OFID Development Leaders Scholarships 2017 (Fully Funded to the 2017 One Young World Summit in Bogotá, Colombia)

The OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) is the development finance institution established by the Member States of OPEC in 1976 as a channel of aid to the developing countries. OFID works in cooperation with developing country partners and the international donor community to stimulate economic growth and alleviate poverty in all disadvantaged regions of the world. It does this by providing financing to build essential infrastructure, strengthen social services delivery and promote productivity, competitiveness and trade. OFID’s work is people-centered, focusing on projects that meet basic needs – such as food, energy, clean water and sanitation, healthcare and education – with the aim of encouraging self-reliance and inspiring hope for the future.

OFID is a long standing supporter of One Young World and has enabled more than 150 young leaders to participate in the One Young World Summit since 2011.

Benefits

This year OFID will sponsor 16 young leaders (including five Colombian nationals who also reside in Colombia) who are active in international development to participate in the One Young World Summit 2017 which takes place in Bogotá, Colombia from 4 – 7 October.

  • Access to the One Young World Summit 2017 in Bogotá, Colombia
  • Hotel accommodation on a shared basis between 4 October and 7 October
  • Catering which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.
  • Transport between the Summit accommodation and the Summit venue.
  • Summit hand-outs and support materials.
  • The cost of travel to and from Bogotá.

Eligibility Requirements:

In order to apply you must be:

  • Aged 18 – 30
  • A national of one of the listed eligible countries. Click here to view list.
  • Please note that five of the places available are reserved for Colombian nationals who also reside in Colombia.

Successful candidates will excel in the following areas:

  • Evidenced commitment to the sustainable development of their country. This commitment can come in many forms; ranging from a high level of involvement in community initiatives to social entrepreneurship or from leading responsible business practices to public service.
  • Leadership ability
  • Concern for local or global issues
  • Ability to generate and articulate impactful ideas
  • Teamwork

This year OFID will sponsor twenty successful applicants to participate in the One Young World Summit 2016 which takes place in Ottawa, Canada from 28 September – 1 October.

The annual One Young World Summit brings together the most valuable young talent from global and national companies, NGOs, universities and other forward-thinking organisations. Delegates to the Summit meet and make lasting connections with peers from almost every industry, sector and country. No youth led movement outside of the Olympic Games represents as many nationalities as the One Young World Summit.

During the Summit delegates debate, formulate and share innovative solutions for the pressing issues the world faces. They will hear and be heard by world leaders acting as the One Young World Counsellors. Past Counsellors include Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, Bob Geldof, Kofi Annan, Sir Richard Branson, Professor Muhammad Yunus, Mary Robinson, Jack Dorsey and Arianna Huffington.

If you are a leader aged 18 – 30 with a passion for global issues and a track record of making a significant impact in your community, country or organisation then you could be part of this year’s One Young World delegation.

All Bar None is an initiative designed to ensure that outstanding young people from every country in the world are represented at the One Young World Summit 2016.

The Organizers have selected 112 countries that have been less well represented at previous One Young World Summits. Through All Bar None, OYS will work closely with our partners and sponsors to find sponsorship for one young person from each of these countries to attend the Summit in Ottawa.

You are eligible for All Bar None sponsorship if you can answer ‘yes’ to the following questions:

  • Are you aged 18-30?

One Young World is delighted to announce its partnership with George P. Johnson to offer one young leader a free place to attend the One Young World Summit 2015 in Bangkok, Thailand.

The One Young World Summit is an annual Summit where the most valuable young talent from global and national companies, NGOs, universities and other forward-thinking organisations are joined by world leaders, acting as the One Young World Counsellors.

George P. Johnson empowers brand-side marketers to achieve a vast array of business objectives all over the world. They are currently the largest experience marketing agency in the world by revenue and number of employees, with over 30 offices from London to Boston, Beijing to Bangalore.

