2015 Coca-Cola MENA Scholarship Program for Study in the United States of America (Fully Funded)

The Coca-Cola Company & the US Department of State are once again partnering to sponsor 100 university students from 8 different countries across across the Middle East, North Africa and Near Asia to attend a month-long business program at Indiana University’s prestigious Kelley School of Business, one of the top ranked business programs in the United States.

This multi-faceted, immersion scholarship program is designed to give a group of students the opportunity to learn about business education through an accelerated curriculum. The program, which begins in late June 2015, is fully funded including travel to and within the United States, accommodations, meals, and university and visa fees.

Please note that the program will take place during Ramadan and that the travel dates can’t be amended. Indiana University is well aware of Ramadan and will make accommodations for attending scholarship winners.
All Candidates must :

  • Have nationality and currently reside in the country from which you are applying and must have a valid passport for international travel.

  • All you have to do is share your business idea on how to Make Tomorrow Better in your country.
  • The 20 ideas with the most votes will automatically make it to the semi-final round.
  • Following the semi-finals, 12 final winners will be selected and will win scholarships to attend the program at Indiana University.

2015 Swedish Institute’s Young Leaders Visitors Programme for North Africans

The Swedish Institute’s Young Leaders Visitors Programme (YLVP) is an intercultural leadership programme that aims to lay a foundation for dialogue and knowledge sharing among young leaders from the Middle East, North Africa and Sweden.

The YLVP is designed to provide the participants with new skills, broadened networks and innovative tools to strengthen their work to drive social change in their respective contexts.

The participants are visionaries who are in a position to make a difference. They are young, open-minded leaders in Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank-Gaza*, Yemen and Sweden who are actively working for democracy and human rights within the spheres of society, culture, politics and media.

Who can apply to YLVP?

To apply to Young Leaders Visitors Programme you have to:

  • Be an engaged leader within the spheres of society, culture, politics or media (for example project managers, youth leaders, journalists, bloggers, activists, youth politicians, cultural workers, civil servants, lawyers and pedagogues).
  • Work actively for democracy and human rights.
  • Be between 20-32 years old (at the time of the start of the programme).
  • Have a good working knowledge of both written and spoken English.
  • A citizen of Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank-Gaza*, Yemen or Sweden

The programme comprises of four weeks of intensive work divided into two modules:
Module 1: YLVP in Sweden (17 May-5 June, 2015) 

This module offers experience-based intercultural leadership training and personal as well as group development. It also involves advanced hands-on training with the use of cutting-edge social media tools. Exchange of experiences and creative strategies in the work for social change takes place through seminars and workshops with facilitators working actively in these fields.

Module 2: YLVP in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region (21-27 November, 2015) 

Module 2 offers an opportunity to maintain, build and expand your network. All participants will meet again in one of the participating MENA countries to continue the exchange and follow up the development of their work.

Benefits

Accommodation, food and travel

All costs related to accommodation, food and transport during the YLVP are covered by the Swedish Institute. The Swedish Institute will also arrange and pay for your air travel to and from Sweden and to the location of the second module of the programme in the MENA region. Participants are themselves responsible for costs related to transport within their own countries

Insurance

During the programme in Sweden all participants will be insured against acute illness and accident through the Swedish State Group Insurance and personal insurance by The Swedish Legal, Financial and Administrative Service Agency (Kammarkollegiet).

  • A completed YLVP Application Form 2015 in English,  including your contact details and the contact details of two reference persons.
  • An updated CV in English
  • A photo (not compulsory)

2014 IDEA Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Regional Youth Forum (RYF), Tunisia(Fully Funded)

The International Debate Education Association (IDEA) Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Regional Youth Forum (RYF) 2014 is a pilot youth event in the form of training and a debate and policy competition. It is designed to engage young people who are active in civil society, debate and public policy activities in on-going debates on issues of importance to the MENA region and the global community.

It is aimed at students and recent graduates aged from 18 to 28 from the MENA region who will form a team made up of other members of their university or youth organization, who will represent that organization.

Each team will compete for two titles: ‘best debating team’ and ‘best public policy proposal’. Experts on debate techniques and policy drafting will work with the teams on relevant issues.

 

Eligibility:

  • Any team of five university students, aged 18 – 28, currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in the MENA region, as well as recent graduates, can apply.
  • These teams need to be affiliated either with their educational institution, or with a youth organization and ideally be active in contributing to civil society activities. IDEA MENA’s selection criteria include: active civic engagement of team members, leadership potential, debate experience, team diversity, in addition to a thoughtful and creative essay piece.
  • IDEA MENA operates in 19 countries in the region: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.

