MIT Enterprise Forum Arab Startup Competition 2020 for the MENA Region (USD $160,000 Prize Money)

MIT Enterprise Forum Arab Startup Competition (ASC) is a yearly competition initiated by the MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab since 2006. This annual competition is designed to empower entrepreneurs and foster an eco-system of innovation and entrepreneurship in the Arab Region. ASC pits entrepreneurs in three different tracks: Ideas, Startups and Social Entrepreneurship Track.

The winning teams are awarded 160K USD in equity free fund and benefit from a range of other activities including top tier trainings, mentorship, coaching, media exposure and great networking opportunities.

Benefits:

The winners of the competition are granted an equity-free prize money, hence the MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab does not have any ownership entitlements to the startup.

Participants are expected to pay for their own flight tickets. The MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab will be paying all other expenses for up to two team members per team, including accommodation, ground transportation to and from the event venue.
Other members attending the event can benefit from our special rates.

How to Apply:

Every edition has a specific deadline for application submissions. No submissions are allowed after the deadline is due.

MITEF Enterprise Forum Pan Arab Innovate for Refugees Competition 2018 (240,000 USD in equity free investments)

Innovate for Refugees Competition (IFR) is a global competition for the best tech-driven solutions addressing the challenges faced by refugees across the globe. Launched on World Refugee Day in 2016 by the MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab, the competition awarded 12 solutions with over 240,000 USD in equity free investments. The third edition of Innovate for Refugees launches August 2018.

Founded in 2005 and affiliated with the prestigious MIT University, the MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab is a not for profit avid promoter of entrepreneurship and innovation worldwide. With offices in Beirut and Dubai, our mission is to develop and nurture a culture of entrepreneurship across the Arab region. The MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab has a proven track record in promoting MIT-style entrepreneurship through its solid platform that was developed over 10 years, enabling it to empower entrepreneurs by providing opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing, showcasing businesses, coaching, and mentoring.

Founded in 2005, the MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab is one of the 28 worldwide chapters of the MIT Enterprise Forum Global, an avid promoter of entrepreneurship and innovation worldwide.

The MIT Enterprise Forum- Pan Arab has a proven record in promoting MIT-style entrepreneurship by organizing:

MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab (MITEF Pan Arab) and the Zain Group have launched the “Innovate for Refugees” global competition, supported by the UN High Commissioner For Refugees (UNHCR) and Jusoor, in honour of World Refugee Day. The aim of the competition is to find and reward tech-driven cutting-edge solutions that address the most acute challenges faced by refugees.

By participating in the IFR Competition, entrepreneurs will benefit on several levels: social reward by helping to alleviate the burden faced by refugees, financial reward through the prizes being offered, regional and international exposure through the media coverage that the IFR competition will be generating as well as credibility to their project if it becomes recognised by MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab, a reputable brand name in the region and beyond.

Eligibility Criteria

  • MITEF Pan Arab is opening up the ‘Innovate for Refugees’ competition to participants from around the world and wants to engage and reach out to entrepreneurs, amongst them refugees
  • At least two members per team
  • Core product/service needs to be technology based
  • Core product/service needs to address a refugee problem
  • We strongly encourage teams of refugees or that include refugees to apply.

Prizes

  • Four prizes of $20,000 each will be awarded to the most innovative solutions that effectively tackle challenges faced by refugees.
  • Of the four prizes, two are offered by the main sponsors Zain and MBC Hope and are open to solutions across categories including healthcare, energy, food, shelter and security.
  • The third is marked for an educational solution and offered by Jusoor,  an NGO established by Syrian expatriates supporting the country’s development.
  • The fourth prize will be crowd funded and awarded to a solution brought forward by a refugee.
  • The MIT Enterprise Forum Pan Arab Innovate for Refugees crowdfunding campaign launches on the Generosity by Indiegogo platform today.
