The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Zimbabwe is excited to issue this call for scholarship applications to invite a new group of spirited young academics to join our scholarship and alumni program and network.

The Scholarship Program is aimed at students at a Zimbabwean University in the fields of Law, Media/Journalism, Public Management, Political Science, International Relations, Conflict Studies, Peace Building, Ethics and History – always looking at their chosen subject also from a political lens.

Benefits

  • The scholarship program includes full tuition and examination fees for the standard duration of study from your admittance into the program onwards, accommodation costs on-campus or a contribution to off-campus accommodation and a semester stipend for internet, books and transportation costs.
  • Furthermore, you will be part of the KAS Scholarship Alumni Network and be invited to closely follow and wherever possible join the activities of the foundation in country and internationally.

Requirements

Scholarship applicants should:

  • be at least in their second year of bachelor studies,
  • prove above average academic performance,
  • be actively engaged in voluntary work,
  • possess a broad general education and distinct interest in political issues,
  • have a positive attitude towards democracy and human rights,
  • be open to develop their personal points of view and practice tolerance,
  • be highly motivated and able to convince us of their goals in life

Application Procedure

  • Filled-out application (see link on the right)
  • A cover letter (max. 1 page)
  • A meaningful CV in tabular form including details about your previous voluntary work or social commitment (max. 2 pages)
  • Copy of your latest transcript
  • An informal academic or employment/volunteer letter of recommendation (this can be a copy of an Email from an official university/organizational Email-account). This letter should provide information about your qualifications and potential.

Having supported thousands of students in their studies in numerous scholarship programmes around the world,
The Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) is expending its international network of scholars by inviting new candidates
into the programme. Do not miss the opportunity to apply! Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Uganda & South Sudan therefore launches its annual call for applications for Ugandan students pursuing Master’s degrees in Uganda.

In this line, the foundation pays special recognition to young people as key pillars for building sustainable
democracy and promoting good governance in the present and for the future. KAS therefore offers opportunities
for moral and material support for gifted young people to gain academic qualifications and skills in democracy,
local governance and development disciplines through local scholarships. The scholarships are targeted towards
aspiring future leaders across a range of social, political, and economic fields. Applicants will have to prove their
leadership potential in order to be considered for the scholarship.

Courses and Universities

  • KAS accepts applications in the fields of social sciences (preferably with a focus on studies in the areas of
    governance and international relations) and in the field of economics (preferably with a focus on studies in the areas of innovation and sustainability).
  • KAS Uganda & South Sudan offers scholarships to Master’s students who are enrolled at an accredited institution with sound educational quality.

The Scholarship Package

  • For successful candidates, the scholarship will cover the cost of tuition as charged by the university for the
    duration of one year. Scholars have the possibility of extending their scholarships if they have met all the
    deadlines and requirements for submissions.
  • Additionally, KAS will provide a stipend for learning materials and books amounting to 1,000,000 UGX per term.
  • The student is expected to meet further costs, such as transport, research and other study expenses, on their own or through other sources.
  • Scholars have access to the KAS networks and are presented with unique learning opportunities through
    networking events and further resources. They are expected to regularly contribute to these networking opportunities and to submit term reports on their personal and professional progress as well as contribution to KAS.

Eligibility / Selection Criteria
➢ Applicants must be citizens of Uganda and should not be older than 35 years;
➢ Applicants must show a record of commitment to and engagement in the broader KAS network;
➢ Applicants must have completed a Bachelor’s degree and provide proof of academic excellence in
previous levels of education;
➢ Applicants must show their motivation to undertake the particular course;
➢ Applicants holding leadership positions or portraying potential for future leadership have an added
advantage;
➢ Applicants with current or past employment in relevant programme areas and/or engagement in social,
developmental and/or political sphere(s) have an additional advantage;
➢ Priority will be given to applicants with genuine financial needs.

Application requirements
• A motivation letter (maximum 2 pages) providing the following information:
o An explanation of the reason for applying for support from KAS;
o A statement of the applicant’s academic goals and interests;
o An outline of the applicant’s past engagements with KAS;
o A description of the relevant work experience (or social political engagements) related to the
chosen programme of study;
o An outline of the applicant’s career objectives and how the study programme will help in the
achievement of these goals;
• Complete and up-to-date curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages);
• Copies of relevant transcripts from schools or universities;
• Proof of admission to your institution or evidence of having applied for any of the programmes under
the scholarship scheme;
• Two letters from referees (professional or academic), signed and sealed.

2015 Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Scholarships for South-Sudanese & Ugandans

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), in collaboration with Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) announces scholarships for Bachelor and Masters degree programmes in two disciplines, namely:
  •  Local Governance and Human Rights ( Bachelor and Masters Degree),
  • Democracy and Development Studies ( Bachelors Degree ).
The scholarships are targeted towards aspiring future leaders across a range of social, political, and
economic fields. Applicants will have to prove their leadership potential in order to be considered for the scholarship.
A total of 6 (six) scholarships are available and shall be awarded on a competitive basis.
  • Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) is a German political foundation that works worldwide in more than 100 countries in the fostering of social, economic and political development.
  • Uganda Martyrs University is a faith-based institution, owned by the Catholic Episcopal Conference. Its mission includes the attainment of Social Justice, educating the whole person (holistic approach) and empowering the powerless. UMU’s mission is derived from Christian understanding of the human person.
Eligibility / Selection Criteria
  • Applicants must be citizens of either Uganda or South Sudan and should not be more than 30 years for bachelors programmes, and 35 years for masters programmes;
  • Applicants must have proof of academic excellence in previous levels of education;
  • Applicants shall provide a motivational letter indicating why they desire to undertake the particular course;
  • applicants holding leadership positions or portray potential for future leadership may have an added advantage;
  • Current or past employment in relevant programme areas and/or engagement in social, developmental and/or political sphere(s) may be an additional advantage;
  • Priority will be given to applicants with genuine financial needs

Scholarship Worth:

  • The Scholarship Package For successful candidates, the scholarship shall cover the cost of tuition and the residential workshops as charged by the university. The student is expected on his/her own or through other sources to meet the cost of transport, books, research and other expenses on the study
  • Successful candidates from South Sudan shall have the cost for international air or bus tickets to Uganda for the residential workshops (also) covered under the scholarship.
  • A reimbursement shall also be made for the cost for one international return ticket for the graduate admission test conducted at the University for Master Students – but only when a student has been successfully selected for the scholarship .
  • The student shall however still meet all costs of inland travel either in Uganda or South Sudan.

  • A description of the relevant work experience (or social political engagements) related to the chosen programme of study
  • An outline of the applicant’s career objectives and how the study programme will help in the achievement of these goals
  • A complete and up-to-date curriculum vitae (maximum 2 pages)
  • Copies of relevant transcripts and certificates;
  • Proof of admission to UMU or evidence of having applied for any of the programmes under the scholarship scheme;
  • Proof of current or previous employment, preferably copies of appointment letters and/or evidence of past or current engagement in social, developmental or political sphere(s) (do not submit certificates of workshop attendance!);
  • Two letters from referees (professional or academic), signed and sealed.