Requirements:

1.      Be a team of five current students or recently graduated students with debate experience, aged 18 – 28, and affiliated with an educational institution or youth organization in the MENA region

2.      Designate a team coordinator

3.      Write your short essay

4.      Complete the 2 mandatory application forms: the Online Questions (to be completed by the Team Coordinator) and the Team Members Information.

5.      Submit the application (including all the necessary uploads) by 2 October, 2014

TRAVEL AND VISA

When will the MENA Regional Youth Forum take place?

  • The final stage of the RYF will take place from 22 to 27 December 2014 in Tunisia.
  • Forum participants will be expected to arrive the day before, i.e. 21 December 2014, and depart the day after the Forum, i.e. 28 December 2014.
  • IDEA MENA will aim to release further details regarding the Forum in October 2014.

What if I need a visa to come to Tunisia?

  • IDEA MENA will arrange a visa sponsorship invitation letter and any necessary proof of accommodation, and will reimburse the visa application cost upon production of receipt.
  • Participating teams are responsible for filing their visa paperwork on time, as well as ensuring that all team members have valid passports.

Who will pay for the costs of the trip?

  • IDEA MENA will cover the cost of training materials, travel (including visa application) and a full board accommodation for each participant in the Forum.
  • IDEA MENA will not be responsible for any other costs that the participant may incur to participate in the Forum (e.g. costs for a valid passport, private consumption, additional beverages, or other incidental costs before, during or after the Forum), unless otherwise agreed by IDEA MENA

Timeline:

2.      Selection of the  successful teams

3.      Training event in the team’s country of residence

4.      Submission of policy memorandum (Deadline 15 Nov 2014)

MENA Salam Fellowship for North Africans

The purpose of the fellowship is to engage young open-minded leaders and support their growth as change-makers to effectively contribute to the region’s democratic transition. The retreat will include interactive activities, meditation sessions, lectures and discussions providing the participants with new skills for non-violent resistance. They will wield the power of their position responsibly, with care for others in their heart, as a result of embodying the qualities of meditation.

This fellowship will be the first of its kind in the MENA region to bridge this gap between inner transformation and social change, which will lead to transformational activism.
Objectives

  • Bring young leaders and activists from the MENA region together, provide a forum for networking and exchange of experiences by fostering mutual dialogue and share visions to manifest tangible changes in their communities.
  • Provide the participants with the tools to inner peace, self-development and meditation that helps strengthen their activism and place them in meaningful work.
  • Acquire Leadership skills through mindfulness, self-discipline and compassion.

The MENA Salam Fellowship in Morocco includes:

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates must be nationals and residents of these countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Syria, the Republic of the Sudan, the Republic of South Sudan, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates Western Sahara and Yemen.
  • Candidates should be 18-30 years old at the time of submitting the application in order to receive the airfare support.
  • Candidates must have completed at least 14 days of the online self-development program. Note that in order to submit the application form, candidates do not need to have completed the online self-development program.
  • Candidates should be young leaders who are actively working in democracy, human rights and peace-building within the spheres of society, culture and media.
  • Candidates have good proficiency in written and spoken English language.
  • Candidates need to pay a commitment fee of 100USD before the arrival to the retreat site (by Bank transfer or Western Union)

She Entrepreneurs is a leadership programme for young emerging women social entrepreneurs in the Middle East, North Africa and Sweden. The programme aims to give the participants innovative tools for sustainable change while seeking to create an active network of women change-makers.

She Entrepreneurs is a leadership program for young emerging women social entrepreneurs in Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Sweden, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank-Gaza and Yemen. The program aims to give the participants innovative tools for sustainable change while seeking to create a unique network of women change-makers.

She Entrepreneurs runs for one year, with participants meeting for ten days in Sweden and one week in the MENA region. In between the modules, the participants work on their own projects locally, coached by group mentors over digital platforms.

Participants are social entrepreneurs from Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank-Gaza, Yemen and Sweden who address social challenges and strive for positive social change through projects based on entrepreneurial principles. During the programme participants are provided with inspiration, knowledge and tools to develop a project for sustainable change that they have already started working on in their country or region. Through the programme, participants are also offered the opportunity to meet leading social and business entrepreneurs as well as become a part of an active network of women social entrepreneurs that supports personal and professional development.

Who can apply to the programme?

