Visa For Music (VFM) is the first professional market /festival of Africa and Middle-East musics : it is a new event born in 2013 and organizing its 5th edition in 2018, with about 30 showcases at the center of the project, but also conferences, speed-meetings, workshops and trainings.

This project was born from a paradox : on the one hand, the lack of visibility for African and Middle-Eastern artists at an international level and, on the other hand, a very important artistic dynamism and musical creation from these musicians. To fight against this problem, Visa For Music has as first goal to highlight the artistic creation of Africa and the Middle-East, first of all regarding the world music and actual music.

The six main goals of Visa For Music are:

Promote music from Morocco, Africa and the Middle-East to Europe and northern markets
Encourage artistic mobility between African countries and the Middle-East
Participate in the development of the local cultural sector in these areas
Develop the music scene at an international level
Contribute to the improvement of the status of artists from southern countries
Strengthen the North-South and South-South relationships in the cultural sector

After four edition Visa For Music became one of the essential and major meeting places for professionals of the whole music industry, as a sharing platform for the defense and promotion of the musical sector of African and Middle-Eastern countries, with approximately 3200 professionals assisting to the 185 showcases by the 1093 artists.

Benefits:

For selected artists, Visa For Music will borne the following expenses for 8 persons at the
most:

Hotel expenses in twin rooms for two nights maximum (including breakfast) for
international bands and twin rooms for one night maximum (including breakfast) for national bands.
All local transport costs related to the performance
Meals (for 3 days maximum)
Passes giving access to concerts and all activities for the whole duration of the event
Presence in Visa For Music’s official catalogue and official website.

Olive Writers Camp 2017 Creative Writing Program for young Moroccan writers – Casablanca, Morocco (Fully Funded)

The Olive Writers (TOW) is a FULLY FUNDED six-day-long creative writing program for young Moroccan writers between the ages of 16-21, of which 65 percent are female participants. The program will take place between the 18th and 23th of August 2017 at the American Language Center of Casablanca (lodging in a hotel nearby).

The Olive Writers program aims to hone participants’ skills as creative writers while also putting them in contact with influential writers who will serve as mentors to them, providing wider exposure for their creative work, introducing them to the publishing world, and providing them access to national and international support networks of fellow young writers.

Requirements:During the program, the participants will attend seminars on Arabic and American literature and daily bilingual creative writing workshops held in both English and Arabic.
In addition, participants will have the opportunity to attend intensive workshops in literary translation and journalism.
This programming will allow participants to revise and refine a creative project and to delve deeply into questions of craft and theory.
The morning creative writing workshops will be available in both Arabic and English, and the remaining courses and lectures will be in either of the two languages.Throughout the six days, our young writers will get to meet established writers, world-renowned poets and literary critics, from Morocco, the USA, Egypt, Canada, and UK. Not only will participants have the opportunity to discuss the art and craft of creative writing during intensive workshops and seminars, they will also have the chance to network and expand their creative community. We will have access to the University of Iowa’s creative writing videos for further instruction and discussion.
A cultural trip is scheduled for the afternoon of the fourth day of the camp. The Olive Writer staff will lead participants on a guided tour of Casablanca. This tour will delve into the cultural history of the city and will highlight Casablanca’s literary patrimony. A closing ceremony will be held during the last day of the program.

Participants will share their creative work with an audience composed of fellow writers, instructors, parents, and community members to create a deeper engagement between the program participants and the local community in Casablanca. Following the reading, participants will receive a diploma and a copy of The Olive Writers’ collective anthology.

Application requirements:

 Application form.
 4-7 pages of fiction and/or poetry written in either Arabic or English. The participants have to submit samples in the language of the main writing workshop they are applying for.
 Writing assignment: Please include 2-5 pages in response to the following:
Family, friends, region, tribe, religious denomination, ethnic groups, class, gender, race, work, neighborhood, country, political parties—in our daily lives we navigate between different markers, adjusting our speech patterns and behavior to the demands of each encounter, narrating to ourselves stories about how and why we come to occupy a particular place in the scheme of things. What do you consider to be the strongest, most central aspects of your identity? What does it mean to you to be a member (or be seen as a member) of particular identity groups? In what way does your identity influence your creative writing?
 A statement of purpose (250 words maximum, in English or Arabic) describing why creative writing is important in your life, and what you hope to learn at the program.Cost: ‘The Olive Writers’ is a fully-funded program. Local travel, accommodation, meals, and all the other expenses related to the program are covered.

