Higher Education South Africa (HESA) is pleased to announce its call for applications for the Higher Education Leadership and Management (HELM) Programme for the 2015 academic year.
A maximum of 40 outstanding university professionals in middle management positions (both academic as well as non-academic) within our university sector who exhibit management and leadership potential in their university will be selected for participation in the programme.
This programme is made possible by a grant from the Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority (ETDP SETA). The programme will run between the months of
February and July 2015.
The HELM programme’s underlying aim is to provide enabling learning opportunities for middle and senior managers in both the academic and non-academic fields for them to gain the knowledge and skills required for playing a constructive managerial role in advancing overall institutional performance within the framework set by legislation, national higher education policies and governance arrangements, a variety of system and institutional planning measures including those related to teaching and learning and research, and the funding of higher education institutions.
STRUCTURE OF THE HELM PROGRAMME 2015
Successful applicants will be required to attend three residential workshops of 2 or 2.5 days’ duration. The workshops will be facilitated by senior experts from the higher education sector .
The workshops are scheduled as follows:
- Workshop 1: 25- 27 February 2015 (arriving late afternoon of 24 February 2015 and departing midday on 27 February 2015) in Gauteng.
- Workshop 2: 21- 24 April 2015 (arriving late afternoon of 20 April 2015 and departing midday on
24 April 2015) in Gauteng. - Workshop 3: 24-25 June 2015 (arriving late afternoon 23 June 2015 and departing mid-afternoon on
25 June 2015 ) in Gauteng.
Decisions will be announced by 10 December 2014
A complete application therefore consists of:
Form 1: Application to be completed by the candidate–the candidate’s name should appear on each page.
A letter of recommendation or endorsement from a person in top level management of the nominating institution-to be submitted by the candidate together with Form 1.
Form 3: Confidential Reference–to be completed by each of the candidate’s two referees. One of
the referees should be the direct line manager of the applicant.
