CCMP Journalism Fellowships 2017 to Attend the UN Climate Negotiations in Bonn, Germany (Fully Funded)

The Climate Change Media Partnership (CCMP) led by Internews’ Earth Journalism Network is pleased to announce Fellowship opportunities for journalists to attend the 23rd Conference of the Parties (COP 23) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Bonn, Germany in mid-November 2017.

Formed in 2007 by Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN), Panos London and the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), the CCMP has brought developing country journalists to the annual UN climate summits since 2007. This has enabled them to cover the summit for their home media organizations, work with experienced and knowledgeable journalists from around the world, and gain a multifaceted understanding of climate change’s global impact. Numerous regional organizations also play a supporting role in the partnership. This year’s Fellowship program will be a partnership between EJN and the Stanley Foundation.

During COP 23, the Fellows will engage with fellow participants and EJN staff in a series of specially designed activities, including an orientation session, daily breakfast briefings, and possibly a field trip.

To be eligible for this Fellowship, applicants must:

  • Be a professional journalist from or representing an established media house;
  • Fill out the application form using the link below, including answering essay questions that illustrate his/her experience reporting on climate change issues and the kinds of stories you might pursue at the conference;
  • Be available to travel to Bonn, Germany with arrival on Nov 10th and departure on Nov 18th;
  • Commit to participate in all Fellowship activities;
  • Provide a letter of support from an editor, producer or supervisor who can confirm your ability to publish or broadcast your material in an established media organization. Freelancers are welcome to apply, but must provide a letter of support.

Criteria for evaluating applicants will include the prospective Fellow’s demonstrated experience covering climate change and other environmental topics, their interest in continued coverage of these issues, and their audience and outlet reach.

As part of the application process, journalists will be asked to submit examples of their work. These can be uploaded as pasted text or links; stories can be sent in a native language as long as they are accompanied by a short English synopsis. A good command of English, however, will be needed to answer the essay questions and will also be important to participate in Fellowship activities.

Benefits

  • As part of the Fellowships, the CCMP will cover travel, lodging, and several group meals, and will reimburse for other meal and transport expenses, will help with the press accreditation process, and provide other support services.
  • Please note that the process of obtaining a visa is a Fellow’s responsibility; however, visa costs can be reimbursed.

The CCMP fully respects the editorial independence of all journalists. Throughout the conference, Fellows are free to report as they see fit. As well as the requirements above, we ask that journalists agree to cross-post all stories they file during COP 23 on the Earth Journalism Network website.

Red Bull Music Academy 2018 for Music Makers Worldwide – Berlin, Germany (Fully Funded)

Red Bull Music Academy heads to Berlin next year, and is now inviting music makers worldwide to apply to take part. The 2018 edition will mark 20 years of traveling the globe, celebrating the stories behind the music that moves us.

Every Academy is a world of its own, offering new insights and perspectives on sound. 60 up-and-coming musicians are selected for each edition of the Academy, where they hear lectures from artists who have shaped music history, exchange knowledge in all-night studio sessions and collaborate with their peers from around the globe.

At the same time, the Academy programs a month-long festival of public concerts and club nights across the city. It all makes for a place where influential musicians meet a new generation, in a setting where both sides can learn from each other and celebrate music’s past, present and future.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The Academy is intended for anyone with a love for music and a desire to be involved in its evolution. Whether you’re a producer, vocalist, instrumentalist, beat-maker, engineer, songwriter or DJ, you will be considered.
  • To join academy on this journey, you don’t need to be able to list the entire No Limit catalog backwards, or know how to disassemble an SP-1200 using only a coin and a toothpick. What we’re looking for is a passion for learning and sharing, enthusiasm for music across genres, and a truly global, open-minded outlook.

Benefits:

  • The workshops and sessions are free, and open only to selected participants.
  • The Red Bull Music Academy also covers flights and accommodation costs.
  • The Academy doesn’t give out certificates or sponsor artists. It’s not about getting discovered by a record label, or learning “how to make it” in the industry.

If you too are driven by music in all that you do, the Academy is for you. Producers, vocalists, instrumentalists, songwriters and DJs of all genres and experience levels will be considered. If selected, you would need to be free to join either Term 1 (September 8 – 21, 2018) or Term 2 (September 29 – October 12, 2018).

DO School Future of Audio Entertainment Challenge 2017 – Hamburg, Germany.

The Future of Audio Entertainment Challenge is an edition of the Entrepreneurship for Good Program. With its learning-by-doing approach, this program gives you the opportunity to learn innovation and implementation skills by working on a real-life innovation Challenge (here: Future of Audio Entertainment Challenge) during 10 weeks at The DO School in Berlin. During the second phase of the program, you will go back home to launch your venture with support from your DO School mentors and peers.