Scholarship Worth:

George P. Johnson will sponsor one successful applicant to participate in the One Young World Summit 2015 which takes place in Bangkok, Thailand from 18 – 21 November. This sponsorship will pay for:

  • Hotel accommodation on a shared basis in Bangkok for four nights, for the nights of 18, 19, 20 and 21 November.
  • Catering for breakfast, on 18, 19, 20 and 21 November.
  • Transport between the Summit accommodation and the Summit venue.
  • Access to the Summit.
  • Summit hand-outs and support materials.
  • Transport to and from Bangkok

All Bar None is an initiative designed to ensure that young people from countries that were relatively less well represented at the One Young World Summit 2013 have the opportunity to participate in the 2014 Summit in Dublin, Ireland which takes place 15 – 19 October.

The One Young World Summit is an annual Summit where the most valuable young talent from global and national companies, NGO’s, universities and other forward-thinking organisations are joined by world leaders, acting as the One Young World Counsellors.

At the Summit, delegates debate, formulate and share innovative solutions for the pressing issues the world faces.

What does All Bar None sponsorship pay for?

All Bar None sponsorship covers the full delegate fee of £2,750. This fee includes the cost of:

  • Delegate access to the One Young World Summit 2014 in Dublin, Ireland
  • Hotel accommodation on a shared basis on the nights of 15, 16, 17 and 18 October
  • Catering which includes breakfast, lunch and dinner on 15, 16, 17 and 18 October and breakfast only on 19 October
  • Transport between the Summit accommodation and the Summit venue
  • Summit hand-outs and support materials
  • The cost of travel to and from Dublin is also included in All Bar None sponsorship

Can I apply for this sponsorship?

You can apply for All Bar None sponsorship if you are:

  • 18 – 30 years old with a passion for world issues and an evidenced commitment to effecting positive change
  • A national of one of the eligible countries listed below.

How can I apply?

To apply for All Bar None sponsorship you need to create a candidate profile here. If you have already applied to attend a One Young World Summit and your application has been approved then you do not need to create a new profile and you will be automatically entered into the pool of All Bar None applicants.  You should however ensure that your profile provides the most up to date information possible.

Our continent is on the rise and it is Africa’s young leaders that will take us into the future. To this end, the Mail & Guardian is sponsoring two dynamic young African leaders for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: to attend the One Young World Summit 2013, taking place in Johannesburg this year. The M&G is a South African-based news publication that prides itself on being Africa’s best read.

The M&G, as part of our commitment to developing young leaders on the continent, will fully sponsor two delegate places to this year’s summit. In addition, we will cover the travel cost for each delegate from his or her home cities to Johannesburg, if necessary. We’re on the hunt for very special candidates to attend this leadership and development conference.

One Young World generally looks for candidates with proven leadership ability, and a passion for volunteering and a concern for global issues. We want to sponsor two candidates who display that, and more. As a news publication dedicated to online innovation, we want to sponsor two candidates doing interesting things in the digital and tech space.

The Mail & Guardian Online was the first internet-based news publication in Africa, and has repeatedly received awards for its digital innovation. We want to sponsor someone who shares this DNA with us. Perhaps you have been involved in a project that uses digital tools to improve agriculture, social development or media freedom. Whatever it is, we want to hear about it. Do you have what it takes? Candidate criteria includes the following:

• One Young World delegates are 18-30 years old at the time of the summit • Demonstrate leadership potential and skills (many have already had an impact in their home countries on a range of issues) • Teamwork • Concern about global issues • Ability to generate and articulate impactful ideas • A commitment to volunteering or other extracurricular activity (evidence required) In addition, the M&G requires the following for our two candidates: • Involved in some sort of leadership or community project involving digital tools and/or tech innovation • Display an innovative approach to solving some of the problems facing the continent • Candidates must be nationals of, and residing, in any African country The following pages require you to complete your ‘One Young World Candidate Profile’ which serves as your application. You will be expected to demonstrate the following in your summaries: • Describe to us the work you have been involved in, and how it involves digital tools and/or tech innovation. • You must show why you deserve to be M&G’s sponsored candidate for One Young World Summit 2013
