Irish Aid Fellowship

Canon Collins Trust, on behalf of the Government of Ireland, invites applications for the Kader Asmal Fellowship Programme. Under this fellowship programme, Irish Aid supports students from South Africa to undertake Masters or Postgraduate Diploma level studies in Ireland in strategically-important disciplines including finance, business, engineering, sustainable technologies and public health and nutrition.

Canon Collins Trust invites applications for scholarships for postgraduate study in Ireland commencing in September 2014, in the following subject areas:
• Business Management
• Agriculture, Food Science & Nutrition; and
• Public Administration

Fellowships will be available for one-year post-graduate courses available in the Universities and
Institutes of Technology listed on www.educationinireland.ie.

The fellowships include tuition fees, a return flight to Ireland, and monthly stipend, insurance and a
settling in allowance. Applicants must apply separately to the university but need do this only once an offer of a fellowship has been made.

The fellowship programme has two strands:

Eight annual awards for postgraduate study in

Business Management;
Agriculture, Food Science & nutrition; and
Public Administration

2. A fellowship in Human Rights Law at Trinity College Dublin to be selected by the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (CASAC)

Are you eligible?

To apply for this scholarship through the Canon Collins Trust you must:

be a national of South Africa or Zimbabwe
legally resident in South Africa
be in possession of a good first degree (minimum second class, upper division or equivalent) or about to graduate in the year of application.
be applying for a full-time one-year master’s degree in one of the eligible courses at an approved Irish university

What the Fellowship offer

The Kader Asmal Fellowships will cover:

university application fees
tuition fees;
examination and other fees
economy travel to and from your country of residence to Ireland;
settling in allowance, book allowance and study allowance
accommodation;
a monthly personal living allowance (stipend) to cover other living expense for you only and
the costs of an entry clearance (student visitor visa) application

Applicants will hear the outcome by 30 April 2014

Note:

Applicants need not apply to the university before applying for a fellowship. Successful candidates need only apply to their chosen university once the award has been made. At that time any application fees will be paid by the Fellowship Programme.

The Irish Government hereby invites applications for the Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme for the 2014/2015 Academic Year. Each year, the Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme brings suitably qualified candidates from developing countries to undertake postgraduate studies at colleges and universities in Ireland. Further students are supported for courses in their own region. Awards are made in fields such as development studies, rural development, health care, education and law.

Awards under the Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme are targeted at nine participating countries with which Ireland has established development cooperation programmes:

The programme is one of the ways in which Irish Aid supports capacity development in its key partner countries in Africa and Asia. Study fellowships are awarded by Irish Aid with the aim of supporting and enhancing the contribution recipients can make to development efforts in their own countries.

Eligibility:

To be eligible, applicants must be citizens of one of these partner countries and be residing in that country.

Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme applicants must also:

have a minimum of three years relevant work experience
be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the development of their home country
have identified up to two relevant Postgraduate Diploma or Taught Masters courses in Ireland or within their own region
be able to take up the fellowship in the academic year for which it is offered
provide a letter from their employer granting study leave for the duration of the fellowship and guaranteeing that they will be able to return to an equivalent position in the organisation at the end of the fellowship period
apply using the correct application form and by the stated deadline

Application Process

Irish Embassies and Missions begin inviting applications from partner organisations and Ministries in September of each year. Fellowship eligibility requirementsaim to ensure close alignment with Irish Aid’s programmatic approach.

A guide to courses eligible for Irish Aid Fellowship Training Programme awards is available to consult at the Embassy of Irelandin participating countries from September of each year. Embassies will also provide copies of the fellowship application form.

Once you have obtained the application form, you should read the accompanying notes carefully before completing any of the sections. You should also have identified the postgraduate programme you wish to undertake. The deadline for submission of the form is 31st December but earlier submission to the Irish Embassy/Mission is advised.

When returning the form, you will be asked to provide a certified photocopy of several documents. (A certified photocopy is one which has been signed and stamped by an authorised person – such as a Justice of the Peace, a Notary Public, a lawyer or a solicitor, etc – as being true and correct. The authorised person needs to sign, print their name and position and, if possible, affix an official stamp to all pages of each copy).

Please note that all applications for the Fellowship Training Programme should be submitted directly to the Irish Embassy/Mission, not to ICOS or Irish Aid.

You are advised not to apply for a course before being notified of the status of your Fellowship application. However, if you have aleady applied for a course at the time of submitting your fellowship application, you should indicate this clearly on your form and include photocopies of all related correspondence.