  • You should have drive, ambition and interest to use social entrepreneurship to implement a social project that you have already started working on.
  • You are a citizen of Algeria, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Lebanon, Sweden, Syria, Tunisia, Morocco, West Bank-Gaza or Yemen.
  • Your social project should be based and implemented in your country of citizenship or in one of the countries of the She Entrepreneurs Programme listed above.
  • You are between 20 and 32 years old.
  • You should have a good working knowledge of both written and spoken English.
  • You should have basic knowledge of the internet and social media such as Facebook and Twitter.

How to apply?

Apply by filling out our She Entrepreneurs Application Form 2014 and going to ourapplication portal. Deadline for applications is November 1, 2013. Only applicants who have submitted a complete application will be considered for the programme.

A complete application consists of:

  • A completed She Entrepreneurs Application Form 2014 in English,  including your contact details and the contact details of two reference persons.
  • An updated CV in English
  • A photo (not compulsory)

About 60 shortlisted applicants will be called for interviews as a second step in the selection process. The interviews will be conducted through Skype.

The Swedish Institute will contact 25 selected applicants by email before the end of December 2013 and offer them a place in the She Entrepreneurs Programme. The Swedish Institute will also compose a list of reserve candidates in case a second selection round would be needed. Reserves who have been offered a place in the She Entrepreneurs programme will be notified by January 19, 2014.

Due to the large number of applications that we receive, we are unfortunately not able to send personal replies to all applicants. Hence, if you have not heard from us byJanuary 19, 2014, you have not been accepted to the She Entrepreneurs Programme.However, you are more than welcome to apply again for next year’s programme.

GE and Ashoka Changemakers are seeking your innovative solutions that will advance economic opportunities for women in MENA, strengthen their families and communities, and enable them to benefit equitably from economic growth.

Three winners of Women Powering Work: Innovations for Economic Equality in the MENA Region will each receive US $25,000 in unrestricted funding to support their innovations. Enter before the early entry deadline (October 2, 2013) to be eligible to win one of two additional cash prizes of US $1,000. The entry period closes on November 6, 2013.

Eligibility:

The competition is open to all individuals, organizations, and partnerships from around the world.

Entries may originate in any country, but must have their primary point of impact within one or more of the following countries:

Assessment Criteria

Winners of the Women Powering Work: Innovations for Economic Equality in the MENA Region competition will be those that best meet the following criteria:

Innovation:

The best entries will be those that demonstrate a substantial difference from other initiatives in the field. Distinctiveness will be given a high ranking by the judges. Innovation does not necessarily involve inventing something entirely new. It may comprise new products or processes, as well as new applications or hybrid combinations of existing tools. Entries should describe how their solutions are driven by original, ground-breaking ideas.

Social Impact:

Entries should describe how the innovation advances economic equality for women in MENA. Entries should reflect an understanding of the systemic barriers within the innovation’s specific context, and should describe how the innovation impacts these barriers. The best solutions will have demonstrated impact, as well as the potential for scaling-up and replication. Entries should explain how the solution measures social impact through both quantitative and qualitative data.

Sustainability:

Entries should have a clear plan for reaching long-term goals and securing financial backing – they should describe not only how they currently finance their work, but also how they plan to finance it in the future. They should also have a realistic time frame for implementation. The most successful entrants demonstrate that they have strong partnerships and support networks to address ongoing needs, and to aid in scalability and the maintenance of a clear financial strategy.

Deadlines and Procedures

Online competition submissions are accepted until 5 p.m. EST on November 6, 2013. At any time before this deadline, competition participants are encouraged to revise their entries based on questions and insights that they receive through the Changemakers online discussion. Participation in the conversation enhances an entrant’s prospects in the competition, and provides the community and the judges with an opportunity to understand the entrant’s project more completely.

There are five main phases in the competition:

  • Entry Stage:
    Beginning August 21, 2013, entries can be submitted until 5 p.m. EST on November 6, 2013. Throughout this stage, anyone can participate in an online review discussion with the entrants.
  • Early Entry Deadline, October 2, 2013:
    Entries received by 5 p.m. EST on October 2, 2013 are eligible for the Early Entry prize. Being an Early Entry Prize winner does not preclude you in any way from winning the competition, nor does it guarantee finalist status. All entries will be evaluated equally at the completion of the entry period using the Changemakers criteria.
  • Entry Deadline, November 6, 2013, 5 p.m. EST.
  • Judging and Evaluation: November 6, 2013 – January 15, 2014
