DAAD Study Scholarships 2019/2020 – Postgraduate Studies in the Field of Music

DAAD scholarships offer graduates the opportunity to continue their education in Germany with a postgraduate or continuing course of study. The scholarships also promote the exchange of experience and networking amongst colleagues.

Requirements:

Foreign applicants who have gained a first university degree in the field of Music at the latest by the time they commence their scholarship-supported study programme; if this is not possible, they should have at least exhausted all the training options available for their instrument in their country of origin.

In this study programme, you can complete

  • a Master’s degree/postgraduate degree leading to a final qualification, or
  • a complementary course that does not lead to a final qualification (not an undergraduate course) at a state German college of music of your choice.
  • Postgraduate studies are possible in the so-called 2nd cycle (usually a four-semester Master’s degree) or a 3rd cycle which usually takes place in two semesters (concert examination, masterclass or PhD in an artistic subject).
  • This programme only funds projects in the artistic field. Other DAAD scholarship programmes are available for applicants from the field of musicology or music education or musicians with a scientific project.

Duration of the funding

Master’s degree programme:

  • Between 10 and 24 months depending on the length of the chosen study programme or study project
  • Start: usually from 1st October, or earlier if a language course is taken prior to the study programme
  • The scholarships are awarded for the duration of the standard period of study for the chosen study programme (up to a maximum of 24 months). To receive further funding after the first year of study for 2-year courses, proof of academic achievements thus far should indicate that the study programme can be successfully completed within the standard period of study. Therefore, a reference of the main subject teacher will be required.
  • Applicants who are already in Germany in the first year of a postgraduate course at the time of application may apply for funding for their second year of study.
  • An extension of the scholarship is possible if changing to a new stage in studies is intended (usually from a Master’s degree to an advanced programme of study such as a concert exam or master class). For particularly qualified candidates, it is possible to apply for an extension for a concert exam for up to two years.

Complementary studies not leading to a final qualification:

  • One academic year. In individual cases, the scholarship can be extended on request
  • Start: usually on 1st October, or earlier if a language course is taken prior to the study programme

Value

  • A monthly payment of 850 euros
  • Travel allowance
  • One-off study allowance
  • Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover

Under certain circumstances, scholarship holders may receive the following additional benefits:

  • Monthly rent subsidy
  • Monthly allowance for accompanying members of family

To enable scholarship holders to learn German in preparation for their stay in the country, DAAD offers the following services:

  • Payment of course fees for the online language course “Deutsch-Uni Online (DUO)” (www.deutsch-uni.com) for six months after receipt of the Scholarship Award Letter
  • if necessary: Language course (2, 4 or 6 months) before the start of the study visit; the DAAD decides whether to fund participation and for how long depending on German language skills and project. Participation in a language course is compulsory if the language of instruction or working language at the German host institution is German.
  • Allowance for a personally chosen German language course during the scholarship period
  • Reimbursement of the fees for the TestDaF test which has either been taken in the home country after receipt of the Scholarship Award Letter or in Germany before the end of the funding period
  • As an alternative to the TestDaF for scholarship holders who have taken a language course beforehand: the fee for a DSH examination taken during the scholarship period may be reimbursed.

Selection

A special DAAD committee made up of professors from German colleges of music makes the final decision about scholarships in the field of music.

DAAD Scholarships 2017/2018 for Foreign Artists to study in Germany (Funded)

DAAD scholarships offer graduates the opportunity to continue their education in Germany with a postgraduate or continuing course of study. The scholarships also promote the exchange of experience and networking amongst colleagues.

Who can apply?

Foreign applicants who have gained a first university degree in the fields of Fine Art, Design/Visual Communication and Film at the latest by the time they commence their scholarship-supported study programme.

What can be funded?

In this study programme, you can complete

  • a Master’s degree/postgraduate degree leading to a final qualification, or
  • a complementary course that does not lead to a final qualification at a state or state-recognised German university of your choice (not an undergraduate course).

This programme only funds projects in the artistic field. Other DAAD scholarship programmes are available for applicants from the field of History of Art or Art Studies or for artists with a scientific project.

