The World Bank Group Internship offers highly motivated and successful individuals an opportunity to improve their skills while working in a diverse environment. Interns generally find the experience to be rewarding and interesting.

Eligibility Requirements:

To be eligible for the internship, candidates must possess an undergraduate degree and already be enrolled in a full-time graduate study program (pursuing a Master’s degree or PhD with plans to return to school in a full-time capacity).
Generally, successful candidates have completed their first year of graduate studies or are already into their PhD programs.
This internship typically seeks candidates in the following fields: economics, finance, human development (public health, education, nutrition, population), social science (anthropology, sociology), agriculture, environment, private sector development, as well as other related fields.
Fluency in English is required.
Prior relevant work experience, computing skills, as well as knowledge of languages such as French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, and Chinese are advantageous.

Benefits:

The Bank Group pays an hourly salary to all interns and, where applicable, provides an allowance towards travel expenses.

The World Trade Organization Secretariat maintains a limited internship programme for post-graduate university students wishing to gain practical experience and deeper knowledge of the multilateral trading system. Only a limited number of such internship posts is available.

Interested candidates should follow the procedures and conform to the eligibility criteria set out below.

Intake to the programme is on a continuing basis, with no specific recruitment period. There is no opening or closing date for applications.

General Functions
Assignments given to interns are intended to enhance interns’ knowledge and understanding of the WTO and of trade policy more generally. However, the needs of the Division recruiting an intern will be paramount in determining the precise nature of assignments.

Eligibility:

Interns are recruited from among nationals of WTO Members and countries and customs territories engaged in accession negotiations.
Interns will have completed their undergraduate studies in a relevant discipline (e.g. economics, law, political science, international relations), and shall have completed at least one year of their postgraduate studies.
The minimum age for an intern shall be 21 years and the maximum age 30 years.
A roster of suitable candidates is maintained from which interns are selected. In addition to the regular internship programme, the need may also arise to recruit interns at short notice for particular tasks. These recruits will also be drawn from the roster. Names will not be maintained on the roster for longer than one year.

Terms and Conditions

Paid interns receive a daily allowance of CHF 60 (including week-ends and official holidays falling within the selected period). No other remuneration of any kind shall be paid.

Internships take place in Geneva, Switzerland only. Travel expenses to and from Geneva cannot be paid by the WTO, and such travel is not covered by the Organization’s insurance. Interns are also responsible for their own insurance cover for illness and accidents while they are working at the WTO.

The WTO may also employ unpaid interns funded from external sources.

Internships are generally of a duration of up to 24 weeks, the length of the internship depending on the project the interns is requested to work on, and on the needs of each Division. The granting of an internship does not entail in any way the right to an extension thereof nor to a vacancy in another part of the Secretariat. Interns may nevertheless apply to external vacancies. Internships can start at any time during the year.

An internship can be terminated by the WTO Secretariat or by the intern with one week’s notice.

The Director responsible for an intern will write an evaluation report at the end of the internship, and the intern will also be required to evaluate the internship. Both evaluations will be placed on file.

An agreement will be established between the intern and the Director of the Human Resources Division, specifying the conditions of service and details of any remuneration.

Interns are treated like secretariat staff members during their stay insofar as their obligations, in particular with regard to confidentiality.

The Scripps Howard Foundation Semester in Washington internship program brings two international students per year to Washington to work at the Scripps Howard Foundation Wire for a semester. The internship is designed to give international students an opportunity to cover events in the U.S. capital, as well as to report and write feature stories for the Scripps Howard Foundation Wire. Stories written by Scripps Howard interns may be published in news outlets across the United States and in the intern’s home country.

The internship is open to undergraduate journalism or communications students who intend to pursue careers in journalism after graduation. Interns must be fluent in both spoken and written English. Interns who are selected in the program will work in one of two periods: January to April or September to December.

Interns report for work each day at the Scripps Howard Foundation Wire, which is housed in the same office as the Scripps Howard News Service, four blocks from the White House. They report and write a variety of stories. Interns also talk with experts at the Capitol, the Supreme Court, the Student Press Law Center, the Washington Post, the State Department, the Pentagon and others to better understand how to cover the news. Interns should be prepared to cover government, politics, breaking news, business, sports and features.

Applicants should be college juniors or seniors studying print, online or broadcast journalism.

The African Centre for Peace and Security Training (ACPST) is mandated to enhance the ability of practitioners to make and implement policies that improve human security in Africa primarily through short courses and workshops. The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) created the Centre in 2011 with support from the Geneva Centre for Security Policy. Based in Addis Ababa, the Centre offers short courses on a wide range of human security issues in either French or English to practitioners working on human security concerns in Africa.

In a bid to improve the efficiency of the Centre and also pass on valuable skills in the areas of training on human security issues to young professionals, the Centre seeks to recruit an intern to be based in the ISS Addis Ababa office. The intern will report to the head of the ACPST.

Duties: The qualified intern will contribute to and learn from the work of the Centre in the following areas:

Running courses and workshops: researching and designing courses; collating and vetting applications; preparing and collating course materials; arranging travel and accommodation for participants; and monitoring and evaluating courses
Website upkeep: collating and adding materials to the ACPST website; registering members; and updating the ACPST alumni and experts databases
Outreach: designing and distributing bulletins, brochures and other marketing materials

Requirements: The successful applicant will

Hold a master’s degree in the social sciences or law and be at the beginning of their career. Holders of degrees in other fields that can demonstrate the relevance of their discipline and training to the work of the ACPST will also be considered

Objectives:

The broad objectives of the program are to:

Provide students with an opportunity to acquire professional and practical experience at the African Development Bank.
Provide the Bank with a pool of potential candidates for future recruitment purposes.

However applicants should not expect the internship to lead to immediate employment with the AfDB.

Terms and conditions:

The fields of study from which interns shall be selected must be within the job families of the Bank, particularly Economics, Agriculture, Private Sector Development, Human Capital Development (education and health), Environment, Finance, Infrastructure Development, Human Resources Management, Information Technology, Communications, Law, Internal Audit, Budget, Governance or any other field of study that the Bank may deem relevant to its operations.
Special consideration shall be given to students who are working on projects that have a direct bearing on the mission of the Bank.
Internships shall be performed either at the Bank’s headquarters in Abidjan, at the Temporary Relocation Agency in Tunis (Tunisia) or in any one of the Bank’s field offices.
The program is annually run for two sessions as follows:
- Winter – Session I: January through March.
- Summer – Session II: June through August.
Interns shall be responsible for their air travel (where applicable) to and from the Bank’s location as well as their upkeep.
Interns shall be responsible for their medical and accident insurance coverage, and for obtaining entry and residence visas in the host country of the Bank.
The internship will be authorized only once for any candidate.
Interns will be provided with a monthly stipend, depending on the budget availability.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for internship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Applicants must be:

Students, aged between eighteen (18) to thirty (30) years, and currently enrolled in a Master’s level degree program or its equivalent in a recognized public or private institution of higher learning.
The candidate can apply for an internship within one year of having obtained such a degree.
Provide a letter from their school confirming their enrollment.
Citizens of one of the Bank’s member countries.
Applicants must be fluent in; at least, one of the Banks’s working languages (English or French).

Applicants will only be considered if they submit an online complete application and attach a comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV).

The African Community Internship and Placement Programme (ACIPP) has grown from a small Ghana focused programme into a West-Africa wide operation now encompassing Ghana, Sierra Leone, and soon – Liberia. ACIPP pioneers a new model called “sustainable service”, where we aim to reinvest profits into our partner organizations and into building local capacity within the countries in which we operate.

ACIPP is registered under Dutch law since March 2012.
