The Laurie Dippenaar Scholarship for International postgraduate study to the value of R600,000 per annum for a maximum of two years is available to south african citizen for study outside south africa in any discipline at an internationally recognized university of his/her choice for a postgraduate degree – excellence is the only criteria for selection.

Scholarship Process

The following factors are taken into account in the awarding of the Scholarship

Part of the M-Net Magic in Motion CSI initiative, the M-Net Magic in Motion Academy seeks to provide 12 historically disadvantaged individuals, who are recent film and TV school graduates, with the opportunity to participate in a 12 month internship including attending development seminars and gaining ‘hands-on’ experience in the industry.

These 12 interns, who must hold a 3-year qualification from an accredited tertiary institution registered with both the Council of Higher Education and SAQA, of which film and TV was a major subject, will be selected after a rigorous selection process that begins in November 2014 and concludes in March 2015, at which time the Academy will begin.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Demographic South African citizens from previously disadvantaged population groups
  • Academic Qualifications B-grade Average in a three year Film and TV Production Qualification from a reputable and accredited tertiary institution
  • Passionate about the Film/TV Industry
  • A keen interest to join the industry and become a key driver and contributor to the development of a robust and thriving entertainment industry
  • Energetic and Resilient
  • Must be willing to relocate to Johannesburg/Gauteng for the duration of the Internship (12 months)

The Internship Programme:

  • In addition, M-Net aims to work closely with the country’s academic institutions who offer 3-year film and TV qualifications to identify those outstanding individuals registered with these institutions who would best benefit from the Academy and whose academic record merits them for consideration.
  • This is a highly structured internship, based on a specifically designed core-hours curriculum, where in addition to receiving a monthly salary from M-Net, interns will be continuously exposed to all aspects of production and broadcasting and will be rigorously competency tested. In effect, these 12 individuals will gain several years of experience in a period of just 12 months which should make them highly employable when they enter the job market.

Selection Criteria:

  • The selection criteria that graduates must meet in order to qualify to apply for the Academy includes graduating with a minimum B average final grade within six months of the Academy’s launch.
  • Further criteria requirements includes providing relevant documentation, as laid out in the application form, such as the provision of full and complete academic transcripts.
  • Shortlisted applicants will be expected to undergo psychometric testing as well as attend telephonic and in person interviews with the Academy selection panel.

Benefits:

  • Those individuals selected as interns for the Academy will be paid a monthly stipend from M-Net and will have to sign a mandatory participation contract prior to attendance of the Academy.
  • The interns will receive intensive practical training, according to a specifically designed and enforced curriculum that will encompass the following areas: Production commissioning, Concept creation, Script writing, Producing, Directing, Cinematography, Sound, Art Direction (décor, wardrobe, make-up), Editing, Post-production and Broadcasting.
  • Further, interns will access these disciplines across various programming genres such as: movies, soaps, dramas, comedies, live shows, music, sport, magazine, documentary, actuality and reality.
  • In addition, interns will be exposed to studio and location shoots as well as the creation of promotion material and graphics.

The Zurich Learnership Programme is offered in partnership with INSETA (Insurance Sector Education and Training Authority) and focuses on assisting previously disadvantaged young South Africans by creating the opportunity to gain work-related experience in the short-term insurance industry. During the 12-month programme, the learners are placed in the core operations of the business (Sales, Underwriting and Claims) and simultaneously work towards obtaining a FETC Short Term Insurance Qualification.

Zurich regards the Learnership Programme as a key economic and social enabler as it benefits the candidate, society and the insurance industry as a whole. Successful candidates receive full accreditation of the FETC Short Term Insurance Qualification at level 4 and are FAIS compliant.

The Zurich Learnership Programme is targeted at young South Africans who meet the following criteria:

  • Under the age of 24 (i.e. turning 24 in 2015)
  • Previously disadvantaged
  • South African citizen
  • Has a Grade 12 qualification or equivalent
  • Is able to communicate (speak, read, write) in English, and being able to communicate in any of the other official languages will be regarded as an added advantage.
  • Has passed English and Mathematics in Grade 12 (Achieved 50% and above)
  • Has not obtained any further qualifications since Grade 12 and is not presently studying towards a qualification

Successful candidates will be offered a 12 month fixed contract for the duration of the Learnership

Your role
As a Zurich Learner, your main responsibilities will involve:
  • Successfully completing the various learning modules which make up the Short Term Insurance Qualification as well as other learning programmes that you will complete as part of the Learnership
  • Deliver against the various objectives as agreed to in your performance contract. You will be assigned a mentor within the business who will identify activities to be completed along with specific performance criteria.
  • Actively engage with your assigned Mentor with a view to comprehensively understanding the various structures within Zurich Insurance and the Short Term Insurance Industry
  • Succesfully complete all INSETA stipulated requirements (such as the Learner log-book) in order to attain the Learnership Certification.