Duration of the funding

  • Monthly rent subsidy

The decision is based upon written applications and work samples which have to be submitted (see: www.daad.de/extrainfo).

Applications need to be submitted online.

In addition,special leaflets for the fields of Fine Art, Design and Film, for Music and for Drama, Direction, Dance and Choreography provide information on aspects such as the work samples (portfolio) which applicants need to submit.

The DAAD will not consider incomplete applications!

DAAD Scholarships for the Master of Research and Public Policy 2017/18 for Africans.

The Partnership for African Social and Governance Research (PASGR) is an independent, non-partisan pan-African not-for-profit organisation working to enhance research excellence in governance and public policy that contributes to the overall wellbeing of women and men.

In its Higher Education Programme, PASGR works with twelve universities across seven African countries to implement a collaborative Master of Research and Public Policy (MRPP) programme. Seven of the twelve universities are located in East Africa:

University of Nairobi; Maseno University; Egerton University; Uganda Christian University; Uganda Martyrs University; University of Dar es Salaam; and Mzumbe University.

Scholarship awardees will be hosted at any one of these institutions.

PASGR invites applications from eligible candidates for the DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarships for the MRPP. The scholarships include tuition fees to the university according to the submitted fees structure, a monthly stipend to cover living costs and accommodation (at DAAD rates), as well as an annual study and research allowance.

Eligibility:

  • Eligible candidates must be citizens of a country in sub-Saharan Africa, admitted to study the Master of Research and Public Policy (MRPP) programme at any of the universities listed above.
  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s and / or Master’s degree qualification with at least a second class honours upper division from any accredited university.
  • The last university degree must have been completed less than six years ago at the time of application.

Note: Potential candidates who are not enrolled in the programme are advised to contact any of the universities listed above directly for admission first. Prospective students may request admission at a university within or outside their home country.

Duration and commencement:

  • Scholarships are available for up to a maximum of two years.
  • The scholarship will be initially granted for one year and may be extended upon individual request and receipt of a complete application using this form.

  7. Academic reference from senior lecturer and proof of employment if applicable (scanned PDF copy).

Study Visits Grants to Germany for Groups of Foreign University Students 2014.

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) funds Study Visits / Study Seminars and Practicals in Germany by groups of foreign students headed by a university teacher.

DAAD offers financial support for subject-related academic information visits to Germany organized by faculty members for groups of students. Group Study Visit grants are intended to encourage contact with academic institutions, groups and individuals in Germany, and offer insight into current issues in the academic, scientific, economic, political and cultural realms

The objectives of a study trip are:

  • to establish and maintain contacts between German and foreign universities
  • to provide participants with a subject-specific knowledge by organising visits to at least two universities, subject-related tours and informative meetings
  • to promote meetings with German students and academics and scientists
  • to offer participants an insight into economic,political and cultural life in Germany

Who can apply?

  • University teachers from a foreign university are eligible to apply.

Requirements:

  • Students must be registered at a foreign university and have completed at least one semester.

Language skills

  • Students in a group should have the same level of proficiency in the chosen programme language (usually English or German)

What is supported?

  • Study trips for groups of a maximum of 15 students accompanied by one university teacher.
  • Individual doctoral candidates may also be funded after consultation with the DAAD.
  • The groups visit at least two German universities where they participate in the academic programme.
  • A cultural programme is organised in the evenings and at weekends.

Duration of funding

  • At least 7 days and a maximum of 12 days

Value

  • A flat rate allowance of 50 euros per person per day is paid as a contribution towards travel and accommodation expenses. This applies to the following countries: Groups from the EU states, Albania, Australia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Hong Kong, Iceland, Japan, Canada, Croatia, Liechtenstein, New Zealand, Norway, the Russian Federation, Switzerland, Serbia, South Korea, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine and USA.
  • For groups from the “remaining countries”, the DAAD pays for travel within Germany directly, participants only receive a meals allowance of 18 euros per day.

Selection

  • Students or groups of students cannot apply directly to the DAAD; the university submitting an application is responsible for selecting participants.
