The MANDELA POSTER PROJECT.

Applications are invited to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s 95th birthday and his life’s contribution to humanity by creating a poster or series of  posters. The project aims to collect 95 exceptional posters from around the world and collate them into an online publication and travelling exhibition.

 Project Background

  • All designers and artists are invited to celebrate the life of the globally beloved icon Nelson Mandela by creating a poster or series of posters . The collection will be launched on the occasion of  Nelson Mandels’ 95th birthday, 18 July 2013.
  • The project is not for gain and is coordinated by an independent team of volunteers. The poster collection and all proceeds that may arise from the project will be donated to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust to aid in the establishment of a dedicated children’s hospital in Johannesburg.
  • The Mandela Poster Project is endorsed by Icograda as part of its own 50th anniversary celebrations.

Project Goals

  • Celebrate Nelson Mandela’s life through a collection of posters.
  • Collect 95 exceptional posters from around the world in 60 days.
  • Contribute to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust.

  • This is meant to be a tribute to a legendary man from us, the creative community.
  • You acknowledge that all works submitted is yours and you own all rights to it.
  • The facilitators of this project cannot take any responsibility for any copyright infringements or misrepresentations made by persons submitting work to this project. All work is accepted in good faith.
  • Contributors agree to donate their poster/s without charge to the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust and allow the Trust to exhibit and reproduce copies as part of its fundraising programme. The Trust will respect the intellectual rights of all contributors/creators and will not sell copies of the artwork without written permission.

THE 2014 MANDELA RHODES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME for African Students (Postgraduate and Masters)

The Mandela Rhodes Foundation has established a Scholarship programme that offers educational opportunities to young Africans with scholastic, intellectual and leadership potential to study at suitable tertiary institutions and to create a network of principled future leaders, with the capacity and will to advance themselves and their countries.

The Scholarships aim to give expression to the legacy of academic excellence, leadership, education, reconciliation and entrepreneurship.

The Programme aims to bring into being a considerable network of leaders, with different educational expertise but similar leadership capacity, who support and inspire each other and who are distinguished by their ability to:

  • facilitate individual and social development;-
  • promote peace and reconciliation;
  • pursue fundamental human freedoms;
  • promote prosperity, honour and respect for the continent and its people.

Value and Tenure:
The Mandela Rhodes Scholarship provides for full funding for up to a maximum of 2 years of postgraduate study(Honours and Master’s degrees only).

Please note that students intending to register for postgraduate diplomas are not eligible.

The Scholarship will cover tuition fees, accommodation and meals. In addition, a book allowance will be allocated and in some instances, a travel allowance can be applied for.

Criteria:

 

  • Application is open to citizens of all African countries who are between the ages of 19 and 30 years.
  • The Scholarships are intended to support individuals who will register for postgraduate study at a South African university or tertiary institution(Honours and Masters degrees only.

Suitable candidates are required to:

Complete the application form which is available as part of the APPLICATION PACKAGE, from the Postgraduate Centre & Funding Office (PGC&FO) or download an electronic copy from :
http://www.uct.ac.za/apply/funding/postgraduate/applications/

Contact between three and five referees who would be willing to write reference letters for you. A template for the reference letter is available with the application form from the PGC&FO or from the above URL.

Please ensure that no less than three of your letters of reference are from academics who have taught you at university.

The following documentation MUST be included with your application:

  • a certified copy of your identity document ,
  • birth certificate,
  • residency certificate or passport;
  • a certified copy of your official academic transcript; and- a CV detailing your work experience,
  • leadership positions, extramural activities , including details of activities within your community
  • any honours or awards you have received.
Selection process:
Candidates will be considered by the Postgraduate Studies Funding Committee of the University of Cape Town and a short – list of a maximum of five candidates will be forwarded to the Mandela Rhodes Foundation(MRF).

The short listed  candidates will be contacted by the (MRF) and will be required to submit an essay on a topic provided to them.

These candidates will then attend an interview with the panel of selectors in Cape Town in October.

All short listed candidates will be informed shortly thereafter, by the Mandela Rhodes Foundation,as to the status of their application.

The 2013/2014 INSEAD Nelson Mandela Endowed Scholarship for Sub-Saharan African Students (MBA Scholarship worth €20,000).

Description:
To honour the life and work of President Nelson Mandela of South Africa, the INSEAD MBA Class of ’75 created an endowment at their 30th Class Reunion to provide financial support for one or more African participants per year at INSEAD in perpetuity.

At their 5th reunion the Class of ’01J contributed to this important scholarship fund, as did the Class of ’97D on the occasion of their 10th reunion and the Class of ’69 at their 40th reunion. Recently the “Atlantic Group” in the Class of ‘99D contributed.

By way of their interests, activities and accomplishments candidates for this scholarship will need to demonstrate:

(a) outstanding academic achievement and promise

(b) aptitude for business and financial management

(c) strong likelihood of spending the better part of their working careers in Africa and

(d) a firm commitment to the goals of African development, understanding amongst peoples and public interest.

 

In awarding scholarships, INSEAD shall particularly seek candidates from southern Africa. Sound management education can harness Africa’s entrepreneurial culture”, commented Mr Mandela in support of this project. “I embrace INSEAD’s academic rigour and diversity, which will equip our scholars with the right management skills to drive Africa’s economic development. My hope and belief is that they will inspire a strong, globally integrated Africa.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for the Nelson Mandela Endowed Scholarship, candidates must be a national of a sub-Saharan African country and have spent a substantial part of their lives and received part of their prior education in Africa. Preference will be given to candidates who require proven financial assistance.

 
Essay topic :
1).In 350-400 words state why you wish to undertake the INSEAD MBA and why you feel it is relevant to your particular educational needs. Furthermore, explain how you envisage contributing to the future development of your country after graduation and discuss why you should be selected as the Nelson Mandela scholar in your class.
2).In 200 words analyse what you consider to be the most significant issue relating to the society, politics, economics, or culture of your country or region today.
3).In 150-200 words provide a concise but accurate description of your financial circumstances as well as a cash flow forecast for the year at INSEAD.

 
Amount of Award:
Up to €20,000
Scholarship Application Deadline:
13 February each year for the July Class (starts in August).
22 August each year for December class (starts) in January).
