The 2013 TechWomen Emerging Leader Programme.

TechWomen, an initiative of the US Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs is now accepting applications for the Emerging leader Programme.

Eligible TechWomen participants are women who are engaged or rising in professional careers that require significant expertise and knowledge of STEM fields and/or innovative application of these skills, and who already are –or show promise of being—role models for women and girls.

TechWomen is accepting applications for the 2013 program from women who are permanent residents of Algeria, Cameroon, Egypt, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, the Palestinian Territories, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tunisia, Yemen and Zimbabwe.

2013 NDDC Postgraduate Foreign Scholarship Program.

As part of  NDDC Human Resource Development initiatives, NDDC is embarking on Foreign Post-Graduate Scholarship Scheme to equip Niger Deltans with relevant training and skills for effective participation in the local content programme of the current administration as well as compete globally in various professional fields. The Scheme is for suitably qualified applicants with relevant Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree from recognized Universities in the following professional disciplines:

  • Engineering
  • Medicine
  • Computer Science/Technology
  • Geology
  • Geosciences
  • Environmental Sciences
  • Graduate Pilot Training
  • Agriculture

Applicants must have gained Post Graduate admission into a recognized University abroad.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • First Degree with minimum of 2nd Class Lower Division for those  wishing to undertake a master’s Degree programme and a good Master’s Degree for PhD candidates from a recognized University.
  • Gained Admission into a Post Graduate Programme in any of the listed disciplines in a foreign University.
  • Bond of good conduct from any of the following persons from the applicant’s community/clan.
  • a. Member of National Assembly
  • b. Chairman of the LGA.
  • c. First class traditional ruler.
  • d. High Court Judge
  • Persons with evidence of cult membership or criminal record shall not be considered for the award.

MODE OF APPLICATION

Application must be made On-line at the Commission’s website: ( www.nddc.gov.ng) with the following attachments:

  • Recent passport photograph
  • Local Government identification letter.
  • Post Graduate (PG) admission letter from Overseas University.
  • Relevant Degrees from recognized University.
  1. Successfully completed application form will be assigned a registration number automatically.
  2. Print the hard copy of the on-line generated acknowledgement for ease of reference.
  3. All shortlisted applicants will be posted on NDDC website.

Apps4Africa ChallengeThe Apps4Africa 2012 Business Challenge is a competitive funding program open to African innovators, startups, and businesses.

The Apps4Africa 2012: Business Challenge, an Africa-wide competition to encourage the development of mobile, web, and desktop applications (“apps”) that help address the challenge of youth unemployment in Africa.

The Apps4Africa competition began in late 2009 as an annual program that aimed to support African social entrepreneurs using technology to solve societal problems.

The Apps4Africa 2012 Business Challenge is promoting African solutions to youth unemployment through entrepreneurship and skill matching, while highlighting support for economic growth and opportunity.

In coordination with Appfrica International, the U.S. Department of State, through the Bureau of African Affairs, will bring together civil society, academia, and the private sector to support African technology innovators in creating apps that promote job creation, help businesses connect with potential employees, and tackle other challenges faced by African job-seekers. Through this competition, we seek to promote the use of technology as a means of youth empowerment; support the development of civil society and private-sector networks; and highlight African solutions to local employment challenges.

After the launch at Demo-Africa 2012 in Nairobi, Apps4Africa 2012: Business Challenge will be split into three regional competitions: East Africa, West and Central Africa, and Southern Africa. Seven regional brainstorming sessions — in Uganda, Zimbabwe, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zambia, Ghana, Senegal, and Nigeria — will bring together prospective apps developers, universities, businesses, and members of civil society to help identify needs, form networks, and explore solutions.

The competition is open to any company, startup or innovator living and working in Africa.

Applications are hereby invited for the 2012/2013 MTN Foundation Science and Technology Scholarships for Undergraduate students. Following the applications, 1500 students will be shortlisted for the assessment test to be held in 3 centres in the North, East and West of  Nigeria.

The top scoring 500 candidates from the assessment test will be awarded scholarships and will receive their awards during the 2012/2013 academic year. MTN foundation Scholarships will also be renewed for the existing 1,015 students provided they have maintained a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 or its equivalent (second class upper/upper credit).

Next Generation Africa Fellowship

The Next Generation Social Sciences in Africa program offers fellowships to nurture the intellectual development and increase retention of early-career faculty in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. The program assists fellows to develop research opportunities and skills, obtain doctoral degrees, and participate in robust research communities.

The program features three distinct competitive fellowship opportunities for early-career social science faculty who hold positions in accredited colleges and universities in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda:

The program encourages innovative research on peace, security, and development topics. This theme is intended to be interpreted broadly and creatively.

This program also offers two workshops each year to help fellows master research methodologies, engage key literature in their fields, and produce scholarly publications. The Next Generation African Social Sciences program will support approximately 45 fellows each year across all three fellowship opportunities.