The Challenge

Six major German radio stations, Axel Springer and The DO School challenge you to develop and beta-test an online format or platform that will catapult audio entertainment forward so that it can fulfil it’s mission of providing quality editorial information and entertainment in new and innovative ways. The solution that you will co-create with the other 19 Fellows during the Challenge Lab should be based on a sustainable business model, seize on new ways of making audio content available, and strengthen the traditional role of radio as a public service provider in our digital age.

1) You are an enthusiastic and talented person who has proven skills and expertise in the following areas: Developing and/or providing content for new formats (e.g. podcasts, apps, online platforms), radio programming/journalism, storytelling, sound design, music, psychology, marketing, sales,… Of course, we’d also love to receive your application if you have other skills or areas of expertise or are working on a venture that you believe will bring a unique and fresh perspective to the solution of the Challenge.

2) You have an idea for or are already working on social impact venture, and now you really want to make it happen. You’re ready to commit 10 demanding, high-energy weeks in Berlin to work on the Challenge and develop your venture further, in addition to the following 10 months at home which you will spend bringing your idea to life.

3) Your knowledge of English is good enough to participate in a program entirely conducted in English.

Program timeline

Incubation Phase in Berlin (28th August – 4th November 2017)
Implementation Phase in Fellow’s respective country of residence (5th November 2017 – 24th August 2018)

Program Structure

With its learning-by-doing approach, The Future of Audio Entertainment Challenge gives you the opportunity to learn innovation and implementation skills by working on a real-life innovation Challenge during 10 weeks at The DO School in Berlin. Incubation Phase (28th August – 4th November 2017)
During the 10-week long Incubation Phase you will develop your personal venture plan with a support network of experienced coaches. At the same time you will work together with the other Fellows to solve the Challenge, which will teach you the skills and methods necessary to turn an idea into action.

Implementation Phase (5th November 2017 – 24th August 2018)
During this 10 months period you will focus on kick starting and implementing your venture in your home country, while receiving continued online support from the Venture Lab, via the DO School online platform. Fellow ventures come in many shapes and sizes, from social businesses, to non-profit organisations, artistic projects or campaigns – however, they are always focused on helping to solve a relevant issue within the Fellow‘s home country. You will graduate from the Entrepreneurship for Good Program with a successful start-up that is already creating tangible impact in your community.

Application deadline

The Early Bird Deadline is 31st May for all applicants. Especially those who need a visa and those who want to maximise their chances of getting admitted to the program.

The Late Deadline is 30th June. If there are spaces left, this deadline is open for applicants who don’t need a visa.

UNFCCC Global Youth Video Competition 2017 for Young Change Agents (Fully Funded to COP23 in Bonn, Germany)

Applications are now been accepted for the UNFCCC Global Youth Video Competition 2017

If you are between the ages of 18 and 30 we want to hear about the inspiring actions you are taking to combat climate change in a compelling and concise maximum three minute video. We would like you to showcase for us a project or campaign you are involved in which relates to one of this year’s categories.

Category 1: Climate friendly and resilient cities

3.5 billion people live in cities today and their populations will continue to increase in the coming decades, especially in developing countries. Cities account for 60-80% of energy consumption and 75% of carbon emissions.

Developing sustainable cities and communities is one of the key components in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to the inevitable impacts of climate change. We are asking young people to submit videos that showcase activities which contribute to climate friendly and resilient cities.

We are looking for videos which showcase:

  • the implementation of climate friendly solutions/ideas about how to promote sustainability in urban areas/communities; including clean energy, clean transportation, community gardening, stepping up recycling and waste reduction, and other projects to reduce emissions;
  • building resilience to climate impacts such as heatwaves and floods, for example through tree planting, increasing green spaces and creating flood defenses;
  • actions to increase public awareness, and to advocate change at the policy level regarding the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to build resilience.

Category 2: Oceans and climate change

Oceans contain 97% of the planet’s water, employ over 200 million people and are the primary source of protein for 3 billion people. The degradation of oceans therefore present serious threats to many countries.

Oceans absorb much of the temperature rise and 30% of the carbon dioxide produced by humans, this is leading to higher levels of acidity. Sea levels are also on the rise and threaten many coastal communities. We are asking for videos on actions youth are taking to address challenges related to oceans and waterways.

We are looking for videos which showcase:

  • the restoration of wetlands and mangroves which protect against storm surges and saltwater intrusion;
  • the construction of dykes and other defenses against sea level rise;
  • the increase of scientific knowledge to improve ocean health;
  • activities which increase public awareness about the need to build resilience with regard to oceans and ways to reduce CO2 emissions so that oceans are better protected.

