and the management of Voice of America.  The prize recipient will be responsible for any taxes, duty, other charges incurred during transit outside the United States.

Vinylplus Sustainable Thinking Platform Photo Competition 2013.

The Sustainable Thinking Platform is an online community launched by VinylPlus for young people from all around the world to discuss and learn about sustainability issues. We are looking for pictures that can answer this question: “Smart, sustainable and inclusive growth for Europe and beyond. How do we make it happen?” We have several prizes, the winner will receive an iPad mini. Hurry up and join the conversation!

More than 2,500 people from over 90 different countries had signed up to join the 2010 edition.

This year, the platform is hosting an exciting photo competition open to participants aged 18 to 30 years old. All entries must address the following question: Smart, sustainable and inclusive growth for Europe and beyond. How do we make it happen? Submissions must include a short explanatory text indicating what is needed to make this a reality.

“The promotions of ‘sustainability awareness’ is part our VinylPlus voluntary commitment. Working with young people from all over the world is certainly a great way to do this. They are full of energy, are creative and can provide valuable insights on how to do things better. We hope the Sustainable Thinking Platform can bring on board lots and lots of people united by their common interest in sustainable development”, explained Brigitte Dero, VinylPlus Deputy General Manager.

Submissions will be initially rated in a first round by the online platform members. Finalists will then be judged by a panel comprised of international journalists and industry representatives. The winner will receive an iPad Mini and the 3 most active participants will get a recycled PVC sports bag. The photo competition will run until 30 April 2013.

All pictures must include a short explanatory text – of minimum 500 characters – addressing this particular question and indicating how we can make this happen.

Participants are asked to rate other members’ work. To do that, simply click on a picture and choose the number of stars you want to award. You will only be able to vote once for the same work but you can rate as many submissions as you want.

These votes will be used to shortlist the finalists for our competition. The winners will then be selected by a professional panel of journalists and industry representatives. You will have the chance to win an iPad mini. But that is not the only way you can win. The 3 most active participants will receive a cool and sustainable recycled PVC sports bag.

CALL FOR ENTRIES: United Nations Alliance of Civilization Photo Exhibition.

From February 27 to 28, the 5th Global Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations of the United Nations, preceded by a Youth Event on February 26 will take place in Vienna, Austria.

On this occasion, a photo exhibition at the conference venue will display different perspectives on the topics of the conference.

We invite you to submit your entry in one of the following three categories:

  • Perspectives on Religious Pluralism
  • Freedom of the Media Matters!
  • A new Narrative on Diversity

The best photos will be displayed at the conference venue as well as on the homepage of the UNAOC Global Forum 2013. The best 5 photos will be printed on postcards and distributed among the participants of the Global Forum. The best 3 photos will be awarded with a LOMO CAMERA. The best photo will be awarded with 200.- €. The Prizes have been generously donated by the Federation of Austrian Industries.

CONDITIONS: You must be under the age of 35; All photographs must be in digital format and submitted as electronic attachments via email at [email protected]; Only one photo can be submitted per person; All submissions must include the photographer’s name, date of birth and email address; as well as a short explanation of the photograph (no more than 10 sentences); Submitted photo files must be minimum 1MB, maximum 5MB; 2000x2000pixels (with minimum 150 DPI); The selected finalists will be notified by e-mail. The 2012/2013 Nikon Photo Contest.

The Nikon Photo Contest International has been held by Nikon Corporation since 1969 to provide an opportunity for photographers around the world to communicate and to enrich photographic culture for professionals and amateurs alike.

The Nikon Photo Contest nurtures an aspirational community that supports photographers who wish to share important stories and influence the way people think through photography.

Submissions must be made via laptop or desktop computer;  work can not be submitted from a tablet computer or smartphone.

Entry Categories

  • Category A：Single photo
  • Category B：Photo story (two to five images that present a theme or idea.)
  • Category C：Photographic Video (45 seconds in length)
  • Category D：Motion Snapshot (a special award category cerebrating the release of the advanced interchangeable lens camera Nikon 1, using its “Motion Snapshot” function.)

Grand Prize:
1 award. The winner will receive a trophy, Nikon products equivalent to 1,000,000 yen and the opportunity to show his or her portfolio on the Nikon Photo Contest Website. *1

Eligibility

The contest is open to all, professional and amateur, regardless of age, sex or nationality.

Submission Rules

  • Entries for categories A and B are limited to a total of ten works; for example, two entries in the single photo category and one entry of four photographs in the composite category would total six works.
  • The same works or portions of the same works cannot be submitted to both categories A and B.
  • Entrants can submit one entry in each of categories C and D. This can be done on top of entries to Categories A and B.
  • Entry is limited to original works that have not formerly been displayed or exhibited and to which the entrant holds all applicable rights. Works that have won prizes in other contests or that have been submitted to other contests currently underway are not eligible. Works that are entered in other competitions after submitting to this contest will not be eligible.

Submission Guideline

All categories are open to any subject matter.

Categories A and B

  • Image data files created with digital still cameras (including medium and large-format cameras). Images that have been retouched using software or by other means will be accepted. Both color and monochrome images will be accepted. (Scans of photographs taken by film cameras are not eligible.)
  • File format: JPEG
  • File size per JPEG: more than 1500 x 2100 pixels/more than 150dpi/Up to 20 MB
  • The standard color space for the judging process is sRGB.

Note:

  • Winners may be requested to provide higher resolution images for publication or display purposes related to the contest.

Category C

  • Movie files created using the movie-recording feature of digital still cameras (including medium and large-format cameras).
  • Length: 45 seconds
  • File size: Up to 200 MB
  • File format: MOV only
  • Any music used must either be copyright-free and performed and recorded by the entrant or a person designated by the entrant (commercial recordings of copyright-free music may not be used) or be works for which the entrant holds the copyright and for which the copyright has not been transferred to a copyright collective or other body.

Category D

  • Motion Snapshot files created with the Nikon 1. Only one file may be submitted per entrant.
  • File format: MOV

Judging
