Echoing Green Global Fellowship 2016 for Emerging Social Entrepreneurs ( $USD 80,000 Stipend )

The Global Fellowship is Echoing Greens‘ twenty-seven-year-old program for smart leaders who are deeply connected to the needs and potential solutions that may work best for their communities. Any emerging social entrepreneur from any part of the world working to disrupt the status quo may apply.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for an Echoing Green Fellowship, the applicant must be:

Over 18 years old
Fluent in English
Able to commit a full 35 hour work week to their organization.

In order to be eligible for an Echoing Green Fellowship, the organization must be:

The original idea of the applicant(s)
In its start-up phase, usually within the first two years of operation
Independent and autonomous

The following types of organizations are not eligible to apply:

Students, scholarships, or research projects
Lobbying or faith-based organizations
Existing organizations which have grown past their start-up phase

Worth:

The Fellowships are awarded annually to individuals or partners who receive:

A stipend of $80,000 for individuals (or $90,000 for two-person partnerships) paid in four equal installments over two years
A health insurance stipend
A yearly professional development stipend
Leadership development and networking gatherings
Access to technical support and pro bono partnerships to help grow their organization and a dedicated Echoing Green portfolio manager
A community of like-minded social entrepreneurs, public service leaders, and industry leaders including the Echoing Green network of more than 600 Fellows working in over sixty countries all over the world.

Innovation is an important element of the Echoing Green Fellowship. What does Echoing Green mean by innovation?

An innovative idea is novel, it’s often untried, and it challenges the assumptions made by previous organizations working in the field.
Innovative ideas can build upon or make improvements to an existing model, or they can create their own unique solutions which have never been tried before.
Organizations utilizing a pre-existing model would benefit from elements of innovation. For example, bringing a traditional model to new locations, communities, or organizations which they have not been historically related to.
Innovative ideas bring about dramatic change, not just incremental change. Tell us how your approach will lead to increased change over other models or ideas.

2015 SHE by Spark* Changemaker Program for Female Entrepreneurs in South Africa.

SHE by Spark* is a powerful opportunity for passionate female entrepreneurs in South Africans who are at the early stages of building social businesses and organisations that exist to make a difference for women and girls living in poverty.

Eligibility Criteria:

She by Spark is looking for female South African social entrepreneurs who:

– Have already launched a social enterprise that is already making a difference in the lives of tens of women and/or girls living in poverty in South Africa.

– Want to scale their social enterprise to impact many more women and girls living in poverty.

Programme Details:

If you are successful in your application you:

– ATTEND THE CHANGEMAKER ACCELERATOR –

An intensive five day live-in workshop in Johannesburg where you join a small group of Spark* Changemakers and access world class social entrepreneurship training designed to help you focus your non-profit or business and accelerate the growth of your venture.

– ACCESS THE CHANGEMAKER SUPPORT NETWORK –

Beyond the accelerator you receive ongoing training and support from Spark* International and we connect you to experts and professionals who can help you as you launch and grow your non-profit or social business.
Specifically Spark will provide you with three years of access to graphic designers, website creators, business coaches, mentors, research assistants, lawyers and accountants (all super helpful for you as a social entrepreneur working to grow your venture).
You also have the opportunity to continually apply for small grants (approximately 2000 – 2500 rand) to help you overcome barriers and test ideas to grow the impact or sustainability of your venture.

– ACCESS POWERFUL CONNECTIONS –

Spark* is an official pipeline partner with a number of powerful organisations that can help you scale a proven social enterprise including Ashoka, Echoing Green and the Unreasonable Institute as well as impact investors to help you raise capital if you are a social enterprise. We can prepare you for these opportunities and make connections for you.

PROGRAM COST

Each successful applicant contributes 1000 Rand to the cost of the program. This amount helps Spark* provide you with 5 days of accommodation, food, transport and world class training as well as three years of ongoing support and connections.
The cost to Spark* is much higher but you are requested make this contribution to help us cover a small portion of the expenses we will incur.
If you are not able to make 1000 Rand contribution, you are encouraged to seek sponsorship from friends, family, or your community.

Notification:

You will be notified of the status of your application by the 22nd of June 2015.

Changemaker [noun] : Local impact entrepreneurs launching great ideas in very poor areas to improve the lives of people in poverty.

Spark* finds and supports these Changemakers and connects them with opportunities that will help them grow their impact, bringing more people out of poverty

Spark is looking for Kenyan social entrepreneurs who:

The Global Fellowship is Echoing Greens’ twenty-seven year-old program for smart leaders who are deeply connected to the needs and potential solutions that may work best for their communities. Any emerging social entrepreneur from any part of the world working to disrupt the status quo may apply.

Echoing Green Funding:

• Stipend:

Fellows receive up to $90,000 of unrestricted funding for their organization that can be spent on anything from programming to salaries.

• Health Insurance Stipend:

Echoing Green believes Fellows need to be healthy to carry out their work, so both domestic and international Fellows can be reimbursed up to $4,000 a year for health insurance payments.

• Leadership Development Funds:

Echoing Green believes in the importance of investing in the Fellows as leaders, so each Fellow receives $1,000 a year for professional development opportunities such as leadership coaching, attending academic courses, or visiting other Echoing Green Fellows’ organizations

Echoing Green manages three distinct Fellowship Programs. In Phase 1 of the application all applicants will automatically be considered for the Global Fellowship and may opt-in to be considered for the Black Male Achievement and/or Climate Fellowship.

There are often some misconceptions about what types of organizations are eligible for the Echoing Green Fellowship. Here is some clarification about organizations that are eligible:

An organization can be either a non-profit, a for-profit, or hybrid.
An organization does not only have to be run by one individual. Partnerships can apply for a Fellowship
Organizations still in the idea phase are eligible

There are some programs we will not fund. The following types of organizations are not eligible to apply:

Students, scholarships, or research projects
Lobbying or faith-based organizations
Existing organizations which have grown past their start-up phase

2014 Echoing Green Climate Fellowship

Echoing Green’s new Climate Fellowship, built in partnership with The ZOOM Foundation, is specifically targeted for next-generation social entrepreneurs committed to working on innovations in mitigation and adaptation to climate change.

The threat of global climate change is one of the greatest humanitarian and economic challenges of our time. Echoing Green expects powerful social returns from investment in promising leaders who recognize the future impact that climate change will have on their health, communities, and economic outlook. Our interest is in considering the full spectrum of responses to the climate crisis – from innovative technology in Silicon Valley to community organizing in the developing world.

The 2014 Climate Fellowship will be awarded to individuals or partners representing up to ten organizations who will receive:

A stipend of $80,000 for individuals (or $90,000 for two-person partnerships) paid in four equal installments over two years
A health insurance stipend
A yearly professional development stipend
Leadership development and networking gatherings
Access to technical support and pro bono partnerships to help grow their organization and a dedicated Echoing Green portfolio manager

A community of like-minded social entrepreneurs and public service leaders, including the Echoing Green network of nearly 600 Fellows at Large working all over the world.

To be considered for the Climate Fellowship:

The applicant must be starting a new organization that focuses on innovations in mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
The applicant must be able to clearly articulate why confronting the climate crisis is one of their closest personal values.