-All applications must be received by 5th July 2017 midnight, Moroccan Time.
-If you write in other languages too, send us a sample in your application email, as an attachment in a separate document.
-All entries will be checked automatically for plagiarism. Entries found to be plagiarized will be disqualified without notification to the writer.
-If you don’t meet the criteria for this program ( age restriction for instance), send an email to [email protected] where you explain your situation, and attach a sample of your writing. We will see what we can do then.

Morocco Forum 2016 for Adolescent and Youth Human Rights Driving Sustainable Development in Marrakesh, Morocco (Fully Funded)

Adolescents and youth are among the population groups most affected by each of the sustainable development goals. In fact, whether or not this agenda succeeds will depend on them – their experience of engagement or of alienation, their inclusion or their further marginalization – because they are the key driving force of this sustainable development era, thus the need to invest in adolescents and young people to advance the broader ICPD Beyond 2014 priorities and Agenda 2030.

It is in this context, that the Morocco Forum will be held in Marrakesh from 8-9 December 2016 to help create a well-articulated and strengthened CSO movement in Africa. It will be a platform for young people from the African Continent, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), high level United Nations officials, celebrities and Moroccan youth, to under the auspices of the National Observatory for Children’s Rights (Morocco), meet and have a discourse on the theme ‘adolescent and youth human rights driving sustainable development’.

Benefits

One passionate young person from the selected Arab and African countries already working to promote the ideals of this Forum will be selected.
Selected participants will be fully funded to participate in the Forum – air transport, accommodation and meals will be covered. Some of the selected young people may also take part in a capacity building workshop scheduled for 6-7 December 2016.

Who can apply?

Participants will be selected based on the following eligibility requirements:

● Must be at least 16 and not older than 30 years by 31 December 2016

● Availability between 8-9 December 2016

● Must be a national and living in any of the following African and Arab countries:

● Must represent a youth-led organization, or at least, be renowned for working with youth

Must have basic knowledge of the following: The 1994 Cairo Declaration, ICPD Beyond 2014 Agenda, the Addis Ababa Declaration on Population and Development, Agenda 2063 and the 2030 Agenda.
Must have capacities for the coordination, mobilization and dialogue with young people and/or must be experienced in advocacy processes.
● Must have some basic knowledge sharing skills
● Must have interest and a demonstrated commitment to ensuring young people’s SRHR (including access to Comprehensive Sexuality Education)
Young people representing diverse backgrounds and groups are encouraged to apply, including adolescents and young people with disabilities.Preference will be given to applicants who:
● Demonstrate themselves as emerging leaders through their work or volunteer experience, community activities etc.

● Are committed to return to their home countries to share what they have learned with other young people and follow up on the recommendations from the Forum

● Applicants who have ties with other CSO sectors that go beyond youth movement(s)

International Reporting Project (IRP) Reporting Fellowships 2016 on Climate Change Conference in Marrakech,Morocco (Fully Funded)

The International Reporting Project (IRP) is now accepting applications to report on the 2016 climate talks in Marrakech, Morocco.

The International Reporting Project (IRP) is pleased to offer up to five international reporting fellowships to cover the 2016 UN climate change conference in Marrakech, Morocco.

The Twenty-Second Conference of the Parties (COP22) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) will take place from November 7-18. COP22 follows on the heels of last year’s landmark climate conference in Paris, at which 195 nations agreed to limit global temperatures to, at most, 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. The agreement, which must be ratified by 55 countries pledging to reduce 55 percent of emissions, further included the aspirational goal of reducing temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Requirements:

These fellowships are open to professional international journalists with significant experience covering environment and climate change.
IRP welcome applications from print and online journalists, including writers, photographers, filmmakers, radio journalists, data journalists, and others. This trip is not open to students.

