Government of India (ICCR) Undergraduate & Postgraduate Scholarships 2020/2021 for Africans to study in India (Fully Funded)

At the inaugural plenary of the India – Africa Forum Summit held in New Delhi in April 2008, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India announced the Government of India’s initiative to enhance the academic opportunities for students of African countries in India by increasing the number of scholarships for them to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate and higher courses.

The ICCR – Indian Council for Cultural Relations – implements this scheme on behalf of the Ministry of External Affairs.

Eligibility:

Students applying for doctoral/ post doctoral courses should include a synopsis of the proposed area of research.
Students wishing to study performing arts should, if possible, enclose video/ audio cassettes of their recorded performances.
Candidates must have adequate knowledge of English.
ICCR will not entertain applications which are sent to ICCR directly by the students or which are sent by local Embassies/High Commissions in New Delhi.
Priority will be given to students who have never studied in India before.
No application will be accepted for admission to courses in MBBS/MD or Dentistry/Nursing.
Candidates may note that Indian universities/educational institution are autonomous and independent and hence have their own eligibility criteria which have to be fulfilled. Please also note that acceptance of application by the University is also not a guarantee of admission. A scholarship is awarded only when admission is confirmed by ICCR.
Student must carry a proper visa. Students should ensure that they get the correct visa from the Indian Embassy/High Commission. Government of India guideline stipulate that if a scholar arrives without proper visa and his/her actual admission at the University/Institute does not materialize, he/she will be deported to his/her country.
Before departing for India the scholars should seek a full briefing from the Indian Diplomatic Mission in their country about living conditions in India/the details of scholarship/the type and duration of the course to which he/she is admitted. Scholars should inform the Indian Embassy/High Commission of their travel schedule well in advance so that ICCR can make reception and other arrangements for them.
Scholars are advised to bring some money with them to meet incidental expenditures on arrival in India.
The scholars who are awarded scholarships should bring with them all documents relating to their qualification in original for verification by the respective college/university at the time of admission

Eligible Countries:

Under this Scheme, the Council offers 900 scholarships to the following African countries:

Algeria, Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Cape Verde, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Comoros, Congo (Republic of), Djibouti, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea (concurrent from Nairobi), Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Kenya, Libya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Mali, Malawi, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, South Sudan (Republic of), Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sao Tame & Principe, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Under the scheme scholars are expected to seek treatment only at medical centre or dispensary attached to universities / Institutes where they enrolled or in the nearest Government hospital (Bill are settled as admissible according to AMA/CGHS norms)

C V Raman International Fellowship 2016 for African Researchers (Fully Funded to India)

Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India (GoI), through the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) have launched the C.V. Raman Fellowship for African Researchers programme under the India-Africa Forum Summit to promote human capacity building through scientific and technological cooperation between Africa and India. This prestigious fellowship is aimed to further strengthen the bond between India and African nations in the fields of science and technology.

FICCI, on behalf of GoI, invites applications from African researchers for award of this fellowship for conducting research in Indian institutions across all areas of science and technology.

The objective of C V Raman Fellowship is to provide opportunity for African researchers to conduct research under the guidance of a host scientist in India in order to advance their own research capabilities while fostering scientific and technological cooperation between Africa and India.

All fields of natural and engineering sciences, including mathematics and statistics are included under this programme. Humanities and behavioural sciences are not covered under this programme.
(a) Doctoral / Post Doctoral Fellowship: Duration 6 months
(b) Visiting Fellowship: Duration 3 months
(c) Senior Fellowship: Duration 1 month

Eligibility Criteria:

Applicant should be a citizen/permanent resident of an eligible African country having diplomatic relations with India.
Applicant should be actively engaged in research at any recognized university or research institution in any one of the African countries.
Minimum Academic Qualifications Doctoral / Post Doctoral Fellowship:
Completed/Pursuing PhD in any recognised university or research institution in Africa
Visiting Fellowship: Ph.D / M.Tech/M.Sc or with 4 to 6 years of research/ teaching experience.
Senior Fellowship: Senior Experts / Scientists/Professors
Please Note:
Applicants who have already availed C V Raman Fellowship in any one of the previous years are NOT eligible to apply.
Applicants who had applied in any of the previous years but were unsuccessful or could not avail it may re-apply for the current year.
Types of Fellowship Offered

Benefits

Round-trip air ticket in economy class from the place of employment in respective African country to the Indian airport nearest to the Indian host institute, through shortest route. Local transport by road/rail between the nearest airport and the host institute in India.

Doctoral / Post Doctoral Fellowship: ` 40,000/- per month including accommodation.

Visiting Fellowship: ` 50,000/- per month including accommodation.