How to enter

Make an engaging maximum of three minute video, using whatever type of camera you have available, about your activities and submit in online to tvebiomovies.

The Prizes

  • A round trip to COP23 in Bonn, Germany this November 2017
  • Position as a youth reporter at COP23, where you will assist the UNFCCC Newsroom team with videos, articles and social media posts.

The competition is co-organized by the UNFCCC and the UNDP-GEF Small Grants Programme, and implemented by Television for the Environment-tve.

Pop-Kultur 2017 Goethe Institut Talents Scholarship for Music Professionals (Fully Funded to Berlin, Germany)

  • Are you a young musician, DJ, composer, singer-songwriter, instrumentalist from a developing or transition country, and between 20 – 30 years old?
  • Do you want to work professionally in the music field, with your own label or booking agency or want to make your music more target-oriented?
  • If you have some early experiences in your field already, Pop-Kultur Nachwuchs will help you to reach the next level.

It’s going down on August 23rd and August 24th in a couple of locations at Kulturbrauerei Berlin. International professionals give personal insights into their work and share their expert knowledge through workshops, case studies and talks with you – lively and practical instead of dry and formal. Among them are Pop-Kultur acts such as Noveller, Throwingshade and Circuit des Yeux. More mentors & courses will be announced soon.

Once more the program offers spots to talents from all over the world. Hence, you’ll be able to network across borders.

Furthermore, in the run-up of Pop-Kultur from August 16th to August 22nd, we plan activities to experience Music City Berlin: studio visits, short mentorships in selected companies of the Berlin creative industries, listening sessions and meetings with scholarship holders of Musicboard Berlin GmbH. Other activities, such as visiting the evening program of the Atonal Festival, will be taking place during the week before Pop-Kultur.

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Should be aged between 20 and 30 years old
  • Should prepare a short presentation of 15 min
  • Must be fluent in English (tests and interviews will be conducted by Goethe-Institut)
  • Must have experience in a specific musical sector and present at least three projects

Benefits:

  • The participation fee, accommodation, travel expenses, hospitality (per diem of 10€) will be covered by Goethe-Institut within the period of August 16th to August 26th 2017.
  • Goethe-Institut will book flights, cover the costs and will help with visa issues. Additionally Musicboard will grant the talents a Festival Ticket plus access to Pop-Kultur’s networking area for professionals, provides for accommodation (breakfast included), health insurance and public transportation.

Application Procedure:

  • Every participant should prepare a short input talk (15 min.) in advance about his/her experience in the music field so far and the music scene in his/her respective country.
  • Advanced English skills are crucial as there is no translation available. You will be tested in advance by the local Goethe-Institut.
  • You need work experience in a specific music field. We require proof of at least 3 projects.
  • You have to cover all additional expenses that might occur during your stay.
  • If you are not boarding your flight or cancel the program on short notice, you are obliged to reimburse Goethe-Institut/Musicboard for accrued expenses.

Young Entrepreneur South Africa (YESA) is looking for 35 of South Africa’s best and brightest to represent our country at this year’s 2017 G20 Young Entrepreneurs Alliance Summit in Berlin, Germany from June 15-17.

The G20 YEA Summit is an unforgettable international experience. Over four action-packed days, including one day of optional pre-summit activities, 35 delegates from across South Africa will participate in a variety of business-building, policy-making and networking activities alongside 500+ young entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial leaders from across the G20 countries.

Eligibility:

  • 18-39 years old
  • South African Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Business owner, co-founder and/or majority shareholder of a South African business that has been in operation for at least 2 years* or a leader in the entrepreneurial ecosystem
  • Able to communicate in English
  • Familiar with the challenges facing young entrepreneurs
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and a strong interest in entrepreneurship policy

Become an Entrepreneurial Leader and Ambassador

Your role as a G20 YESA delegate goes beyond the Summit. As a G20 YESA delegate, you will become part of a cross-South Africa network of champions for youth entrepreneurship representing the interests of young entrepreneurs, advising on issues of importance, and sharing challenges and proposing solutions. This includes the opportunity to engage with stakeholders and media, and to participate in government relations efforts to advance the G20 YEA recommendations.

Delegate Responsibilities:

  • Act as a champion for youth entrepreneurship both within South Africa and abroad
  • Represent the interests of young entrepreneurs
  • Engage with various stakeholders and media on a local level to discuss issues identified by the G20 YESA and to share findings from related reports
  • Participate in the group conference call prior to the summit
  • Participate in post summit reporting activities

Please note that only 1 person may apply per company/organization. *Exceptions may be made for businesses that have been operating for less than 2 years where the applicant can demonstrate significant business growth (preferably global).