Do You Want To Shape Southern Africa’s Future?

 The Southern Africa Youth Exchange (SayXchange) programme promotes regional integration and a southern African regional identity amongst young people. The programme uses the power of volunteerism as an important building block for strengthening intercultural understanding and civic participation. SayXchange sets a path for the development of future leaders with a broader regional perspective, by encouraging youth engagement in civic affairs across borders.

If you are between the ages of 18 and 25, and from Zambia, South Africa, Malawi or Mozambique apply before 20 May 2014 for this amazing opportunity to volunteer for five months in a community based project between July and December 2014. Successful applicants from South Africa will exchange to Malawi, Zambia or Mozambique and successful applicants from Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique will exchange to South Africa.

Who can apply?

The program is open to youth from Mozambique, Malawi, South Africa and Zambia between 18 and 25 years who are or have been volunteers in their community.

Eligibility

  • Citizen of the country participating in the current SayXchange cycle (must be resident in country of origin at date of selection) and having lived there for the past 6 months.
  • In possession of a valid travel document / passport that is valid for the duration of the exchange and 3 months thereafter.
  • Must be culturally sensitive and competent.
  • Male and females are encouraged to apply.
  • Must be no younger than 18 and no older than 25 years of age.
  • Must have track record of leadership.
  • Evidence of previous involvement in volunteering organisations/activities in local community.
  • Must be an articulate speaker, confident, assertive and contentious.
  • Must articulate their vision and what they want to achieve clearly.
  • Must side with the excluded and marginalised.
  • Have knowledge about their own cultures and global community, including current affairs.

What will you do?

 

The participants will work for five months as volunteers in community service projects on environmental protection, health, work with migrants, children etc…

Where will you volunteer?

The chosen applicants from South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia will work in community projects.

When does it start?

The actual exchange will take place from 09 July 2014 to 05 December 2014.

World Economic Forum Global Shapers DIY for South Africans

The Tshwane Hub of the World Economic Forum Global Shapers Community has launched DIY – a web-based youth movement campaign for change. The initiative is a home for young leaders to showcase and honour tremendous positive initiatives (for public good) by fellow young South Africans.

This is done at the backdrop of South Africa celebrating 20 years of democracy. DIY aims to inspire a sense of active citizenship, self-belief and responsibility; develop and support the leadership journey and growth of young leaders.

DIYs are young people under the age of 35 years of age who took initiative to do something of public good, in their community, schools, work place etc.

The Global Network of Hubs (265 across the world) are developed and led by Young People (below the age of 33) who are exceptional in their potential, their achievements and their drive to make a contribution to their communities.

The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls provides students in Grades 8 through 12 with an opportunity to develop their  full intellectual, social and leadership potential. To be eligible, girls must be South African, demonstrate academic and leadership potential, and come from a disadvantaged background.
The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls – South Africa is a female boarding school founded in January 2007 and located in Johannesburg, South Africa. The academy was founded by Oprah Winfrey with the goal of providing educational and leadership opportunities for academically gifted girls from impoverished backgrounds.
Application CriteriaStudents must meet the following:

  • Be are academically talented and have leadership potential
  • Be a South African citizen or permanent resident
  • Family’s total income is less than R8,000 per month
  • Be currently in Grade 7, entering Grade 8 in 2015
  • Be currently in Grade 9, entering Grade 10 in 2015

Selection Process

Selected applicants will be invited to write entrance tests, which will be held at a number of different venues throughout South Africa.Further selection and more extensive testing of academic and leadership potential will follow this first round. Final selection camps lasting 2 or 3 days will be held at the Academy later in the year.

Job Description – Graduate Psychometrist – Contract Position (SOU000PE)

This graduate role is focused on in two key areas; psychometric assessment and corporate social responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:

This role will afford the incumbent the opportunity to complete a psychometric internship. The requirements for the psychometric internship are clearly set out by the Health Professions Council of South Africa. This role also involves working on the firms corporate social responsibility projects.

