The European Youth Press’ Orange Magazine is looking for young multimedia journalists, radio journalists, photographers and video-makers (aged between 18 and 30) from all over the world to cover this year’s Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum to be held in Bonn, Germany from 13th to 15th June 2016.

Under its mandate, the Orange Magazine provides an avenue for young journalists and young change makers to collaborate and work together by producing youth-inspired pieces for print and online editions during the coverage of international media events.

The annual Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum provides an excellent avenue for young journalists to sharpen their skills while learning from peers and experts in the field.

Successful applicants will undergo editorial training before and during the event to produce multimedia pieces related to this year’s forum topic: Media. Freedom. Values. The stories produced at the event will be submitted with Orange Magazine and the participant’s home media.

Orange Magazine is a project of European Youth Press (EYP), an organisation that provides opportunities for young journalists to collaborate and produce stories on issues that has an impact on the youth and media.

Deutsche Welle is Germany’s international broadcaster and host of the DW Global Media Forum. A congress with international reach that draws both media representatives and professionals from all over the world, working in the fields of politics, culture, business, development and science. This year’s DW Global Media Forum in Bonn will focus on “Media. Freedom. Values.

Benefits:

OPENINGS:

The Orange Magazine team is seeking applicants for below positions:

2 PHOTOGRAPHERS

Responsibilities: The photographer will take pictures during the event, which will be published in the print edition of the Orange Magazine, on the Orange Magazine website, Facebook/Twitter and social media pages, and newsletters. The photographer is expected to bring his own equipment and edit his or her own pictures on Photoshop/Aperture to ensure quality publishing.

Eligibility: You will have to provide your own camera equipment and demonstrate previous experience in photography (via an online portfolio).

2 VIDEO JOURNALISTS

Responsibilities: The video team will create a series of 3-5 two-minute videos, which will include among others: forum highlights, interviews with speakers, and longer themed features.

Eligibility: Experience in video production, shooting, editing and camera shooting. You will have to provide your own camera equipment, including tripod.

Application: Please send a CV, three video work samples (those related to the forum topic is a plus), and your story pitch (approximately 300 words) for a feature story related to the forum that you would like to make during or before the event in a media format relevant to your application. In your story pitch try to answer the following questions:

1. a) What is your story topic or idea?
2. b) How is it related to the conference topic?
3. c) How are you going to research the topic and what information will be valuable to Orange Magazine’s youth audience?
4. d) Who will you interview for the story?

2 RADIO JOURNALISTS

Responsibilities: The radio team will create a series of 3-5 minute podcasts and radio news or features, which will include: forum overviews during plenaries, interviews with key speakers, and longer themed features, or a combination of any of the mentioned.

Eligibility: Experience in radio production (including recording, script planning, editing/scoring, final packaging and upload of radio reports). You will have to provide your own digital audio recording equipment, including a digital mic.

In your story pitch try to answer the following questions:

1. a) What is your story topic or idea?

3. c) How are you going to research the topic and what information will be valuable to Orange Magazine’s youth audience?
4. d) Who will you interview for the story?

1 SOCIAL MEDIA JOURNALIST

Responsibilities: The social media journalist will handle the updates for the team during the three-day forum. He or she will work closely with the rest of the team to provide updates and snapshots of key activities at the plenary and breakout sessions to update the Orange Magazine social networking sites: LinkedIn, Instagram, Infogram, Pinterest, SoundCloud, Facebook and Twitter.

Eligibility: Social media experience required, having blog or twitter accounts are an asset.

5 PRINT/WEB JOURNALISTS

Responsibilities: All print and web journalists will help in producing text stories for the Orange Magazine print edition to be distributed during the forum. Each will submit at least one pre-event story on their country in relation to the forum theme: “Media. Freedom. Values.” At the event, they will be assigned stories and topics for coverage, while working with the rest of the team.

All materials will be produced in English so participants must have a good working proficiency in the language. As an international team, successful applicants must be able to enjoy working with people from different cultural backgrounds. Social media and multimedia skill sets are an advantage.