**Delegates are responsible for booking their own trip incl flights, hotel and summit registration fee, etc. A R1000 non-refundable fee payable to G20 YESA is required to confirm a spot on the South African delegation. This fee will be used towards costs related to delegation coordination, training and activities in Berlin.

Singularity University/World Food Programme (WFP) Global Impact Challenge 2017

The Singularity University together with the World Food Programme (WFP) is currently inviting applications for the Global Impact Challenge to find new ways to provide food in emergencies.

This partnership offers applicants a unique combination of Silicon Valley exponential thinking and global expertise in food assistance and humanitarian response. It’s time to harness the combined power of exponential technology and innovative thinking to end hunger once and for all!

The programme challenges participants to design a low-cost, scalable solution that enables severely marginalized people to support their (five-member, on average) household food and nutrition needs in a sustainable manner that lowers their dependence on aid.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The challenge is open to anyone, anywhere in the world
  • Participant must be age 21 or older on the first day of the GSP
  • Participant should be able to conduct yourself professionally in written and spoken English
  • Participant should be able to participate in the 4-day bootcamp in Munich from April 18-21, 2017
  • Participant should be able to participate in the entire GSP17 program from June 17 – August 17, 2017

The prize

  • Shortlisted winners will be invited to a bootcamp at the WFP Innovation Accelerator in Munich, Germany, where they’ll work on developing their ideas using lean startup and human-centered design methods, combined with WFP field expertise. The bootcamp will be hosted April 18-21, 2017.
  • Following the bootcamp, one team (with a maximum of two members) will move on and secure a full sponsorship to attend Singularity University’s prestigious Global Solutions Program (GSP) hosted from June 17 to August 17, 2017, on the SU campus at the NASA Ames Research Center.

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC’s) Internship Programme 2017 – Bonn, Germany.

The objective of the internship programme is to provide a framework through which postgraduate students from diverse academic backgrounds may be assigned to the UNFCCC secretariat to enhance their educational experience through practical work assignments. It allows selected candidates to gain insight into the work of the United Nations and provides assistance and training in various professional fields.

UNFCCC secretariat’s internship programme is coordinated by the Administrative Services Programme and a designated focal point is responsible for liaising with the relevant substantive programmes for placement of interns. At the end of an internship period, both the intern and the staff member acting as his/her supervisor are required to submit an evaluation report to the designated focal point of the Internship Programme.

Eligibility requirements

i) An undergraduate degree should have been completed with work on a Master degree in progress. Applicants should therefore be enrolled in a recognized university course of study in fields related to the work of the UNFCCC secretariat (including economics, environmental sciences, international law, international relations, natural sciences, political science, human resources and/or public administration, event management, IT/computer sciences, and communication) at the time of application and during the entire period of internship.

ii) Applicants should be able to work in English.

Applicants pursuing their studies in countries where higher education is not divided into undergraduate and postgraduate stages should have completed at least four years of study and be a student at the time of application and during the internship.

Terms and conditions

a) The normal duration of an internship is two months, which can be extended for an additional period of two months by mutual consultation and consent. The total duration may exceptionally be extended to a maximum period of six months when there are special academic requirements or special needs of the receiving programme.

b) Applicants may not be related – i.e. spouse, mother, father, sister, brother, daughter, son – to a staff member of the UNFCCC secretariat.

c) Upon selection for an internship placement, an ‘Internship Agreement’ is forwarded to the confirmed candidate for signature and returned together with proof of medical insurance coverage for the entire duration of the internship. This must be done prior to the agreed starting date.

d) There is no promise of employment either during or upon completion of an internship with the UNFCCC secretariat.

e) An intern with UNFCCC secretariat is not a staff member of the UNFCCC secretariat, therefore the privileges and immunities agreed between the UNFCCC secretariat and the host Government do not apply to interns.

f) An intern undertakes to conduct himself/herself at all times in a manner compatible with his/her responsibilities as an intern of the UNFCCC secretariat.

g) The intern is required to keep confidential all unpublished information made known during the course of the internship, and must not publish any reports or papers on the basis of information obtained, except with the prior written authorization of the UNFCCC secretariat. Interns are not financially remunerated by the UNFCCC secretariat. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or his/her sponsoring institution.

The Global Challenges Fellowship assembles scholars from rising non-Western powers to explore questions in the humanities or social sciences relevant to the most pressing public policy challenges of the 21st century. GCF fosters new forms of scientific collaboration and enhances transnational and interdisciplinary cooperation between regional and international partners.

