The U.S. Department of State’s U.S.-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) and AMIDEAST are pleased to announce this year’s recruitment for the Tomorrow’s Leaders Scholarship Program. The Tomorrow’s Leaders Scholarship Program is a MEPI initiative for capable and highly motivated high school seniors in the Middle East and North Africa who are from underserved backgrounds. The program will provide four-year university scholarships and internship opportunities at select institutions of higher learning in the Middle East to students who have the potential to become leaders.

Eligible students include men and women who represent the region’s cultural, religious, and geographic diversity and are from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds, who could otherwise gain admission to, but would be unable to afford, four years of college at an American university in the Middle East.  Tomorrow’s Leaders scholarship recipients should be prepared to begin the program in the Fall 2018 term.

The primary objective of MEPI’s Tomorrow’s Leaders scholarship program is to build a cadre of university-age leaders who are civic-minded, intellectually able, and professionally skilled, who will become the community, business, and national leaders of the future. The program intends to nurture leadership skills and the spirit of civic engagement and volunteerism among outstanding university-age students at the American University of Beirut (AUB) and the Lebanese American University (LAU).  Selected students will join the 388 Tomorrow’s Leaders who have participated in this program.

This program is open to high school graduates from traditionally under-served communities in the Middle East and North Africa, who are qualified but unable to afford a college education. Students enroll at the undergraduate level in a four-year program. Applicants must be citizens of Algeria, Bahrain, Jordan, Morocco, Lebanon, Libya, Syria, Tunisia, West Bank and Gaza, and Yemen, and cannot hold U.S. citizenship or be a U.S. Legal Permanent Resident.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • High school senior or applicant who graduated from high school in 2017;
  • Strong academic credentials;
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English. Test scores of the Institutional TOEFL (ITP) that is less than two years old will be used to determine eligibility;
  • Maturity, flexibility and leadership potential; and
  • Ability to start the program in August/September of 2018.

Benefits:

  • Participation in the program includes: travel, academic fees for four years of university at AUB or LAU, a study abroad experience in the U.S., accident and sickness insurance, housing, and a monthly allowance during the school year.

The program will provide four-year university scholarships and internship opportunities at select institutions of higher learning in the Middle East to students who have the potential to become leaders.

  • Current high school senior or applicant who graduated from high school in 2014;
  • Citizen or national of Algeria,Egypt,Libya,Tunisia;
  • Strong academic credentials;
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English with a minimum Institutional TOEFL (ITP) score of 490 (or equivalent on a similar test)  that is less than two years old;
  • Maturity, flexibility and leadership potential;
  • Ability to start the program in August/September of 2015.

 

 

Scholarship Worth:

  • Scholarship recipients may pursue an undergraduate degree in a selected field at one of the three host institutions.
  • In addition to their studies, recipients will be expected to engage in community service activities and participate in internships.
  • Limited English-language training will be provided for some participants.
  • Participation in the program includes: travel, academic fees for four years of university at AUB, AUC, or LAU, a study abroad experience in the U.S., accident and sickness insurance, housing, and a monthly allowance during the school year.

2014 MEPI Tomorrow’s Leaders Scholarship Program for North Africans.

The Tomorrow’s Leaders Scholarship Program provides scholarships for four-year degree programs to high school students in the Middle East and North Africa who are economically disadvantaged, but who have the drive and energy to be leaders. 

The U.S.-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI) of the State Department offers assistance, training, and support to groups and individuals striving to create positive change in the society.

Selected participants will attend a U.S.-accredited university in the region. The American University in Cairo (AUC), Lebanese American University (LAU), and the American University of Beirut (AUB) are the current host institutions.

The primary objective is to build a cadre of university-age leaders who are civic-minded, intellectually able, and professionally skilled, and who will become the community, business, and national leaders of the future.

  •  Scholarship recipients receive an undergraduate degree and specialized civics-based training to include a semester abroad in the U.S., as well as internship opportunities with local public, civil society, or private-sector organizations.
  • Scholarships cover travel, academic fees for four years of university at AUB, AUC, or LAU, a study abroad experience in the U.S., accident and sickness insurance, housing, and a monthly allowance.
