Miss.Africa Initiative led by DCA Academy, is announcing a Seed Fund in Africa that will a small grants to support women and girls in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields to launch or expand their own initiatives that will increase their digital opportunities in IT related training, jobs and leadership roles.

The program is interested in learning about successful activities that are currently supporting women and girls in STEM, and through this effort, we identify how we might support scalability and their impacts.

In a #STEM4girls pan-african campaign, the Miss.Africa program is mobilizing a Round II Seed Fund for Tech initiatives in Africa that will avail small grants to support women and girls in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields to launch or expand their own initiatives that will increase digital opportunities in IT related training, jobs and leadership roles.

The Miss.Africa program led by DCA Academy and in partnership with eMobilis, is able to train over 25 girls in mobile and technology for the year 2016.

ELIGIBILITY

To apply for a Miss.Africa Seed Fund grant applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

Current resident of an African country (including North and Sub-Saharan Africa).
Application must be submitted in English.
Applying as an individual (at least 18 years of age), or a representative of a non-governmental organization (NGO) or social enterprise based in Africa.
Ability to demonstrate previous experience conducting activities supporting women and girls in computer science or STEM fields.
Commitment to developing and contributing to a virtual community for supporting women and girls initiatives.
Demonstrated leadership potential (references will be required for those applying for leadership funds).
Proposed projects MUST have a tangible impact for women and girls in computer science and/or STEM- related fields.

PROJECTS
Preference will be given to projects that target under-served populations and locations, take a collaborative approach, have a high potential for growth and present an innovative use of technology.

Projects eligible for grant funding include, but are not limited to:

Computer science workshops and trainings for women and girls
Early incubation of female tech entrepreneurs
Programming and app development training programs
Hackathons and coding boot camps for girls

Benefits:

The 2016 Seed Grant for the amount Five Thousand US dollars (USD 5,000) will assist the winning initiative to start or expand their capacity.
A second category of One Thousand United States Dollars (USD 1000) will be granted as a prize for two other applicants from emerging African countries that create further socio-economic value for women by effectively leveraging tech opportunities.

2016/2017 Schlumberger Foundation Faculty for the Future Fellowship Grants for Women in Science.

The Schlumberger Foundation is accepting new applications for the 2016-2017 Faculty for the Future Fellowships from September 14th to November 12th, 2015.

The Faculty for the Future program, launched in 2004, awards fellowships to women from developing and emerging economies to pursue PhD or Post-doctorate studies in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines at leading universities worldwide.

The long-term goal of the program is to generate conditions that result in more women pursuing academic careers in STEM disciplines thus contributing to the socio-economic development of their home countries and regions.

Faculty for the Future grants are based on actual costs for eligible expenses up to a maximum of USD 50,000 per year and may be renewed through to completion of studies subject to performance, self-evaluation, recommendation from supervisors and strong evidence of re-integration plans into the home country.

Eligibility:

You are a female and a citizen of a developing country or emerging economy.
You are preparing for a PhD degree or post-doctoral research in the physical sciences, engineering, technology and related disciplines
Candidates must hold an excellent academic record and illustrate their commitment to teaching and research or to using their scientific knowledge in public policy advocacy.
Candidates should demonstrate leadership skills, community outreach interest and have a track record in encouraging young women into the STEM fields.
Candidates should also prove their commitment to returning to their home countries to contribute to the economic, social and technological advancement of their regions, pursing careers in the teaching and research faculties of their home institutions and also taking positions in the public sector.