The aim of the Global Challenges Fellowship Program (GCFP) is to invite researchers and practitioners from nine emerging countries to the School of Public Policy at Central European University (SPP) and the Central European University Institute for Advanced Study (CEU IAS) in Budapest, Hungary and the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin, Germany to foster new forms of collaboration. This serves the ultimate purpose of forging closer ties between Western and non-Western researchers and policy makers, offering fresh perspectives on some of the world’s most pressing public policy challenges, challenges which can only be resolved together.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants (in particular those working in the field of public policy) from Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa and Turkey are eligible to apply. Applicants must be residents of these countries at the time of application.
  • Applicants must hold an academic degree (master’s, PhD or equivalent) in the social sciences, humanities and/or law.
  • Applicants must have at least three years of demonstrated professional experience at the time of application. Those with at least 15 years of demonstrated policy-making experience or seven years of experience since earning their PhDs will be considered for the senior fellowship. Other applicants will be considered for the junior fellowship. Please indicate and substantiate your request to be considered for a senior fellowship in your cover letter.
  • Applicants must be able to communicate fluently (speaking and writing) in English, the working language of the program.
  • Applicants must have a demonstrated record of policy engagement and submit an innovative research proposal.
  • Full-time CEU employees and graduates are ineligible to apply within six years of the completion of their studies or contracts (i.e., degrees must have been received and contracts must have ended no later than December 31, 2010). Part-time or temporary employees of CEU are ineligible within three years of the completion of their contracts (i.e., contracts must have ended no later than December 31, 2013).

Benefits:

  • The fellows spend a total of approximately 7-8 months as Global Challenges Fellows (GCF) doing analytical and empirical work in Budapest, and engaging with policy practitioners at GPPi in Berlin.
  • While the exact timetable depends on the specifications of each research project, the majority of time (about 75%) is spent in Budapest.
  • Fellows receive an allowance for accommodation in Budapest and Berlin as well as a monthly stipend. Fellows are expected to reside in Budapest and Berlin during their fellowship, pursue their research agendas and participate in the intellectual life of SPP and IAS CEU.
  • Senior fellows will receive a net monthly stipend of 2,500 Euros for the duration of the program to help support their stay in Budapest and Berlin. Junior fellows will receive a net monthly stipend of 1,500 Euros. In addition, all fellows will receive a housing allowance for their stays in Budapest and Berlin. Fellows also receive limited funds (up to 2,000 Euros) for travel to and from their home country and between Budapest and Berlin, as well as health insurance coverage.

  • The selection is based on good publication record, promising research agenda, relevance and feasibility of the proposed project, record of policy engagement and English language proficiency.

The program supports up to two junior and two senior Fellows per year. During their fellowship, they publish journal articles and/or policy papers and participate in a series of small working group-style discussions and seminars. Fellows’ work is situated within one of the following focal research areas:

  • Development and governance
  • Internet Governance
  • Changing global institutions

CORRECTIV is pleased to announce two graphic novel fellowships for artists. One from the Middle East and one from subsaharan Africa. In the framework of this fellowship, illustrators from the respective regions can apply for a six-months full scholarship. CORRECTIV selects the fellows.

CORRECTIV is the first nonprofit investigative newsroom in the German-speaking world.

Benefits

  • CORRECTIV will invite two fellows for six months to Berlin.

The Fellowship

  • Each fellow will work in the newsroom on one of our investigation to transfer it into a graphic novel. After the end of the fellowship we will publish the novel as a book as part of our publishing activities – and we will publish it on our website, so that everybody can have access to the work.
  • Correctiv would like the illustrators to bring ideas from the graphic traditions of their home countries and regions. This will also be an important impulse for the graphic novel scene in Europe. We know, that there are excellent illustrators in Asia and Africa.

The Elsevier Foundation Green and Sustainable Chemistry Challenge is a skills-based competition in which participants are asked to submit proposals outlining innovative ideas that advance access to environmentally friendly and sustainable chemical processes that are suitable for use in developing countries.

The 2017 Challenge will be open to individuals and non-profit organizations whose projects use green and sustainable chemistry solutions to tackle some of the developing world’s greatest sustainability challenges whether in water, sanitation or energy.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age or older at the time of entry to enter the Challenge.
  • Applicants may participate as (i) individuals, (ii) teams of individuals, or (iii) individually or in teams on behalf of an organization, i.e. an educational or not-for-profit institution or a corporation (the latter category, collectively “Organizations”).
  • Submission of an application (“Application”) on behalf of a group of individuals or an Organization shall constitute a representation by the individual submitting the application that he/she is authorized to represent the team to submit the Application and distribute any prize money.