Senior Fellowship: ` 50,000/- per month + accommodation (preferably at host institute

guest house / private hotel subject to a limit of` 2500/- per day charges)

Doctoral / Post Doctoral Fellowship: One time contingency grant of ` 20,000/-Visiting Fellowship: One time contingency grant of ` 10,000/-

Senior Fellowship: One time contingency grant of` 10,000/- + Local travel in India, as perapproved program with a limit of ` 30,000 Additional one time contingency grant for host Indian scientist will be provided as mentioned below:

Post- Doctoral Fellowship- ` 25,000

Visiting Fellowship- ` 20,000Senior Fellowship- ` 10,000

Government of India (ICCR) Africa Scholarships 2016/2017 for Study in India (Fully Funded)

The Government of India is offering the Africa Scholarship through Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) under Africa Scholarship Scheme for Undergraduate, Postgraduate, M. Phil./Ph.D and Post-Doctoral Fellowship in various Indian Universities/Institutes.

At the inaugural plenary of the India – Africa Forum Summit held in New Delhi in April 2008, the Honorable Prime Minister of India announced the Government of India’s initiative to enhance the academic opportunities for students of African countries in India by increasing the number of scholarships for them to pursue under-graduate, post-graduate and higher courses.
The ICCR implements this scheme on behalf of the Ministry of External Affairs.

Under this Scheme, the Council offers 900 scholarships to the following countries:

Benefits:

The selected candidates would be provided with return economy class air fares to the nearest international airport and Air-Conditioned III Train fare to the place of study, if so required.
The selected students will be paid living allowance, contingent grant, house rent allowance and thesis expenses, as admissible under the rules of the ICCR.
Air ticket for journey from Home Country to India will be provided by the Embassy and return ticket will be provided to the scholar in India.

Applicant may approach this Embassy directly with duly completed applications, original educational documents and a certified copy of the same.
Since slots are limited, applicants are requested to approach the Indian Embassy with duly completed application form as soon as possible well before the due date. Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.

Call for Applications

Fahamu’s Emerging Powers African Journalists Study Programme, Nairobi Kenya (Fully Funded)

When: 15-17 March 2015.

Whom: Media professionals in print, broadcast, radio and online platforms as well as freelance reporters based in Africa are encouraged to apply for the workshop. Lecturers from journalism schools and media programmes in Africa may also apply.

Fahamu’s Emerging Powers in Africa project is issuing a call for applications for a journalist capacity building workshop to be hosted in Nairobi from 15-17 March 2015.

The workshop will seek to assist media practitioners with important insights and reporting techniques regarding the general coverage of the emerging powers’ footprint in Africa and more specifically how to evaluate outcomes from meetings like the India-Africa Forum Summit and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit, which are scheduled to be hosted in 2015.

Applicants must:

– Provide frequent reports to their national, regional, or local print media, radio, television channels or online fora on topics related to the engagement between African countries and the emerging powers. In the case of individuals from journalism schools or training programmes at a higher education institution issues related to the emerging powers in Africa must demonstrate how this will improve their curriculum development;

– Have at least 8- 10 years experience as a journalist or teaching in the profession;

– Be fluent in English;

– Have a valid passport and comply with their country’s visa criteria for travel to Kenya;

– Be able to attend the workshop on the proposed dates.

Benefits

The following costs will be reimbursed:

– Return ticket, economy class to Nairobi
– Accommodation in Nairobi for the duration of study tour,
– Visa costs,
– Meals and transport for duration of study tour.

Requirements

All applications are to be submitted electronically and must include:

– A current resume including professional work history;

– A brief proposal in English outlining a story you wish to cover in Africa related to specifically the India-Africa Forum Summit and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) that will be of interest to your target audience;

– A letter of recommendation from your organisation head/faculty head. If journalist applicants are not employed directly through a media organisation, please provide a letter of support from the organisation to which you are affiliated, including your relationship to the organisation;

– A letter, signed by your (affiliate) organisation or faculty head, motivating how participation in the training workshop will benefit your professional work and the work of your organisation. This should include an action plan detailing how your experience in the workshop will be incorporated into further capacity building and knowledge development within your organisation/journalism school in the three months following completion of the training workshop;

– Provide samples of three professional pieces of written work/manuscripts that have been printed or broadcast in the last 12 months; or an outline of courses taught;

lease ensure that all documents are compressed and/or zipped in compressed files to ensure all applications can be uploaded.

4. Concluding Remarks

A contract will be signed between Fahamu and participants in order to fulfil the following obligations:

– Produce at least 2 commentary pieces for the Fahamu Emerging Powers in Africa Newsletter on India/China-Africa relations in the run up to and following the two Summits;
– Make at least 3 regular contributions on civil society perspectives for publication in the Fahamu Emerging Powers in Africa Newsletter on topics agreed with Fahamu.
