Do you want to make a difference to the development of your home country?

Applications are now been accepted from students who are nationals of Africa, India and some commonwealth countries and who want to make a difference in the development of their home country through the University of Nottingham Developing Solutions Master’s Scholarships programme for the 2015-2016 academic session.

Founded in 2001, Developing Solutions is The University of Nottingham’s flagship international scholarship programme for postgraduate masters courses.

Scholarship Worth

105 scholarships available:
30 x 100% tuition fee
75 x 50% of tuition fees
EligibilityYou can apply for this scholarship if you:

  • are a national of (or permanently domiciled in) Africa, India or one of the countries of the Commonwealth listed below* AND
  • are classed as an overseas student for fee purposes AND
  • have not already studied outside of your home country** AND
  • are not currently studying at a University of Nottingham campus or are not a University of Nottingham graduate AND
  • already hold an offer to start a full-time masters degree programme, including MRes, at Nottingham for September 2015 in an area of study within the:

    Faculty of Engineering,
    Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences,
    Faculty of Science,
    School of Geography – courses related to the area of Environment,
    Institute for Science & Society – courses related to the area of Science,
    Business School – courses allied to Operations Management,
    School of Law – MSc Law and Environmental Science.

**Priority is given to candidates who have not previously studied outside of their home country. Students currently studying in the UK are not eligible to apply.

*Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Brunei, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Falkland Islands, Fiji, Gibraltar, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Kiribati, Malaysia, Maldives, Montserrat, Nauru, Nepal, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Pitcairn, St Helena, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent, Solomon Islands, Sri Lanka, Tonga, Trinidad and Tobago, Tristan da Cunha, Turks and Caicos, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Western Samoa.

How to Apply:

  • Application for admission to study at Nottingham must be received at least six weeks before the scholarship closing date to allow time for the Admissions office to process the application and confirm your offer, before you can apply for the scholarship.
  • Any application for admission to study submitted later than six weeks before the scholarship closing date is not guaranteed to be processed in time.

2015 Gates Cambridge Scholarships to study in the United Kingdom.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships are prestigious, highly competitive full-cost scholarships. They are awarded to outstanding applicants from countries outside the UK to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge The programme aims to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others.

You can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship if you are:

  • a citizen of any country outside the United Kingdom.
  • applying to pursue one of the following full-time residential courses of study at the University of Cambridge: PhD (three year research-only degree); MSc or MLitt (two year research-only degree); or a one year postgraduate course (e.g. MPhil, LLM, MASt, Diploma, MBA etc.)
  • OR already a student at Cambridge and want to apply for a new postgraduate course. For example, if you are studying for an MPhil you can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to do a PhD. However, if you have already started a course, you cannot apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to fund the rest of it.
  • OR already a Gates Cambridge Scholar and want to apply for a second Scholarship. You must apply by the second, international deadline and go through the same process of departmental ranking, shortlisting and interviewing as all other candidates.

Courses which are NOT eligible for Gates Cambridge Scholarships:

  • BA (undergraduate)
  • BA affiliated (a second BA)
  • MBBChir Clinical Studies
  • MD Doctor of Medicine degree (6 years, part-time)
  • Part-time degrees
  • Non-degree courses
  • Courses at universities other than Cambridge

Scholarship Worth

A Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge.

Core components

  • the University Composition Fee and College fees at the appropriate rate*
  • a maintenance allowance for a single student (£13,900 for 12 months at the 2014-15 rate; pro rata for courses shorter than 12 months)
  • one economy single airfare at both the beginning and end of the course
  • inbound visa costs

Discretionary components

The Trust also considers applications for several types of additional funding on a discretionary basis:

  • Family allowance – up to £9,630 for a first child and up to £4,110 for a second child. No funding is provided for a partner.
  • Academic development funding – up to £500 a year to attend Conferences and Courses.
  • Fieldwork – you may apply to keep up to your normal maintenance allowance while on fieldwork as part of your PhD.
  • Some fourth year funding for PhD Scholars may be provided – but the termly maintenance allowance reduces per term for up to a year**
  • Hardship funding – if there are unforeseen difficulties