Projects will be reviewed according to the following criteria:

  • Be replicable, scalable, sustainable and set a benchmark for innovation – new ideas or concepts in development will be given preference over more advanced projects.
  • Have practical applicability; include an implementation plan. Please note that if the project has been developed in a high income country, contextually appropriate development knowledge will need to be demonstrated, for instance through a developing country implementation partner.
  • Be suitable for use in developing countries. Have considered the project’s social impact on local communities, including whether it has a possible gender dimension either in design or implementation.
  • Have at least two of the following Green and Sustainable Chemistry objectives:
    • Reduce or eliminate the use or generation of one or more hazardous substance or material
    • Provide a more sustainable use of resources, materials, or products, or more sustainable manufacturing or application of a chemical product
    • Provide increased reuse, repair or recyclability
    • Present a new business model fitting into the criteria of green and sustainable chemistry.

Judging

Applications will be reviewed against the Elsevier Foundation Green & Sustainable Chemistry Challenge criteria by the Elsevier Foundation Green & Sustainable Chemistry Challenge advisory group, comprised of relevant internal and external Green & Sustainable Chemistry specialists. Those in contention for the short list will be reviewed by an expert panel of external judges.

The shortlist will be announced on January 2017. Shortlisted candidates will be given the opportunity to refine and elaborate on their proposals.

  • The winning project in the Elsevier Green & Sustainable Chemistry Challenge will receive a single payment of Euros € 50,000; the winner of the second prize will receive a single payment of Euros € 25,000.

Structure of the Future Leaders Programme

The aim of the Future Leaders Programme is to acquaint new staff with the LFS lending methodology and tools as well as with the roles and responsibilities in a micro, small and medium enterprise (MSME) finance bank. The nine-months training takes place in an Access network bank in Sub-Saharan Africa or the Caucasus. In the event of excellent performance, the nine-month period of the training programme may be shortened.

An additional goal of the Future Leaders Programme will be to enhance the Trainees’ management skills to prepare them for their future management tasks. After the training, Junior Banking Advisors are ready to take over first management responsibilities in another Access network bank.

The training location is selected based on the experience and language skills of the trainee, as well as on project capacities and vacancies. Throughout the training, trainees are involved in the daily operations of the bank. Trainees are part of the LFS team on the ground and cooperate closely with the local staff in the bank.

Required skills, qualifications and experience

  • Masters degree in finance or finance-related field, economics, business, microfinance, or agriculture;
  • Apprenticeship in banking or finance sector would be advantageous;
  • Interest in a long-term career in the field of microfinance;
  • First work experience or internships in the field of Branchless Banking, particularly Digital Finance;
  • 2 years professional experience, including first relevant experiences, e.g. in SME and/or Agri-Finance, and (Corporate) Finance are an asset;
  • Living or work experience in a developing or transition economy,

Tactical Tech Digital Activist Residency 2016 in Berlin, Germany- Fully Funded

The residency is designed to support activists from Latin America, Africa, Asia, Central Asia, the Caucasus or the Middle East, who utilise digital technologies extensively in their work.

Tactical Tech will host the residency in its offices in Berlin, Germany, from mid September 2016 to mid November 2016.

The residency is part of a project launched by the Tactical Technology Collective and Reporters without Borders Germany, meant to strengthen Berlin as a hub for a creative community that can inspire change around the world. Tactical Tech will host 2 residents simultaneously. In parallel, Reporters Without Borders will host a residency for a journalist.

are looking for an experienced digital activist interested in joining a small team working internationally in the framework of our project Exposing the Invisible.

Exposing the Invisible is the main project under Tactical Tech’s programme area Understanding and Shaping Issues. The project focuses on how to find, use, curate and activate data, evidence and information in order to tell stories with it. Our small team and the people we collaborate with have a selection of mixed skills and experiences that include data experts, artists, reporters, designers, programmers, tool developers, film makers, activists and researchers.

During the residency period of September to November 2016 we will be working on a number of projects including our continued research and development on new investigation techniques on Sonic Investigation and Seeing from Above, looking at how to integrate digital security into investigation workflows and lastly the continued testing of Littlespoon, a tool that captures public data for investigation purposes.

There is also room for our residents to work within our framework on their own investigations and interest areas.

To be eligible you need to:

  • be an activist from Latin America, Africa, Asia, Central Asia, the Caucasus, Eastern Europe or the Middle East
  • be confident working in English
  • use digital technologies extensively in your work
  • have a good knowledge of digital technologies (the internet, mobile phones etc) and their challenges and implications for freedom of information or advocacy work in your own context
  • be willing to share experience and expertise
  • be willing to deepen your practical knowledge on new investigation techniques
  • be willing to learn about digital security techniques
  • be willing to be part of the Tactical Tech team on a daily basis for two months
  • be willing to act as a multiplier and further spread the knowledge you gathered during the residency in your home region

Tactical Tech will prioritise applications from those working in conflict and post-conflict contexts.