Benefits:

IRP will purchase the fellows’ round-trip air tickets to Morocco and will pay for visas, hotel costs, local transportation and several group meals.
The IRP will also arrange journalists’ press accreditation for the conference.
Fellows who wish to extend their stay beyond the dates of the conference will have the option to arrange that at their own expense.

How to Apply

All candidates must complete an application form and provide an essay of at least 500 words describing the narrative they would pursue at the conference.

Topics might include: how countries or other groups are working toward the 1.5°C goal; specific climate change solutions (including mitigation, adaptation and resilience); security risks and migration; climate action coalitions, campaigns, and movements; climate-related issues specific to Morocco and/or northern Africa; stories related to climate change in the journalist’s home country; connections between environment and health; climate impacts for vulnerable populations; and other issues.

The German Marshall Fund of the United States and the OCP Policy Center are proud to announce the fifth edition of the Atlantic Dialogues Emerging Leaders Program. Held under the theme “Changing Mental Maps: Strategies for an Atlantic in Transition,” this unique opportunity for rising leaders will take place December 12-16, 2016, in Marrakesh, Morocco. The program will precede and include The Atlantic Dialogues.

Launched in 2012, The Atlantic Dialogues is a leading annual forum for decision-makers to discuss global issues and partnerships, with an emphasis on the Southern Atlantic and transatlantic relations beyond North-North lines. This high-level gathering is a unique opportunity for leaders from the four continents of the Atlantic to debate the changing dynamics across the wider basin and help shape the transatlantic agenda.

The 2016 Atlantic Dialogues Emerging Leaders Program

Changing mental maps and asserting an Atlantic vision can only be reinforced when the next generation of leaders is given a place at the table to challenge the established perspectives and push the conversations forward. Over the two days of the program, the 2016 Atlantic Dialogues Emerging Leaders Program combines policy workshops, creative thinking, professional leadership training, peer-to-peer learning, and opportunities for networking and exchange.

The emerging leaders will then be invited to participate in The Atlantic Dialogues conference. The organizers will provide selected emerging leaders the opportunity to contribute to panels during The Atlantic Dialogues based on their expertise and experience in order to foster real intergenerational dialogue. The 2016 Atlantic Dialogues Emerging Leaders Program will conclude with a closing session on December 16, 2016.

Through discussions and debates with peers as well as with established policy, business and civil society leaders, the selected pace shapers will have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge, sharpen their skills, and network with the other members of this growing community.

Requirements:

This call for applications is open to ascending leaders who have demonstrated leadership in their sector, are dedicated to strengthening ties across the Atlantic, have a desire to effect real and lasting change, and engage with and have an impact on the regional, transatlantic, and global agenda.
The Emerging Leaders are chosen for their outstanding achievements as well as for their engagement on social and economic issues facing the Atlantic region.
Applicants must be between the ages of 23 (inclusive) and 35 (inclusive) as of July 14, 2016.
Candidates must be citizens of a participating country — for more see below — and need to speak English proficiently.
Candidates must be available for the full five days of programing.
Candidates must be citizens of countries in these regions: Africa; North, Central, or South America; the Caribbean; or the European Union.

For the selected applicants, the organizers will be pleased to cover hotel, meals, and local travel during the event.
The Organizers also have limited funds available for travel assistance for the selected emerging leaders.

The Mo Ibrahim Foundation in association with SOAS and the Centre of African Studies-

University of London is organising a Residential School 21-25 March 2016 in Marrakech, Morocco on the topic of ‘Governance and Development in Africa’.

The residential school is for 20 participants who are policy makers, academics, researchers

or civil society representatives from any African country who will gain, through this training, new ideas and knowledge on the broad issue of governance and development.

Eligibility:

Applicants should have at least a MSc degree in areas related to Governance or 5 years professional experiences in fields relevant to the theme of Governance and Development in Africa.
The official language of the School is English
