Application Deadline: 30 July 2019
UNAI is proud to announce the launch of the “Summer of Solutions” – a call for applications from young people around the world to create innovative technology-based solutions to global challenges.
This is a new initiative launched by the Office of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, in partnership with the United Nations Technology and Innovation Labs, and the United Nations Development Programme.
The 2019 #SummerOfSolutions aims to solve the following climate challenges:
1. #OpenCI Platform Challenge: develop an information systems solution that can serve as a platform to enhance the access of localized climate and market information:improving climate information and early warning systems across vulnerable countries can significantly improve lives, build resiliency and support in global efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly as they relate to rural communities.Indeed, 70% of Africa and 40% of Asia and south Asia rely on rainfed agriculture. Providing vulnerable farmers with improved localized weather and climate information has the potential to increase farm production, protect property and human lives.
2. #CircularEconomy Challenge: present ideas for ICT tools and business process innovations that are related to the Circular Economy and can result in rapid and far-reaching improvements for society :a Circular Economy is an industrial system that is restorative or regenerative by intention and design. It replaces the end-of-life concept with restoration, shifts towards the use of renewable energy, eliminates the use of toxic chemicals, which impair reuse and return to the biosphere, and aims for the elimination of waste through the superior design of materials, products, systems and business models. In order to achieve the goals set out by the 2030 Agenda, a shift to a circular economy is of paramount importance.
3. #EthicalFashion Challenge: present ideas for ICT tools and business process innovations that are related to Ethical Fashion & Textiles, which can result in rapid and far-reaching improvements for society.
Pick your challenge, get involved and help change the world!
Selected participants and their ideas will be showcased at the United Nations Climate Action Summit in New York City in September 2019.