As the resident, you will be provided with:

An Initiative of German Industry for Future Leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa

Applicants are invited for the 2015/2017 German Industry Initiative AFRIKA KOMMT! Fellowship Program. The program is supported by the Federal President of Germany Joachim Gauck. Nineteen of Germany’s leading businesses have committed themselves to a common cause. In 2008 they launched AFRIKA KOMMT! and in so doing, laid the foundation stone for sustainable economic cooperation with Africa.
The programme not only trains young, future managers from Sub-Saharan Africa on-site with German companies, but is also directed at forming stable cooperative partnerships for the future. In the framework of the fifth year, 2015-17, some of the participating companies have decided to host more than one AFRIKA KOMMT! participant.

The Ebelin and Gerd Bucerius ZEIT Foundation and the Robert Bosch Foundation Fellowship support the international programme as cooperation partners. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit, GIZ, has been commissioned by the companies to organise and implement the programme.

Affording international scholars an opportunity to work on their research projects here at the Institute is deemed of particular importance. To this end, a limited number of short-term scholarships (up to a maximum period of four months) are awarded each year. Additionally, the scholarship programme serves to promote personal and institutional contacts with scholars working in the fields of comparative and international private law and thereby continually expand the Institute’s global network.

The research project in question must correspond to the academic interests of the Institute, as only then can it be ensured that scholarship recipients will be able to engage in meaningful academic exchange with other researchers and find relevant literature in our library.

Applicants applying for the current round of scholarship awards are advised that topics presently being researched at the Institute include, in particular, the following:

– Comparative legal methodology
– Partnership law
– Close corporations
– Company valuation law
– Comparative succession law (Europe and other continents)
– International succession law (especially the European Succession Regulation)
– Chinese product liability law – Chinese civil procedure
– Korean family law

The Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law offers a limited number of short-term scholarships (up to a maximum period of four months) for foreign legal researchers. The scholarships are funded by the Max Planck Society.

Messe Berlin, one of the world’s leading trade exhibition companies, challenges you to create an information architecture for gathering and preserving the collective knowledge present at its trade exhibitions in order to share it with the world.

The task is to capture, preserve and publish the expertise of the exhibitors and trade visitors present in new and exciting formats, e.g. by using new technologies or forms of storytelling.

The aim of the challenge is:

  • to find a solution that extends the impact of a trade exhibition from a few days to the whole year
  • to gather knowledge that so far goes untapped and make it accessible to more people
  • to distil it so that it can be published in different formats later on and
  • to connect new people worldwide to the Messe Berlin community

Eligibility

  • Emerging social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs aged 21 to 31 from around the world, with relevant interest and skills as well as an idea for a venture that they want to implement during DO school Fellowship.
  • Successful candidates may come from, but are not restricted to the fields of storytelling technique such as writers, bloggers, videographers, journalists but also business analysts, educators, information architects, web and information designers.
Programme Description:
  • On campus Incubation Phase
  • During the 10-week long incubation phase you will develop your personal venture plan with a support network of experienced coaches. at the same time you will work together with the other Fellows to solve the Challenge, which will teach you the skills and methods necessary to turn an idea into action.

In an effort to keep the public informed on life-changing scientific breakthroughs, Falling Walls have created the Falling Walls Science Fellowship for Journalists. It is aimed at journalists and bloggers with at least three years of experience, and who hope to advance their knowledge in the area of sciences.

The Fellows get the opportunity to attend the Falling Walls Lab, Falling Walls Venture and the Falling Walls Conference in Berlin on 8 and 9 November 2015 in Berlin.

The “Postdoc International” POINT Research Fellowship program – co-financed by the German Excellence Initiative and the Marie Curie Program of the European Commission – provides funding for outstanding postdoctoral researchers from all disciplines to conduct their own research project at Freie Universität Berlin.

The POINT program was designed by Dahlem Research School (DRS) at Freie Universität Berlin to promote the further academic career development through research funding, a tailored qualification program and the opportunity to develop teaching and leadership skills. It also provides essential professional guidance on preparing grant proposals to support POINT fellows in obtaining funding for follow-up research projects at Freie Universität Berlin.

Eligibility

Starting in November 2015, each research fellowship will be awarded for 18 months. The call is open to experienced researchers of all disciplines and all nationalities who:

  • hold a doctoral degree (the dissertation must be submitted)
  • completed their doctoral degree no longer than 6 years before the deadline
  • have not resided in Germany for longer than 12 months during the last 36 months

Female postdoctoral researchers and returnees from phases of international, inter-sectoral and/or non-academic mobility (such as researching outside Germany, working for industry or a career break e.g. due to family reasons) are specifically encouraged to apply.

Applicants have to submit a project plan based around the research fields/ key topics of the participating Excellence Projects or Focus Areas.

Who can participate?