Some of the roles and responsibilities of the incumbent will be as follows:

  • Engage with various Service Lines to get candidates booked and scheduled for assessment and manage assessment schedule
  • Manage booking and upkeep of the assessment room
  • Maintain updated versions of all psychometric assessments on assessment laptops
  • Conduct assessments on all candidates requested to
  • Communicate assessment process and policy internally
  • Manage relationships with external service providers
  • Maintain assessment reports database
  • Generate individual psychometric assessment reports for candidate
  • Manage internal EY invoicing process and ensure that external vendors are paid on time

Intel Student Partner program  is designed to enable students at leading universities across the country to have the opportunity to work closely with Intel and understand our latest technologies.  The program is for students who realize the best technology careers come to those who chase their dreams.

The Intel Student Partner program offers technical training, incredible connections, and extraordinary opportunities. You merit sneak peeks at development tools, and industry-defining software applications. In turn, you are asked  to inspire your peers by sharing and promoting these new technologies and benefits on campus.

Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility criteria are:

  1. University Status: Applicant must be enrolled in a full time program at a recognized university in Kenya, South Africa or Nigeria.
  2. Academic Excellence: Applicants must have a Grade Point Average of minimum B (or equivalent) from a recognized university. Proof of Grade Point Average in the form of academic transcripts is required.
  3. Leadership Experience: Applicants must demonstrate that they have previously organized and lead other students in running or implementing a project or event that is of value to the University community.
  4. Familiarity with Intel Products: Applicants must demonstrate that they have working knowledge of Intel product categories, specifically Intel Graphics Performance Analyzers, Intel’s cross-platform tools such as Intel® XDK,
  5. Applicants must also be active members of the Intel Developer Zone, and have an understanding of Android application development. Android application development knowledge will be verified during interview, where candidates will be required to perform a brief technical exercise. Intel Developer Zone membership will be verified by including your IDZ username in the registration process.

What will You Get

Successful Intel Student Partners will receive the following benefits:

a) Profiling within the IDZ Africa Zone as a Student Partner.

d) Intel Student Partners will have access to mentors within Intel to support them build their global network and career skillset.

e) Monthly Stipend of $50 in equivalent local currency for every month that they are in full time enrolment at the University (excluding holiday months) which will be subject to additional contractual obligations with a local 3rd party agency that will be contracted by Intel Corporation. Additional contracts will need to be signed between the selected partners and the 3rd party agency.

f) Branded Intel Merchandise:  Branded Jacket, Branded T-Shirt, Branded Laptop bag, Branded Laptop Cover., of approximately $200 in value

Duration

Starting from 15th November 2013 Participants can apply at any time during the duration of the Program and will be notified within 1 month regarding the status of their application. Successful applicants will remain Intel Student Partners for the duration of 1 year, which is renewable subject to performance. Intel, at its sole discretion, may determine the end date of the Program.

Delivery of the Prizes to the successful applicants

Branded merchandise will be delivered to successful Student Partners at their respective Universities, during the Induction program. Monthly stipend will be paid by the 3rd party agency directly to the Student Partners bank account on a monthly basis.

The scholarships enable graduates from South Africa to pursue one-year taught postgraduate courses of study at the University of Cambridge in subjects relevant to the needs of South Africa.

Eligibility

  • The scholarships are open to citizens of South Africa, normally under the age of 35 and normally resident in South Africa who have, or expect to obtain before 1 October 2014, a first class or high second class honours degree or its equivalent from a recognised University.
  • The scheme aims to support South African graduate students of outstanding academic merit and leadership potential who would otherwise be unable to take up a place at Cambridge University.
  • Successful applicants will be expected to return to South Africa to work or study after completing the course at Cambridge.

Value

The scholarships are means~tested. The maximum award covers:

  • University Composition Fee at the overseas rate
  • approved College Fees
  • a maintenance allowance sufficient for a single student
  • a return airfare, courtesy of British Airways

Application Procedure

Further information, and application materials, are available in the University’s Graduate Studies Prospectus

Applicants for admission to the University must complete and return a GRADSAF application form to the Board of Graduate Studies; applications must be completed by 3 December 2013.

Applications will first be assessed by the candidate’s proposed Faculty or Department at the University. If successful, the candidate’s application will be further reviewed by the Cambridge Trusts and Magdalene College. Short-listed candidates may then be asked to attend an interview in South Africa.