2015 Global Challenges Fellowship Program (GCFP) for study at Central European University, Hungary & Germany.

The aim of the Global Challenges Fellowship Program (GCFP) is to invite researchers from nine emerging countries to the School of Public Policy at Central European University (SPP) and the Central European University Institute for Advanced Study (CEU IAS) in Budapest, Hungary and the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin, Germany to foster new forms of collaboration.

This serves the ultimate purpose of forging closer ties between Western and non-Western researchers and offering fresh perspectives on some of the world’s most pressing public policy challenges, challenges which can only be resolved together.

Eligibility:

  • The GCFP brings researchers from emerging economies outside the “established West” to SPP and CEU IAS as well as to GPPi.
  • The focus will be on researchers (in particular those in the field of public policy) from Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Iran, Mexico, Nigeria, South Africa, and Turkey.
  • The researchers must be resident in these countries—Chinese or Indian nationals working permanently in the US, for example, are not eligible for the program.

Benefits:

 

  • Fellows receive an allowance for accommodation in Budapest and Berlin and a monthly stipend. Fellows are expected to reside in Budapest and Berlin, accordingly, during their fellowship, participate in the intellectual life of SPP and CEU IAS and pursue their research agenda.
  • Senior fellows will receive a net monthly stipend of 2,500 Euros; junior fellows will receive a net monthly stipend of 1,500 Euros for the duration of the program to help support their stay in Budapest and Berlin.
  • In addition, all fellows and their families receive a housing allowance in Budapest and Berlin. Fellows also receive limited travel funds (up to 2,000 Euros) for travel to and from their home country and between Budapest and Berlin, as well as health insurance.

 

What

  • The fellows will spend a total of approximately 7-8 months as Global Challenges Fellows (GCF) doing analytical and empirical work in Budapest, and engaging with policy practitioners at GPPi in Berlin. While the exact timetable depends on the specifications of each research project, the majority of time (about 75%) will be spent in Budapest.
  • The program will support two junior and two senior Fellows per year.
  • They will publish journal articles and/or policy papers and will participate in a series of small working group-style discussions and seminars.

The Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) invites applications to its Predoctoral Fellowship program. Requirements

Financial Support:

BIGSSS offers 2 Predoctoral Fellowships of 800 Euros/month for 12 month for excellent BA and BSc graduates. After fulfilling some course requirements and having their proposals accepted within the first year, candidates can switch into the regular three year PhD program.

Application Deadline:

The application period for the Fall 2015 semester will begin on November 15th, 2014 and go until February 15th, 2015. The deadline refers to the date of receipt of the application. All letters of recommendation must also reach BIGSSS by February15th, 2015.

The World Business Dialogue is the largest international student-run business convention worldwide which takes place in Cologne, Germany every year. It creates a multicultural Dialogue across generations and hosts exciting discussions between high-potential international students, experienced executives and the world’s top-class speakers.

Notable speakers of the past were among others: Bill Gates, Michael Bloomberg (Mayor of New York City) or Dr. Josef Ackermann (former CEO of Deutsche Bank). Additionally to the conference there will be a project phase of two months around the convention where selected participants work on real business cases provided by our partnering companies and thus will experience intense business exposure.

Next year’s Dialogue will deal with the implications of disruptive innovations for existing and new business models. Specifically we will be looking at the possibilities that derive from the combination of  technologies and trends such as Big Data, machine-to-machine communication and artificial intelligence.

Ashoka’s Nutrients for All and Ashoka Changemakers are seeking your innovative solutions that will ensure the availability of nutrients for healthy, natural ecosystems, farms, food, and people. Enter before the deadline on June 19, 2013 for a chance to win cash prizes totaling US $45,000.

Eligibility

  • The competition is open to all organizations and partnerships from around the world.

Competition Deadlines, Procedures, and Rules

Online competition submissions are accepted until 5 p.m. EST on Wednesday June 19, 2013. At any time before this deadline, competition participants are encouraged to revise their entries based on questions and insights that they receive from reviewers on their feedback dashboards. Participation in the discussion enhances an entrant’s prospects in the competition and gives the community and judges an opportunity to understand the entrant’s project more completely.

There are six main phases in the competition:

Preliminary Entry

Spend 12 months in Berlin at the Berliner Künstlerprogramm in the field of literature, film and music.

DAAD Fellowship

Scholarship recipients receive in addition to the monthly grant, an apartment, workspace (studio) and funds for projects are provided. In total 20 internationally known younger artists to spend 12 months in Berlin.

A jury annually selects approximately 20 international guests for the Berliner Künstlerprogramm. Artists in the fields of literature, film and music may apply. You will find the application forms here. In the field of visual arts, a jury recommends artists for invitation.
